Tennessee wants Coach Franklin

Yep. I hike, fish, kayak, ride dual sports, pontoon on the Little Tennessee, develop retirement communties and resorts here, but that is where it ends. I would manufacture nothing here, because the people are lazy (not 100%), cant multiply or divide fractions (for the most part) and talk football as if three year old's (again for the most part). East Tn, Mid Tn and West Tn are very different. There are great microbrews here and we love many of the locals here... but the damage from decades of lead intake from shine is evident in a large portion of the population, In East TN, many residents don't even have septic tanks. Knoxville is a nice city but the gentry are often complete ignorant asses..... So, yes.... we live here....in the Nobs between Knoxville and Chattanooga (in the second most diverse ecosystem in the world and in one of the most backward and corrupt states in the nation)..... we live amidst 2000+ acres of forest with mountain views in Virginia, NC, Tn, Ga..... on a quiet estate... watching the culture around us in a state of bemused disbelief..... almost as the same as when I read your posts.

So, is it your vibrator or you that has infinite technical difficulties which results in you being such a crank?
Thanks for the elaborative info, but you completely omitted any information pertaining to some bar/restaurant that you previously claimed to own or work at.

Why the apparent omission? Are you "tending bar" again tonight?

Gruden's wife and Smokey were pretty close. So there's that...

Jeff Brohm, Bobby Petrino, Mike Leach, Mike Gundy, and Kelly are the names mentioned most often. Would think Greg Schiano could exit OSU after this season.

If he goes, next man up. JoMo would be nice.
I believe JoMo would be next up, but while I appreciate his ability to coach offense, I'm thinking we'd take a big hit with recruiting (something JF is one of the very best at). That said, he's not going to Tennessee...not saying he'll stay forever, but whatever he does next will be a step up (something the Tennessee job is not right now).

Just curious, what would you consider to be a step up from the PSU job?

Those are all interesting names and I think Petrino would be happy to bolt Louisville considering what could happen moving forward with their athletic program. Actually, he and Tennessee would make a perfect fit.

Petrino definetly will want out. The AD on leave currently at Louisville in that mess was Petrino's main supporter. As we have heard Petrino is not easy to get along with and very demanding. He ruffles a lot of feathers of the people around him. (Sounds like the coach at Michie) With his main support and protection gone at Louisville and what could happen to athletics as a whole there rumors are rampant Petrino will bolt at the end of the season. Chip Kelly would also be an interesting choice at Tennessee. Chip against all those coaches in the SEC would be interesting. An outside shot I do give to Les Miles as well.

Of course I'm biased and believe that PSU is one of a handful of "crown jewel" positions in cfb. That said, one never knows if/when a coach would want to challenge his abilities at the next level. It doesn't seem as if JF wants to go back to the NFL, but egos being what they are at his level, it wouldn't shock me if he flirted with the the idea if the right opportunity came along.

Currently, I don't see anywhere else in the college landscape as a step-up from PSU, at least not enough to warrant a jump. The NFL certainly, if that's his thing, but not all those teams. Franklin's strengths are recruiting and surrounding himself with a great staff. Not sure I see the fit as an NFL head coach yet.

Yea, they're down to Franklin, Saban and Urban. having a hard time deciding which of the 3. They figure Franklin will come with a smaller price tag.
But the higher price tag assures a winner.

I lived in Chattanooga from 03-07 when I went to college after getting out of the Coast Guard. Chattanooga is a great city and every time I go back to visit I’m impressed with the redevelopment of the city. I’d love to move back.

When PSU's on all cylinders, and we're getting close, there is no "step up." Not in the college ranks.

CJf will be mentioned in connection with a lot of jobs in the future. He has done well at Vandy and now PSU and is an attractive coaching candidate

I strongly disagree. He's from Pennsylvania and he's one of the highest paid coaches in college football. After taking into account salaries paid at other schools, which possible remaining programs would be considered? Tennessee makes most sense and that would be a step down right now.

As a comparison, how many schools would you link Urban Meyer to besides OSU? None.

Not sure there is a true "step up" position for Franklin in CFB. Outside of personal preference everything is essentially a lateral move. He's from PA so it's not like there is some draw for him to go to some other region.

Agree. Have been there to watch the Southern Scuffle wrestling tournament, which of course Penn State wins regularly!

It's a naturally scenic area with the river and nearby mountains, and they've done a great job with the Chattanooga downtown. Good place to visit, and looks like a nice area to live.

Franklin's next stop at this point would be the NFL. He is not leaving Penn State for Tennessee. That would be a stupid move.

Alabama, Notre Dame, USC, or Texas. people might consider those to be a step up, but it's not really a big step unless you have a personal connection to one of the schools, which he does not. Pretty much any other college job would probably be seen as lateral or going backwards. With a top 5 ranking and a top 3 recruiting class on the way, going to Tennessee at this point would be a definite step backwards although no Tennessee fan would admit it.

Coward mentioned Kelly, Frost, Franklin, and Fuentes as a wish list. He said they should offer Franklin $8m. No way that happens and no way Franklin even sniffs going to UT. Why? They are and will always be SEC middle of the pack. Franklin is a lifer at PSU. He has a juggernaut if he stays with it and he knows it.

Notre Dame would be a step down from Ohio State.
Urban seems to possibly be one of those that's great at building/reviving a program, but maybe not at maintaining it. And like with some recruits, Notre Dame still has some mystique with coaches.

Coward is an idiot i see maybe C Kelly and a retread - TN is far from a premier job at this point.

Yep he is. It would be ironic if Kelly tried to clean up for Jones! Would love seeing his face turn orange.....

For what it is worth, the Vegas sports book has Chip Kelly as the highest probability. Franklin is not even in the top 15 on the list. I believe these odds more than Coward, real money is on the table.

What's wrong with being a bartender you clean pools? :)

Fuentes? What has he done so far to warrant being coveted? At the moment, he is carrying on the great VA Tech tradition of never winning a game that matters.
