The debacle in Piscataway deepens

The answer is "yes, they could have done it at the Prudential Center in Newark". More convenient to other fan bases. More hotel availability. More places to go to eat, etc. Just a superior venue on every level.

But they didn't give a shake about other fan bases. They wanted to cater to their own and spin a bunch of bs.
Yes, I'm sure the Prudential Center would rather book the B1G tournament than have Celine Dion for Saturday and Sunday night. Rutgers, unlike PSU, isn't in the middle of nowhere. Who exactly would be paying for this venue, by the way?

Stop with that nonsense. Having a full-sized arena is a required criterion for joining B10. Rutgers chose to have its arena 30+ minutes away from campus (before traffic).

Rutgers also knew it would be hosting B10s well in advance -- as in, long before Celine Dion planned her tour. They chose to hold the tournament in the smaller arena. And B10 chose to let them.

They screwed the pooch why because Penn St fans didn't get enough seats?Well let's see how Penn St handles it next year.Olympic Trials Sunday night 8pm sold tickets before they told everyone it's at 8pm Sunday.Thats pooch screwing as well.
Psu did that?

Hmmm....

And Penn State isn’t hosting Bigs in Rec Hall. If Lehigh were Rutgers, they would host EIWA’s in Grace Hall. If you are in a self professed (and factual) hotbed if wrestling, put the tourney where it belongs.

Come on Jefe....i enjoy reading most of your comments but this is just dumb. First of all rutgers main campus has 3 different branch campuses and in fact the RAC is on one of those campuses and 5 minute drive from the “main” campus.

The big 10 knew that 6200 seats would be the capacity. And they let Rutgers host.Rutgers has a venue on campus and the big 10 never suggested moving it.Not sure how this is Rutgers fault. If the big 10 wanted it in a bigger arena they could've asked for it or skipped Rutgers in the rotation. Most big 10 venues hold 15,000.So with 9000 less seats tickets are limited.Hopefully the people that are so upset about it they've to hate on Rutgers actually contact the big 10 and complain. The issue is it's so close every Penn St fan wants tickets now but when it was at Michigan St not many Penn St fans went.

Suriano has nothing to do with RAC being half as big as the other conference arenas.

Unless, of course, the arena can hold 15k of him but only 8k of the average New Jersey resident.

Sounds like a issue to bring up with the big 10 since they were aware of the size of the RAC when they gave Rutgers the tournament. The big 10 also invited Rutgers into the conference without them having big enough venues. Its all a big 10 issue but Penn St fans like to pile on Rutgers whenever they can regardless if they're at fault or not.Suriano still had something to do with every post bashing Rutgers who you kidding

It's about growing the sport and recognizing that the location is a 2-7 hour drive or 35 minute flight from Pittsburgh to cater to the 2nd biggest fan base in the country.
It should not be in a 6,200 seat areana.
That's what Stabler areana is. Lehigh choose 2 years ago to cater and profit by moving to PPL areana. I heard they hoped to do it this year but PPL had conflict (hockey?)

I see you failed to comment on me fact checking your 30 minute drive from campus....

Northwesterns arena holds less the 8k (Wikipedia says slightly more than 8.1k) northwestern must be substandard as well
Suriano didn't go to NW so they're safe

Did the Newark arena suddenly move closer to campus?

NW is an original conference member. Gonna guess they haven't applied for conference admission in the past 100 years. Any chance they got grandfathered?

The big 10 could've moved it they didn't.At Michigan St the place was empty nobody traveled the whole upper bowl was empty. So they probably looked at the tickets sold the last few years and said why move it to a 19500 seat arena to have it half full.Thats what happens when everyone wants to go when it's close and convenient. And not sure anyone would like hanging out in Newark most fans would come to 1 session and never go back

Suriano is your excuse, not mine

What newark arena lol you mean the prudential center which is not tied to rutgers? If you are gonna rag on rutgers you might as well have the knowledge and not speak out of your ass

This is the same school that booked its next PSU dual at Madison Square Garden.

Which is a great idea. Also obliterates the excuse making over B10s.
Also wrestled Michigan at the Garden this year. The big 10 has all the say about the tournament

12:00 start on sunday. what time should i plan on being in the vicinity of the RAC to get in by 11:45? i've heard parking is a mess and coming from 1:20-1:40 away.

leave by 9:30 to get there before session 3 starts? or wait a bit and don't worry about getting there on time if PSU doesn't have anybody wrestling that session until 149?

The only reason the BJC exists is because it was required for B10 admission.

What you're saying is that Rutgers did not use a larger arena, be it Newark or the Meadowlands or whatever, as basis for admission. Which would mean B10 lowered its standards for Rutgers.

Yes the big 10 did lower it's standards because of the NYC TV market it was all about the $.It has been a big 10 issue with Rutgers all along

I mean let’s be honest adding in Maryland and Rutgers was not raising the Big Ten standards lol :D:D

I'll bet Rutgers even planned on this being daylight savings time weekend. They are trying to ruin all of the fun.

HELP! I have 2 tickets for all sessions but no parking pass. How will parking work? I do have/need handicapped parking. Thanks in advance. See you at the RAC!

You can pay cash to park. They sold passes to speed up the process( I know most won't believe Rutgers planned at all) Yellow lot will will be cash and passes.

I don’t know about handicap parking, but I was sort of just banking on there being a pay as you go option ($30 each day) when you arrive at the lot. Hope that’s true, at least.

Yes you can pay cash.Handicap should be up front in the green lot

Maybe a dumb question, but what are we allowed to bring in with us? Just clear bags? Any snacks/drinks?

I’m in section 315 all sessions , anybody else up top?
Section 313, Row E. The Bid 10 Wrestling Tournament was on my bucket list once I retired and this will be my first one since I retired this past December. On a side note, my cousin, a long time PSU wrestling season ticket holder, has attended the last 7-8 Big tournaments. I called and asked him if he was going, after I got my tickets and he said no because he had no desire to walk around on Rutger's campus compared to other Big Campus'. It made me wonder if I made a mistake but I'm glad to know that PSU is hosting next year's tourney.

Having been to Rutgers for both football and wrestling, I'm all for piling on!!

I went to grad school at Rutgers, lived on the Busch campus and had my classes on the College Avenue campus. Sometimes I turned around because it was taking so long to get to the College Avenue campus that I would miss my class. It's not 5 minutes driving except maybe at 3am - and certainly not when there is a parking lot cluster#$@*.

I will agree that the B1G dropped the ball big time on this one. But Goodale's whole cloth nonsense about the B1G picking Rutgers because of the stellar program and ability to sell 6200 tickets really set me off. He's like a variation on the old joke about lawyers lying.

I really hope the B1G has learned from this poor choice and doesn't allow Rutgers to host again until they can secure a proper venue for the event. And the silliness about people being super turned off by Prudential Center's neighborhood is poppycock. They host the NJ Devils and all sorts of concerts all the time and do quite well. Plus, who's going to mess around with a group of wrestling fans? :D
