Steelers may limp into the playoffs, but they are soooo bad.

BBrown, no need to include your lack of NFL coaching experience in this post sir.

Derek Carr even said the timeout changed their plan. They had every intention of ending it in a tie.

Staley made a lot of questionable decisions.
He also said that they were going to play to win the game. More context from his statement would be interesting.

Agreed---I think the clip of Sieg talking to Ekeler sure makes it look like he said they were content ending in a tie as well but obviously we'll never really know.

Been saying that a long time. Guy is a jerk an prima dona. Undercut the coaching staff. Hope Tomlin takes control but don’t have a lot of hope.
Steelers have a very good chance of getting one of the free agent QBs if they can clear the cap space. Steelers have a good young OL, good WRs and a great defense. If you are looking to win as well as make some dough, not a better place to land if you are escaping Seattle, MN, Houston, LV or San Fran.

True on the QB but OL is not good. Need to spend 2 picks on OL this draft, preferably 1st round unless they get a free agent stud.
Defense is so so. Near bottom of league in run defense. Watt and Hayward make up for poor interior defense at all 3 levels (NT, ILB, SS), one of first 2 picks should be in one of those spots as well

part of the defense's problem was having to rely on Mondeaux and Tuszka, getting Tuitt back would make a big difference

also need an inside linebacker, Bush hasn't been the same since his injury and having to put Spillane out there on passing downs is asking for trouble

Missed both Tuitt and Aloua. Getting both back would help a lot but there is serious concerns about Tuitt. And Bush was really bad. Either he isn’t fully healed or his career is done.

Heyward had a great year but is aging, the Loudermilk kid was a solid player for them, even with giving up the 4th for him. If Alualu and Tuitt can come back that would be an improved DL rotation. Roche and Johnson were useless picks at LB this year and Bush is not what he was pre injury so the LB core is weak on the inside. Haden leaves and they will need another CB and definitely some SS help.

Offensive Line? Not so sure about that…agree w/balance…

Very good coach.

You'll have to make the case that he "needs to go".

Since he won a SB over a decade ago they have 3 playoff wins. Those wins are against Matt Moore, AJ McCarron and Alex Smith. They consistently underachieve and look unprepared. I can't even count the losses to teams that were under 500

After last night's loss in which the offense had 27 plays for 46 yards with 7 punts giving the Chiefs 8 possessions in the first half and foolish electing to receive the opening the kickoff he made the idiotic comment that "Game plans are irrelevant. We didn’t execute well enough.”

The standard isn't meaning an average team. The objective is to win titles or at the very least contend. Their last playoff win was 2016--how much coaches would survive that?

We can keep going but that should be enough...

You are a lot more positive on them than I am.
I don't think the OL is that good, young yes but still not sure how "good" they are.
WR is ok. Claypool is good when he isn't actining like a fool on the field. Johnson has the drops. Pat F. is very good though.
I think their defense is way overrated and if it wouldn't be for TJ and Cam would look pretty bad.

How good is that OL? Green got benched.
The WRs aren't that good. JuJu's gone. Diontae can't catch a cold. Claypool might be fine with another QB but was largely disappointing.
On offense the only 2 players I truly feel like they can build around are Najee and Freiermuth.
The Defense has great players (Cam, TJ, Minkah) and some nice complimentary players (Highsmith and Sutton) but has a huge issue at ILB unless Bush gets back to the level he was at prior to the injury. Is Witherspoon a long term answer at CB? Do Tuitt and Alualu return? Who is the SS as Edmunds thankfully should be gone.

Wilson, Cousins, Carr and Watson aren't free agents so we'd have to give up a ton to get 2 of them and Carr has made it clear he'd retire if traded. Probably a bluff but we aren't better offensively than the Raiders. Jimmy G? Maybe an option. Mariota's probably the most realistic unless you meant him when talking about Vegas.

Agree on your comment about OL and QB. Why spend money and a good draft pick on a QB if you don't have anyone to block for him? They should focus on OL for a year and maybe two before going for a big time QB in the draft or free agency. DL picks would also be useful. Watt can't do it all by himself.

IMO the stillerz should sign a FA C and draft an OT in the 1st round. C are a little cheaper than guys like Cam Robinson at OT so you save a bit for Watt and Fitzpatrick. If Alualu/Tuitt are both back they can go for another OL or maybe a SS or ILB who can actually tackle and cover.

I’d like to close out this thread by saying…

… and they limped right out of the playoffs, too

And a playoff loss to Tim Tebow!

You better call the Steelers oh-wise-one!
