Since 2000, Karen & I were in the Presidents Club. We donated a weeks vacation pay & additional monies to help our university students achieve their future goals. It is a major sacrifice, but one we felt so proud to do. Due to the betrayal by the Administration of our University, in 2012 we cut back on the donations. We still give around $1,500, but that is only too maintain the stadium seats.

The education I received at The Pennsylvania State University has provided me & family with a comfortable livelihood for the past 45 years, for an engineer, not a wall street executive. I would not want to deny our students the same opportunity.

When our WONDERFUL ALUMNI are able to straighten this mess, hopefully once again we’ll be able to give more.

Dear Mr. Step……..

The 2014-15 fiscal year ends on June 30, but you still have time to make your gift.

It is your support that opens doors for our students, fuels ground-breaking research, sets our athletic teams on a path to success, and encourages new and creative programming at campuses across the Commonwealth. Make your gift today and be a part of what makes Penn State great.

Thank you!

Apparently, FSS's statement that "there exists a culture of reverence for the football program that is ingrained in all levels of the campus community" was non inclusive enough. Your acknowledgement of deciding to place financial emphasis on football activities while cutting back financial support intended to provide opportunities for the general student population clearly suggests this culture still exists and that it exists outside the "campus community" too.

The education I received at The Pennsylvania State University has provided me & family with a comfortable livelihood for the past 45 years, for an engineer, not a wall street executive. I would not want to deny our students the same opportunity. You're statement of not wanting to deny current/future students the same opportunities is inconsistent with your actions. Do you think that by reducing donations you are providing opportunities for present/future students?

When our WONDERFUL ALUMNI are able to straighten this mess, hopefully once again we’ll be able to give more. And what objective criteria will you be using to decide when it's time to jump back in? Seems to me the mess was created almost 4 years ago and the administrators who created it are long gone. If you can't get past it after 4 years, then I suggest you find another institution you're more comfortable supporting at the level you're accustomed to.

Very glad to see you responded, never thought I'd reel in a big FISH like you. I require the $1500 is directed to scholarships for all student athletes and associated support as cheerleaders, band, etc.

THON is another target of Karen’s & my giving. You also have a problem with that. We also give to Ryan’s Sunshine Fund. I bet you’re a mega-buck giver to that fund.

Now, go away son, you bore me.

Amen!

The OG BOT and the existing power structure have proven they can't manage the these donations. The monies should be with held since that seems to be the only way to keep these money from being poorly spent. They have demonstrated repeatedly their lack of true fiduciary capacity.

We don't give to anything PSU or PSU related and have not since 2012. I drank the kool-aid and gave early in 2012, because I was trying to believe that it would help in a time of great crisis. Sadly, "I was misinformed".

I applaud your generosity step.eng69. While I give to various charities, Penn State is no longer one of them. I simply will not give a dime as long as the old guard is in power. The recent stories about our President's compensation, for example, is a prime example of why I feel that way. I consider our leadership fiscally irresponsible. The more you give, the more they will spend. You mentioned you did not want to deny the current students the same opportunity you had. Paying for their education is their responsibility, not yours. I know times were different, but I worked and paid for my entire Penn State education without any scholarships or government loans. I know of a recent Penn State grad who did the same. I am not critical of your choice. We all must make our own decisions and we both have.

Hell Rob, are my hemorrhoids causing a brown stain on my pants or is it that my zipper is down again.

Those Senior Moments! Embarrassing
Wrong guy Brother... I think i just had quote failure as I was responding to CR66. My bad.

For the record, on my last donation request I wrote. "The administration wasted in excess of 100 Million dollars. Please take my contribution from those funds." I received back a nice letter, actually, telling me they will remove me from their mailing lists.

Just fooling with you...my wife is always telling me "You are a total embarrassment". You struck the words to the tee. I do have the problem with the zipper.

Fairgambit, I do know where you going. Karen & I have discussed giving up the seats when the STEP program started because the athletic dep. screwed us out of seats we applied for in the upper south deck. I need those chair back seats because I can’t seat very long on bleachers. We had 6 seats, 4 in row 66 & two in rows AA & BB. I wanted to combine the seats to Rows AA & BB so I could be with the family. It didn’t happen. But, I was talking to some of the people that got seats where I requested and found out they were first time contributors to the N.L.C. at the time, I had over 500 nlc points that should have been honored for seat selection that is not exactly premier seating at the stadium. The NLC would ask every season if I cared for lower bowl seating, but the family like the upper deck. The required contribution for the seating was minimal for the 6 seats, but we gave much more.

The entire administration of the STEP was totally mishandled. If they wanted to phase out the minimum contributors they should have done this over a long period, maybe 10years. It was a tremendous injustice to the loyal people supporting the program. Kar and I felt that the STEP is eventually going to ruin the game day experience, being at games before the STEP, I was obvious that Penn State sentiment was lost. We may pull the trigger any coming year and opt out of all PSU events if the crap continues. We are also have the same feeling as mentioned on this board--it's not the same PSU sentiment as in the past. It has nothing to do with change, it has to do with respect & civility toward the alumni.

I know the NLC really screwed over the many faithful who support the athletics for decades. My sister-in-laws family had tickets at the 20 yd line since the 60’s, her father worked for the PSU ag. extension in the northeast. When he & her mother passed the school would not grandfather the seats. Which always was the rule regarding seats. She could buy into the seats for a cool 5 grand I believe.

Tickets were never transferable so I don't know what your complaint is. step was the first time you were actually able to transfer ticket.

I believe I mentioned the seats can’t be grandfathered.

My response to the same email yesterday:

NOT A FREAKING CHANCE THAT I WOULD DONATE A SINGLE DOLLAR TO THIS PENN STATE GOVERNED BY THIS BOARD OF TRUSTEES. YOU ARE ON THE VERGE OF LOSING ME FOREVER!!

CR66... Terry Pegula made an extremely generous donation which was earmarked for ice hockey. Did you send him an email and ridicule him for his reverence of the ice hockey culture?? The fact of the matter is if someone has the ability to give, they can donate to anything they want. Who are you to tell anyone what they should do with their money??

Awesome. What are the odds a lot of grants will be given to organizations with ties to the 9/11 BoT members or their relatives.

I proudly give my money and my volunteer time, earmarked for internships, fellowships, and scholarships to high achieving needy students. There are a lot of great kids at Penn State who will go on and do great things with their lives. That is what Penn State is all about. I hear back from the ones who benefit from my support individually, and know how grateful they are for my help. That's the only statement I care to make.
