One of the things I love about wrestling season is all the podcasts about wrestling. There’s nothing like listening to wrestling talk in the morning on way to work and falling asleep to it in my headphones at night.

Shout out to all the people doing these podcasts to give us something to do in between matches, tournies and even the offseason.

In the past I had a negative review of Black Shoe Diaries. I thought they did a much bettter job this year, and wish they had a more regular podcast.

My rankings for this year

1. Inside Trip —love these guys even though it’s tOSU guys. They were my #2 last year
2. FRL—consistency raises them up this year. You know every Tuesday/Thursday you gonna get wrestling talk, even though some times I’d like to reach through and choke one of them for some of their takes
3. RUDIS—they were my number 1 last year with Ben and Tommy. I love Ben and can listen to him all day and Matt has grown on me. I just feel the other 2 jumped ahead them this year.
4. Weighing In/Trackwrestling with David Mirikitani. They have so many names it’s confusing. JB tried to explain it before but it flies over my head. So if I have the name wrong I apologize but it’s the ones with Dave
5. BLack Shoe with Clay and Garret. The only PSU podcast. Hopefully next year they Do more podcasts on a more regular basis.
6. Bloodround. Michigan guys and have a consistent schedule. I feel like they go off topic a lot about personal stories, which isn’t for me
7. MatTalk or whatever the other Jason Bryant one’s are called. I like the Mirikitani one and I have that at 4 so I’ll lump all the rest of them here. Usually these other ones are talking about Virginia Tech, NC State, etc.
8. Steelwood Radio..tOSU guys. They do a nice job with tOSU interviews with their wrestlers and recruits

These are my top 8 and what I listen to anytime they’re on. Hopefully some new podcasts pop up next year as I love it.

Would love Ironhead to start doing a weekly podcast

Anyone have anything they listen to that I haven’t mentioned?

For those that don’t listen to podcasts, check these out and enjoy

The Inside Trip is my favorite wrestling podcast. The guys are great even though they are tOSU homers. Nobody is perfect.

Re: FRL. Someone needs to tell hysterical Nomad that matches don’t end in the 1st period (re: Nolf). He “could” have lost if 2-0, not “should” have lost. Those guys were “out of pocket” this week with the screaming match.

And I don’t get Flonerdthug’s jingoism. He’s all about opportunities for wrestlers until they want to wrestle for another country that they have ties to so they can become Olympians. As long as USA wrestling isn’t paying their freight, who cares. That stuff was an issue for me when I was about 14.

Agree, if you are going to be upset about a Micic wrestling for Serbia, then they also need to be upset with a Christian Pulisic moving to Germany as a teenager to train and then playing for the US men's team in soccer.

Agreed, FRL is generally good. Could do without Alien Hour and have come to agree with many others that Nomad is a dweeb.

I really enjoy Mirikitani. Cody will likely go on with him a month or so after Nationals if history is any guide.

Have also grown to really like the Inside Trip guys. They're Buckeye homers, but also very respectful toward Penn State, and they're just funny guys in general. Cenzo has given them some good fodder for their intro the last month..."Don't wind up like Vincenzo...."

I also miss T-Row and Funky, but Dernlan does bring some good coaching perspective to the Podcast and Askren regularly rips on Iowa.

I find the 7 minutes and On the Mat podcasts that Andy Hamilton and Kyle Klingman do humorous in that you'll rarely/never get a positive word out of him or his guests toward Cael or PSU. It's as if if they just ignore us, we'll hopefully go away and everything will be right with the world again.

The worst is Scott Casber. Another Iowa shill who can’t handle Cael’s dominance

not quite the same. Pulisic is being paid on a world stage. I think Pyles issue is that we are training these folks / amateurs at our olympic training centers. I might be wrong though.

One thing I like about Askren is that he doesn't take himself too seriously.

I couldn't even listen to the FRL's wrap-up show. I've got better things to do than listen to a bitch fest from 4 nerds ... Pyles and Nomad in particular.

They are being trained at our RTC’s. Pulisic started out in the Borussia Dortmund youth system as a teenager. There are other members on the US national team who trained in the German youth system as a German citizen and then used dual US citizenship to play for the USA.

yea. the German school systems, some orientated for sports/athletes, are not the same as the professional club sponsored youth development system.

There is more than a little openness and sharing within the USA RTCs. USA wrestling appears to prospering with current model, so what's working doesn't need any restrictions.

If Micic trains at an USA center and competes for a different country (NLWC Franklin, Puerto Rico) USA team members benefit from access to another elite workout partner.

All the shows that are current (releasing episodes) on the Mat Talk Podcast Network.

Not all of them are putting out shows every month, but there's a master feed with all the shows that can tend to confuse people. Short Time is the third-longest running wrestling-specific podcast out there, behind the 13-year-old Mat Slammers, by a couple of cool wrestling guys in the Council Bluffs area, who have been doing a show since 2006. On The Mat has been released as a podcast since 2010, when it first surfaced on my first USA Wrestling MatChat feed.

A full list of every wrestling podcast I can find is at http://www.mattalkonline.com/directory

When I get busy with travel and announcing, typically Short Time is the one that gets the break. That's also the most diverse on the network (and in the country, IMO) in terms of the style of guests and topics discussed.

All great podcast. I started out not really caring for Bloodround and Inside Trip but now they are some of my favorites. FRL is great but when Nomad starts yelling and acting like a tough guy it really annoys me. If you ever need a good laugh or to shake your head in disbelief listen to Initiate Contact. It's a couple of very drunk Iowegians that don't know much about the sport. If you ever read the HR it's what I would envision Ironbird and Wasdt21 having a podcast together would sound like:D

Hard to take those arguments seriously.

I have yet to meet an Italian, Spaniard, or Frenchman whose name ends in v. Yet those names are prominent in those wrestling lineups.

If the Russians are gonna farm out their guys, why not us too? At least Micic and Habat have actual ethnic ties to the countries they represent.

Is Cliff still doing the Hustle? I enjoyed the first 5 episodes and hope he keeps it going.

... I started out not really caring for Bloodround and Inside Trip but now they are some of my favorites ...
I still can’t get into Bloodround, but I have just come around on Inside Trip. Thanks to this thread, I gave Inside Trip a fourth try, and enjoyed their NCAA summary episode. ( I had unsubscribed from inside trip three times previously--first for their opening song, then because they took too long to get to actual wrestling content, then for unnecessary swearing and posing.) I guess I have built up enough tolerance for all the annoying stuff on Inside Trip, and can now just appreciate the wrestling talk.

I like The Inside Trip and FRL. The Bloodround Schtick got old but they do get somehow get some good guests. Although I appreciate the effort and give them credit for trying, the PSU pod is pretty bad. If you want to hear someone predict 60-0 dual wins for PSU and 10 All Americans listen to that one. Sometimes the whole pod is only 1 guy talking and the other guys audio is off.

All in all it is nice to have options when it comes to listening to wrestling content or having the option to have something to listen to at all.

I enjoy going for a long walk or hike and listening to Flo's podcast. Three things I wish they would change is how 1) they get off topic so easily when they see a shiny object. 2)They drop Smalls internet connection every episode ( not a good Marketing tool) 3) The review of the NCAA tournament is always a bitch session over the refs. Yet, they will interject that they would not want to be on the mats in stripes.

Although not a podcast, I also like that PSU Athletic archives JBs radio. Fun to go relive it with this team.

Also I liked the Funk and Tommy show better. Tommy held up his own, at time I think Matt gets run over by Ben.

Thanks for the post Pish

I agree with everything you say, 7.

I think Ben Askren is great, but neither Tommy nor Matt are strong enough as personalities to be a foil for Ben. They agree with him too much and are not fun and dynamic enough.

IMO the Rudis podcasts are great. Ben and Matt tell it like it is.
I've listened to FRL for years, and still enjoy it, but I really wish that they would replace Nomad with Spey or Mike Mal. Can't take Nomad seriously. His go-to reply is to tell fan bases to "shut up", and his takes aren't all that great.
As others have stated, Inside Trip is really good.

I started with FRL and Trow and Funky, had some good back and worth’s with Rowland’s on twitter.

Started with inside trip when I went to OSU in 17 with some DM’s about wrestling friendly spots.

Same with Bloodround getting some info on places etc.

The Bloodround guys are pretty funny and I always get a laugh out of their “parent corner” bits. I like the Flo podcast, too. The back-and-forth between Saylor and the rest of the crew can be amusing. Calling those guys “nerds” is uncalled for, and Bratke was probably a better wrestler than any of us. Ben Askren’s views outside of wrestling are pretty far out there but I enjoy listening to his wrestling takes. Plus, name me a podcaster with better creds than Askren and I’ll call you a liar, lol

I’m gonna give The Inside Trip a listen, thanks for the recommendation!

Used to like Flo a lot but IMHO their podcast has lost its way. Too much non-wrestling stuff like Alien Hour that I just have to skip over now. Stick to wrestling, fella! You do that well.

I find Askren entertaining regardless of who his co-host is. I really like when he interviews people as he just asks them hard questions point blank and sometimes gets some really interesting answers.

Have listened to Bloodround and Inside Trip too and they are good as well.

I echo my 'thank you' to everyone producing wrestling content! It keeps many of us sane during hectic weeks at work.

Speaking of Ironbird, he is really going off the deep end now. I almost, but did not, reply to one of his Kale is Cheating rants with the Tale of Dan “Extra Scholarships” Gable. He’d somehow explain all that away with some rhetorical flights of fancy, so I held off

He has the feel of an internet black ops...comes on goes all mark to build trust with the masses....only to really be dragging the site down with his actions.

otherwise I just cant logically understand the posting

The HR was always a bit fanatical but the past couple years has gone a long way in the race with themat.com to the bottom of the barrel of wrestling boards.

My theory on that is as the theories to rationalize away Penn State's obviously temporary status as "King of the Wrestling Mountain" have dissipated and HR has been left to face the obvious reality (Penn State wrestling and Cael are the King of the Wrestling Mountain") or step into the twilight zone most of the board have chosen the twilight zone.

Curious if you “gave them a listen” and your thoughts.

I feel like they really separating themselves from the pack now that they getting some really good guests. Cenzo, Demas and Dean really well done.

FRL going to move down a spot for me if they don’t start being more positive. Seems lately all they do is talk negative about one thing or another from reffing, to now with who’s wrestling for what country, etc. Negative about who’s competing where on the freestyle scene and who’s not wrestling.
