With Tim Duncan's retirement and with the recent thread we had about picking your all-time starting five, got me to thinking (a dangerous thing I know). So I'm looking for your thoughts and somewhat of a general consensus.

At first thought I might put Duncan in the top 10, but then in thinking about it (in no particular order):

Michael Jordan
Magic Johnson
Wilt Chamberlain
LeBron James
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Larry Bird
Bill Russell
Oscar Robertson
Kobe Bryant
Jerry West - Mr. Clutch, he's the logo for heaven's sake

That's 10. It's easy to say oh yes Duncan is in the top 10 all-time, but then who does he knock from the top 10? Who would be in your top 10 greatest players in NBA history?

To make it even more difficult and up for even further debate and less of a consensus, what about players 11-15?

Tim Duncan
Karl Malone
Elgin Baylor
Shaq - he was unstoppable in his prime
Hakeem Olajuwon

Hopefully, I'm not missing anyone obvious (with apologies to Dr. J. and Pete Maravich) and waiting for more great years from Kevin Durant and Steph Curry.

Your thoughts?

I would take Duncan over Bird, Bryant and Russell (a consummate team player, but not top 10 in talent). West would be on the bubble with Olajuwon.
Elgin Baylor would be in my top 10.

any list without Pat Cummings is incomplete:

A couple of old-timers should be considered. Bob Petit and George Mikan
