The board is overlooking Ball State.

I hope scenes of Toledo 2000 fill your mind. Or how about losing to temple?
PSU can absolutely lose today. My point is whether the board overlooks them or not is meaningless. But hey, if PSU wins by 30 you get to say glad the players weren’t like the board. Lose, and you get to be a genius when you are really captain obvious.

I agree (in principle) with the concept of not overlooking an opponent. I don't think CJF will let that happen (Ball State, Ball State, Ball State). And Ball State is no joke. But I think we win and cover the spread.

I hope the team doesn’t overlook Ball State like the forum is. Zero discussion on Ball State all week despite them returning 20 of 22 starters. We should win yes- but let’s just jump to Auburn?
Good thing this board isn’t playing Ball State for a number of reasons.

From your thread title and OP what else would we assume you were trying to say?
Indeed. Do *I* think today’s game will be a walk in the park? No. If I did, would it have any impact on the outcome? No.

I’ve seen zero posts saying this would definitely be a blowout. We’ve been burned too many times for us to overlook anyone. All due respect, the OP was an incredible misread of the board’s collective mindset.

I don't know whether the forum is overlooking Ball State or not. One thing is clear. The board moderators have allowed the board to morph into an All Topics Are Fine board. It is no longer a Penn State football message board. Just take a look at the topic on the first page: 9/11, TV binge watching, vaccinations, Viagra, Restaurants in Fell's Point, Premier League, TV characters, grilling history, weekend jukebox, beauty queen polls, etc. This is no longer a Penn State football forum!

And this is what keeps the board alive. This is the only free board that has a pulse nowadays. I used to go to the Buckeye and USC boards and they both faded away.

PSU must get out and score quickly and in their initial two or three possessions too put pressure on Ball State and allowvthecdefense to use a generous rotation. The starters must be fresh for Auburn.

Morphed? It's kinda always been that way. Personally I think it's a better place because of it....not worse

Pony up some bucks for the Den.
FYI take a look around at other sites. Very, very few even have a free board let alone one that does talk about football.

It could be close but is the BSU DL as strong as UW? Have a hard time believing that one. I don't see PSU struggling to move ball. It comes down to your QB against our secondary which is lights out level. If he does play best game of his life then could be close. Any TOs and I don't see it being closer than 14.

Turnovers are the key….when you’re playing a team with less talent you have to get turnovers to blow them out. The only way they can stay in the game is if you give them turnovers.

True
About a 1 in 20 chance that it’s a close game. 19 in 20 we blow them out.
I'm optimistic but not that optimistic. IMO PSU should win by more than 2 scores but it will be a tight game if PSU turns the ball over.

Last week didn't give me a lot of confidence about our OL / running game. Last year we needed Clifford to get most of our yards on the ground. I know this isn't Wisconsin but PSU has to prove they can get a consistent 4-5 yards per carry. Even against a good MAC team.

I realize that Ball State isn't a "big" game but considering there are only 12-15 games all year people should get fired up and savor every one of them. Four months from now people are going to be saying "Geez, it's almost eight months until the next game, this sucks."

I haven't done a systematic study but my impression is that upsets happen in football more often than people think they will happen. PSU is what, a 22 point favorite? It would be interesting to look at all the, say, 20 to 24 point favorites over the last 20 years and see what percentage of them lost, what percentage won but by less than a TD, etc. I bet someone somewhere has done this and it would be very interesting to see the results.

I respect all opponents so no reason to fear them or saying we'll lay 50 on them. Ball St. played all MAC in regular season opponents last year, but defeated San Jose St. in a bowl game . They scored in the 30's but most opponents stayed in the games.

Yes, all last year showed was that they were a good MAC team, but we have no way of knowing how good or bad the MAC was last year.

20 returning starters that struggled against a FCS team.

There has not been an Auburn thread either, so no jumping the gun.

In reality, I think most here are very much in wait and see mode. We have no depth chart to discuss and a lot are waiting for more data points to make better opinions.

Is there something you would like to discuss?
