Starocci wins GMU Open

Starocci could to be the Cenzo of this next group. Not quite as flashy and not as much incoming hype, but an absolute hammer.

Wasn’t Starocci the higher rated HS recruit? I always felt surprised at the lack of hype with Joseph, before college and even after he started winning national titles.

Freddie Stoker was the target. Cael was in Iowa for the 4th of July eating corn with the Stoker family. Then Cenzo laid a whopping on Freddy at Fargo and Cael started the whisper campaign. You know the one. "Cenzo, you were always the one. Come to University Park and we"ll shock the world in New York. Cenzo, you know you were the one."

A certain former Flo employee was big on Starocci. I think he was right.

Watching him at states a couple of years ago, I thought he was still kind of raw, but with a wealth of potential. Great to see him off to this kind of start.

I remember that in Joseph's true FR year he wrestled very little in Open tournaments, and some PSU fans were concerned that he might not end up wrestling for us. That turned out to be a blessedly wrong deduction!

Plus he missed weight a couple of times and people thought he was done in the program. Lol.

His true freshman year was catnip for the color-me-concerned crowd here on BWI and the sure-am-glad-we-got-Kemerer-instead-of-that-bum crowd on HR

Cenzo was top 5 overall in his class, Starocci in the 15 range in his. Though IMO Starocci was vastly underrated in that ranking -- as if Fargo double champs and Cadet + Junior world team members grow on trees.

And for the Cruiseliner crowd.

Cenzo's RS FR year, though ... unforgettable.

Bwi gets a pass on the Joseph scuttlebutt because it was Ames2State who ignited it. At least I think it was Ames2State.... sorry if wrong, but the search function on this board is busted.

You wanna talk bad takes though? There were a lot of awful talent evaluators who said a Joseph departure wouldn't matter because of Mason Manville.

I Loved Kemerer as much a Joseph, At the time of the recruiting process I would have said a toss up on who would develop into the better wrester. I was just excited to have those 2 wrestle each other for 4 straight years...Boy it did not turn out that way, joseph went up (thank god Nolf could maintain 157) and now Kemerer "Purposefully" avoids Joseph by going to 174;)

lol I am joking HR

In reality I love watching them both wrestle and am very happy Kemerer looks like his old self. I will root for that PA kid every time he is not wrestling Hall this year.

I always thought Kemerer was a fine wrestler but never able to make the final step. He was a life-long 2nd placer, IMO. I've been watching Cenzo since he was a freshman in HS. He placed at 7th at 106 (Kemerer placed 2nd -naturally- at the same weight) but I loved Cenzo's drive and intensity. I thought he had a great future, just not as great as it became. As he got bigger, he got better. Always fun to watch. And Kemerer kept coming in 2nd.

I love Kemerer too, and want nothing but second best for him in 2020.

The biggest difference between the two of these guys in my opinion is that Starocci loves to inflict pain! Always has, always will. He really enjoys making guys uncomfortable and I don't believe at this point he is as smooth as Cenzo was his freshman year.

Got your $OSU. Nice seeing the score and the bottom scroll line of Moore versus Cassar. Won't post any Iowa pictures out of respect for what BS is going thru and I recommend going to his gofundme page and donating what you can

I remember Zain being interviewed after he pinned Sorenson in NCAA semis his Jr year. Zain talked softly and very non-aggressive-like and explained his ability to pin Sorenson by: "Well, you know it hurts a lot! (What he did to Sorenson)". It was like he had to explain why someone as tough as Sorenson could give in to getting pinned.
