OSU is planning to don the team in a black type of jersey for the PSU game.

I suspect that OSU is going to go for a "Black Out" for the game.

Thoughts?

It should actually look cool..

I just hope we compete with them this year, playing there is usually a nightmare and I am worried we get trounced.

I haven't heard anything about that. First, it's weird since black isn't even one of OSU's colors. It would be like PSU having a "Red Out". Second, a black out at a night game makes the crowd less visible which is the opposite of what it's supposed to accomplish. But hey, whatever makes them feel good.

I didn't think Penn State was their rival... why would you wear a special uniform or coordinate a "blackout" for someone who isn't significant enough to be a rival?

Smart move on many levels... Take advantage of Nationally Televised game...mega recruits attending...additional revenue from unique limited addition black jersey licensed apparel...ISU swag far...Art of War... You have an up and coming competitor in your conference gaining some steam or momentum... What do you do ? Try and wipe them out on many levels... This may be their " statement" game... And believe it comes around in a key time for when BCS rankings come out...

My Hope... We keep it competitive... My fear we get blown out... My fantasy we win which all considering could be one of the greatest upsets in PSU history while putting Frankkin at a whole different level and possibly giving UM a little " dink" in his armour...

Tell me about the all black visibility. I was at both Pirate wild card games the past two years, and although the noise and emotion was tremendous, the blackout look made it seem as if no one was at the game at times.

Maybe they think it will look like a black-hole? You know, kind of like when their fans open their mouths? All intellect gets sucked in and only moronic drivel spews forth?

We have white out's all the time against teams that are not our rivals.
And there are a lot of teams doing the black jersey thing this year.

They are doing this for reasons that have nothing to do with winning this year's game. They are going to win easily. However, they are going to bring in a lot of recruits, no doubt, and impress them with the atmosphere and the score, in order to contrast OSU to us, because Meyer is smart enough to rack up as many favorable recruiting experiences as he can, at our expense. He gets that he needs to beat us in many ways, besides merely on the field, since our talent level is ramping up. He wants these recruits to see us at our worst, and them at their best. Interestingly, I wonder at times if Meyer fears us moving forward more than he fears Michigan.

Meyer's a damned smart guy, no doubt.

OSU can get away with a black jersey a lot easier with gray already in their scheme than teams like UNC or FSU. It will probably be a pretty solid look under the lights aiming to impress....and I'm still anticipating Franklin will do something for one of PSU's games in the form of an alternate look. Taking the names off was a great way to move to tradition but he also fully realizes the value an alternate uniform has when it comes to recruiting. Old school fans may not love it but the younger crowds almost expect it.

Penn State should wear all pink uni's that night, therefore both teams combined will be honoring Penn State tradition.

I see your black, and I raise you Pink.

We (Are) win.

I have to give them credit for being flexible and looking pretty damn cool in the process. Change the color of the Penn State uniform shoe laces, and see how this board will blow up.

Looks like the article about this on elevenwarriors.com is very speculative based on a couple of tweets from a former OSU lineman and some reporter in Virginia. The reporter's claim that Georigia and Oklahoma would be wearing alternate black jerseys has already been refuted. Regardless, I'm sure that will be a huge recruiting weekend for OSU, so I wouldn't be surprised to see Meyer pull out all the stops. I also wouldn't so easily dismiss Penn State's chances. I don't want to get into a debate about the poor officiating in last year's game, and I would argue that OSU made great strides from that game to the end of the season last year, but if PSU's defense can keep the lid on Elliott and the OSU offense, it could be a close game.

HMM....

Blackshirts: Traditionally formal wear of fascists, or some other type of nasties

White Hats: Traditionally worn by the good guys and/or THE BOSSES.

Carry on, tOSU.

This is just Meyer trying to pump up his team for an obvious trap game. OSU will be coming off a brutal matchup against Maryland and he doesn't want his team looking ahead to the Rutgers game the following week. ;)

Rutgers shamed them into being more diverse? They fear the tanned, oriental, Hebrew, transgender Knighty mascot the following week!

Rival not rival doesn't matter. I think penn state and ohio state both know that for an extended time period.....its the game or will be the main game for the conference going forward. Both will have special things for it.

Wearing "stealth" black will help them "sneak up" better while holding, tripping and gouging. Not like any of that would be called anyway :)

Black? Like Urban Meyer's soul?

The good guys wear white anyway. ;)

Hell, we'll be lucky in that game if we get big ten refs who can actually tell when a clock hits 0.

Black pants, too?
I'd imagine so, since that would help to mask the sh!t stains they get early in the game.

The only time I saw "Good Guys Wear Black" was when Chuck did it.

I suspect the Conference will reduce the lighting for this game to make the black jerseys even more hard to detect. this will become even more apparent if they employ a fluorescent football for this game.

They won't want to try the "not getting all the feeds to the replay booth" again. That would be too obvious.

If it does happen it's a Nike thing. As mentioned above it looks like 8 different programs will use the same black trunk with school colors on the sleeves design.

I don't want to get banned again for a minor antagonistic comment, so I'll just say in very general terms that any fan base (not necessarily PSU) that gets that concerned about a team's jersey color, could look like The other team has gotten in their heads.

I'm not definitely saying that it is what has happened to you, nor would imply anything negative about any player, coach, or fan of PSU. As a matter of consideration, it is very likely that Penn State will win by 90-100 points.

Is that better Mr. Moderator?

The worse thing that can ever happen in a football game is mud! Then everyone looks the same. I started LB three seasons in HS and even under normal circumstances as a senior, it was still confusing as hell trying to figure things out among 18/19 (assuming three behind me) players plus officials.

I really hate this idea of black for black sake. BFBS. So many teams have worn and will wear black. It is so boring and so overdone. I prefer actual throwbacks. Not faux throwbacks that Ohio State has worn. Although the 1942 replicas for that national championship team were very close to what the 42 team wore.

If anything why not wear gray? Gray is becoming the new hot thing. But Ohio State plans to wear black instead? Goofy. The scary part is this. October is the breast cancer awareness month which gives teams an excuse to wear pink. Somebody better tell Ohio State not to dare wear pink accessories with the black vs Penn State. We all know Penn States original colors were pink and black. Dont be surprised to see a dumber move and black and pink for Ohio State. I hope not.

That would be pretty funny if they had the pink and black. ;). I'm not a big fan of adding colors that aren't school colors to the uniforms. I hate it when Oregon does the silver/ white, and black unis or when NC St or Rutgers etc wear black. Obviously as a Penn St fan I wouldn't want the uniforms changed at all (hell- we get all worked up over whether there is white trim on the sleeves/ neck of the jersey or not. ;). ). I think if Ohio State used more gray it would be better than the black but at the same time I'm not big on altering the tradition uniforms to begin with.

I love the history and tradition of all schools. I have studied Ohio States uniform history and think I know more about it than most everybody. I also know about other teams uni history.

Penn State actually wore red jerseys 2 games in the 1920s since the opponents regular jerseys were too similar to the Lions. Penn State also wore silver helmets in the late 30s for at least a season. So if PSU wore red jerseys and silver helmets again for the Ohio State game I would forgive the black and probable pink on Ohio State.

But we know PSU will not bring out the 1920s red jerseys and 1930s silver helmets.

The black is just so overdone. Texas A&M the other day released its Halloween black unis. BORING. About 109 schools have already worn black. Gray would be so much better for Ohio State.

I, for one, certainly don't doubt your pedigree relative to uniform history. You have proved that over your own posting history. There are few who can hold a candle to you.

Oh, that is not a shot at your football knowledge beyond uniforms, just in case you have assumed that.

Well thank you PSU- Knocker. As I said I love all schools history and tradition. I read about Penn State using red jerseys in Lou Pratos PSU encyclopedia. But i have gone through most of the old PSU yearbook online. The La Vie I think it is called.

Sadly being able to tell what teams apart from the old pictures and uniforms just got extra hard with this silly trend of multiple uniforms and helmets for every game. Future buffs will look back and say what the heck happened in the 2010 or so era. Who was who? While I am not crazy about the beauty or lack of for PSUs unis I give them credit for sticking with what they are.

My favorite era for college uniforms was the late 20s to late 30s. Some very flashy uniforms were worn in that era. Like Satin pants and stripes on front before numbers on front became mandatory in the 30s. The 1950s was the most boring for all. Actually it was the era of the Penn State look alike unis. Most all team had plain helmets with single stripes. No TV numbers on shoulders.

I have found only one instance when Ohio State pulled a Penn State look. Vs Wisconsin in 1951 or 52. Ohio State wore white helmets, white jerseys and white pants. The helmets had a red stripe. That was the only time Ohio State has worn white for helmet jersey and pants.
