Suriano update

Ashnault finished 8th, 4th and 6th the three previous years ... scored just 9 points last year and everyone who beat him is back this year.

AM was a big loss for Rutgers, but I don't think he would be enough to put them top-10.

Isn't picking on Rutgers like kicking a helpless dog? I don't understand the fascination with this topic other than the Suriano angle and even that is getting old.

I've actually defended Rutgers a few times over the years over on themat. The university made a commitment to wrestling and put resources into the program, something that should be viewed as a positive by any college wrestling fan. They were in such a poor state of affairs however, it made them easy targets whenever their fans voiced some optimism. I was pulling for them to get better and make a good example for other schools that might consider making wrestling more a priority.

That being said, the Suriano affair and then the thuggish behavior in the dual has made it a lot harder to support them. I still view the school's commitment to wrestling as a big positive for college wrestling, but the way the head coach has conducted himself over the past year hasn't done the program any favors.

With ashnault they would be too 10 though right
Is a suriano win alone enough to put them top 10?
I know this is an imperfect measure but it's what we have: last year Rutgers finishes 11th if you give them Suriano and say he earns 22 points. And that's still 100 points behind PSU. As is they finished 19th.

Focus on the right thing...as a fan of PSU wrestling, thankful and grateful, it's about one team...

Came to the party a little late, what’s the reason for Suriano absence?

It's unclear whether it was caused by a combination of a dirty RU mat and good old fashioned New Jersey teammate slaps that were hard enough to break the skin, or whether NS has some other personal hygiene issues. But fortunately they were able to drain the puss and get him healed up in time to beat NaTo this weekend. Wait, you did say "abscess" right? ;)

In the event your post was sincere, I don't believe there has been or will be a reasonable official RU explanation for Suriano's absence over the past few weeks. And FWIW, if his first match today is any indication, he looked strong enough to win the whole tournament.

Interesting that Suriano will be heading into NCAAs technically undefeated and clearly has more quality wins, and better RPI than Cruz, we'll have to wait and see about the final coaches rankings. I hope Cruz receives the 1 seed at NCAAs, but what are the odds Suriano gets it despite his mf. at B1Gs?

The NCAA is not supposed to look at past performance but they do, naturally, when there is an oddity to cause it. My opinion: If there is an undefeated returning champion from the same weight class...he has earned a #1 seed no matter what the RPI or rankings say. It’s not like any wrestler can control their schedule. (Except an EXHIBITION which should have zero value. Not even a hint of value). Cruz and Hall should be #1 seeds. It is clear.

And he who should not be named, screws us yet again!
Not really, this situation could be good for PSU at nationals. NaTo winning big 10's probably bumps him up to the 2 seed. Suriano likely gets the 3 seed and Spencer gets the 4. Now NaTo has to go through both. If Lee beat NaTo yesterday he prob is the 4 and sees Cruz in the semis. If it were me I would rether that than Suriano or Lee in the semis. Of course I can be extremely wrong as well.
