That is so awesome!
Bearclaw also had the closest match with MM last year until the Carr match in the finals, and MM just tech'd the #2 ranked guy, so it's really not out of the question and might actually be the most likely outcome at 165 this year.Would be great to see him vs. MM in the NCAA finals. Good for him for making the move to UVU and finishing in style!
Long way to go, but if 165 goes chalk thru conference tourneys, NCAA seeds might be 1 Mesenbrink, 2 Bearclaw, 3 Ramirez (Cornell), 4 Caliendo, 5 Hall.Bearclaw also had the closest match with MM last year until the Carr match in the finals, and MM just tech'd the #2 ranked guy, so it's really not out of the question and might actually be the most likely outcome at 165 this year.
Haha! The seeding math is a chore. If Caliendo wins against Minto, Sparks, Mayfield and Amine that will most likely give his RPI a boost over Barraclough. It's tight right now, Barraclough .7178 and Caliendo .7035.Long way to go, but if 165 goes chalk thru conference tourneys, NCAA seeds might be 1 Mesenbrink, 2 Bearclaw, 3 Ramirez (Cornell), 4 Caliendo, 5 Hall.
Mesenbrink is obvious. Bearclaw and Ramirez would be conference champs. RPI has Bearclaw 1, Caliendo 2, Hall 3. (Using Wrestlesta'a calculator which works well for RPI.)
Caliendo might get the 3 over Ramirez with Quality Wins. I'm too lazy to do that much seeding math, to roll up every category.
Maybe, but then Caliendo also gets another loss vs Mesenbrink.Haha! The seeding math is a chore. If Caliendo wins against Minto, Sparks, Mayfield and Amine that will most likely give his RPI a boost over Barraclough. It's tight right now, Barraclough .7178 and Caliendo .7035.
True, but Barraclough could face Hall again at Big 12's. Or Cam Amine who he beat 5-4 in OT. If Barraclough wins out, no doubt his RPI will be higher.Maybe, but then Caliendo also gets another loss vs Mesenbrink.
He could also face UNI's Thomsen who is his only loss on the yearTrue, but Barraclough could face Hall again at Big 12's. Or Cam Amine who he beat 5-4 in OT. If Barraclough wins out, no doubt his RPI will be higher.
That's 2x PA state finalist Clayton Ulrey from Lower Dauphin.#3 Terrell Barraclough (Utah Valley) vs. Clayton Ulrey (Northern Colorado)
Period 1:
Bearclaw snaps, comes behind & drags Ulrey to the mat for the TD, 3-0. Out of bounds & restart. Ulrey is still down. Bearclaw throws double boots in & gets Ulrey bellied out. Ulrey gets to a quadpod, then Bearclaw breaks him back down & Ulrey is bellied out again. Bearclaw rides out the period. 3-0 Bearclaw, +1:14 RT
Period 2:
Ulrey selects down. He gets to a quadpod, but then Bearclaw sucks him back down & is looking for back points. Ulrey is able to avoid swipes. Bearclaw adjusts, but still can't get any swipes. Ulrey gets back to his base & Bearclaw cuts him, 3-1. Bearclaw presses forward & has Ulrey on the edge. Stall warning on Ulrey. Ulrey shoots, but Bearclaw locks up a cradle. He loses the cradle, but gets a TD, 6-1. Bearclaw rides out the period. 6-1 Bearclaw
Period 3:
Bearclaw takes down. He gets to his feet. Ulrey tries to jack him up, but Bearclaw fights for the escape, 7-1. Bearclaw shoots, but no luck. Bearclaw shoots again, but no luck again. Bearclaw presses forward & Ulrey drops to a leg. Bearclaw keeps working & comes behind for the TD, 10-1. Bearclaw rides out the period & adds a riding time point for the 11-1 major!
Terrell Barraclough MD Clayton Ulrey 11-1
What happened to Ulrey? He was so good in high school. Made a world team and everything. Hasn’t had a good college career at allThat's 2x PA state finalist Clayton Ulrey from Lower Dauphin.
Same weight as Andonian at VT. They gave him a shot one weight up, and he barely broke .500 that year. What happened to Ulrey? He was so good in high school. Made a world team and everything. Hasn’t had a good college career at all
Couple times Davis was in that position I was hoping the hand control happened sooner. Watching and picturing him getting sucked back or getting his head crunched to his knee, but the twisting, determined face moves we do in our chairs while watching have bailed him out every time so farI think it was the season that Berge came back mid-year. TB had been starting, but on bottom he’d get to his feet but never out because he never had hand control. Last night, he was up and out quickly with great hand control. Liked seeing that today from Barr vs last Friday. Finally, that’s one thing that’s always impressed me about Davis: he gets to the sit position and gets hand control.
Nah, conference affiliation doesn't matter. I will cheering for Bearclaw against Messenbrink for sure.I am waiting for one of our Hawk guests to offer up the argument that due to conference brotherhood Nittany Nation is obligated to cheer for Mikey Caliendo over Bearclaw.
I hate to disappoint them again but "let's go Bearclaw!!!!"
Glad to hear it, as well as the acknowledgment Bearclaw will probably beat CaliendoNah, conference affiliation doesn't matter. I will cheering for Bearclaw against Messenbrink for sure.
4 seed Bearclaw over 1 seed Messenbrink on Friday night. 2 seed Caliendo over 3 seed Hall on Friday night. 2 seed Caliendo over 4 seed Bearclaw on Saturday night for the title.lGlad to hear it, as well as the acknowledgment Bearclaw will probably beat Caliendo
Probably not playing out that way4 seed Bearclaw over 1 seed Messenbrink on Friday night. 2 seed Caliendo over 3 seed Hall on Friday night. 2 seed Caliendo over 4 seed Bearclaw on Saturday night for the title.l
You are probably right, Iowa 165lbers usually lose in the quarterfinals.
I like Cali, just don't see him beating the Green New Deal.4 seed Bearclaw over 1 seed Messenbrink on Friday night. 2 seed Caliendo over 3 seed Hall on Friday night. 2 seed Caliendo over 4 seed Bearclaw on Saturday night for the title.l
Young has been replaced at 149 with Teague Travis who started the year as their 157lb starter and was assumed to be out for the seasonLink to Flo Wrestling article below:

Some strange seeds for the Cowboys and rumor has it that Young is out at 149.
Caliendo might not get to face Bearclaw.I like Cali, just don't see him beating the Green New Deal.
Caliendo might not get to face Bearclaw.
Assuming conferences go chalk, then seeds will come down to Coaches' Rank, Quality Wins, RPI, and Common Opponents:
- Rank: currently 2 Caliendo, 3 Bearclaw
Will they switch spots after conferences?
- QW: both have 8 today (based upon coaches' rank). Bearclaw would have the best wins (Hall 2x). But he also has a couple lower-ranked victims at risk of DNQ.
- RPI: currently 1 Caliendo, 3 Bearclaw. I don't think Bearclaw can catch him, but too lazy to calculate that.
- Common Opponents: both beat Amine and Garvin. Bearclaw beat Garvin 2x. Does a 3-0 record give this category to Bearclaw over 2-0 Caliendo? Corby insists this category can't be split ...
If Bearclaw wins any one of those catrgories, then seeds will be:
1 - Mesenbrink
2 - Bearclaw
3 - Ramirez
4 - Caliendo
5 - Hall
If Caliendo splits Common Opponents AND wins all 3 of the other categories above, then we have seeding chaos: Caliendo > Bearclaw > Ramirez > Caliendo. Then the seeds will come down to the full simulated round robin, and who knows.
Bummer. Was looking forward to PSU getting the top 2 seeds at nationals.
Cam regressing to the Amine.
