The Stench is heavy in this one....

Change is often difficult.

I guess that one thing I'd say is that these newer implementations, which seem to me to be somewhat slower and more graphically oriented (as described by a non-IT person like me), are prettier than the old style of bulletin boards, but not any more functional.

You guys are seriously messed up. 2 minutes with the new board and I can sere it is exponentially better than the old one. Dark ages are over lol
There is no thread view. A ton of people liked and used thread view. I cannot help that you are unable to understand that we would be a little miffed. I cannot force empathy upon you.

Which is why this board is way better. Thread view sucked and needed to be eliminated. Typing half of your response in the subject line is just dumb.

This has to have been the last board on the internet that still used thread view. Give topic view some time it is so much better. You will get used to it.

The jokes would come hot and furious with thread view. Ah, either I'll adjust or I'll just stop posting, we'll see.

Agree completely LionJim.

We've had some very clever posters, whose quick wits were treasures. One person would start it off and we could get a flood of quick one liner responses, that were easy to read.

Have always appreciated your posts LionJim. Now it seems it will be hard to even know if your favorite posters have even made a reply in a thread that is interesting to you.

Plus, a thread could start with one topic, but a clever reply could take it quickly in another direction.

Sure wish there was an option to add the Thread View look, like we've had for over a decade.

Will be sorry to see some of the old posters go, if they decide to leave.

It is unbelievable that some people would leave because thread view went away.

You appear to be a shill for the group that created this new format.

Don't recall you posting here before.

We get it that you don't understand the many advantages of Thread View, that thousands of posters enjoyed for over a decade.

If you have any input into the process... Getting a Thread View option back would be a good use of your time.

So far, don't see how you can quickly scan for inputs from specific key posters, who may have a quick comment on multiple topics.

That is a huge drawback to what appears to be this much more cumbersome and time consuming format.

Click on the "key" posters name. Click "Follow". You'll now see every post that person makes.

We can't help it you're stuck in 1997, TJ. Cry me a river.

If you don't like it, I hope you leave........you won't be missed around here.

If you'd spend time reading threads instead of trolling internet forums to post AGW propaganda for your employer, you'd know that ClarksonMark has been around and posting for a long time.

Thread view was an outdated format that had been sent to pasture long-ago by the early 2000s. Not only would it clutter a board, but it often obfuscated the original intention of a thread. Topic view has always been much more organized and coherent leading to better flowing discussion.

Stop being an idiot. Just because he thinks thread view sucks and he likes the new software doesn't make him a shill. And he's posted here for awhile.

Why? It certainly made it MUCH easier to determine whether to even look at the post or not. In thread view it was VERY easy to ONLY open the posts you wanted to. Now you are forced to page through the entire thread in order to find the part of the conversation that you are interested in. It is now like trying to put a puzzle together in order to view a specific branch of a conversation. You have to manually go through everyone's quoted post to see who they were responding to and then follow the crumb trail somehow in order to see a conversation in the order that the conversation took place. Now it is simply a linear temporal listing of posts regardless of who someone was responding to.

Right....and if you wanted to get all points on a single topic, it would take forever because thread view was stupidly organized.

Absolutely false. You had a CHOICE before to view it in whichever way made sense to you, topic or thread. Or you could chose Hybrid view. Now we are left with NO choice.

Exactly right JR4PSU. Those who liked Topic View could use it.
Those who liked the efficiency, simplicity and much faster ability to scan the board for key topics and key posters in Thread View could use it.

This is a huge setback for BWI.

Feel bad for Phil Grosz, whose business is likely to suffer because of this change. At this stage in his career, it's a blow to likely lose the inputs from many posters who liked the more usable Thread View format that thousands of posters enjoyed.

LOL! You are absurd.

The message board is the least of Phil Grosz's concerns when you're talking about losing business.

Good Christ, it's not the end of the world.

I would beg to differ. Many people subscribe to BWI because of the ability to "talk" football with other PSU football fans/experts. Yeah, the content is very important, obviously, but to suggest that Phil is not concerned with his customer's satisfaction of the message boards is ludicrous.

You totally missed the point. Let me make this easy for you, via the nice new fancy easy to use bullet list feature:

  • You and TJ are about the only two who are having a cow with this.
  • Blind prognostications littered with grammatical errors and other random BS are a far bigger deal than a message board with regards to customer satisfaction/retention.

Makes reading responses a bit easier, but I feel less compelled to post/reply. I'm sure that's a good thing for non-TV show/movie fans ;).

You just made his point for him. Congrats. You think you have mastered message boarding via topic. LOL. You cannot even follow the postings being made on the board. LOL.

So I'm seeing a lot of posts from posters I've never seen before, saying how great this new Board is. You don't think these posts are from Rivals people trying to play up the transition?

I'm not saying anything either way about thread vs topic...I know people had their preferences. But I think THIS post is a good example of what was negative about thread view. Nothing personal Monetery, but you aren't the first regular poster today noticing people posting who you've "never seen before". TJ did the same thing. Unfortunately, without even realizing it, many of the old timers on this board had their own little boys club and ignored many of the others on here. They simply picked and chose who they conversed with and ignored the rest. With all apologies to Chris Robinson, it's funny how in this new topic view they are.... seeing things for the first time.

On the old Board I felt like a drone, high above, picking out the targets that I wanted to read. With this "updated" Board I feel like I'm in a tunnel crawling around not knowing where I'm going, or what's up around the next bend, in the tunnel.

Something interesting Monterey, I quit Phil's board this AM.I go month-to-month so I have the option. Anyhow, the Yahoo babe offers me 3 months free added on to my last few weeks. I politely declined and she bumped it to 4. I passed.

The problem there is that you had half the people using thread view and the other half using topic... those with thread view complained that you didn't start your reply in the subject line while the topic users complained that they had no idea who some posters were replying to since they didn't use the quote feature. The end result was a jumbled mess.

Topic view is so much better. There is a reason why no one uses thread view anymore.

===========

That's not true. It was a direct post about a very low volume poster, who has not been a frequent poster.

I posted about a poster who has been a member since 2001, who has about a thousand posts. In 14 years or so, that's not many posts. That's maybe 4 posts in a month. Plus, many of those posts could have been in other places.

===========

Once you scanned the board in thread view, you could switch to topic view and read the replies, which included all posts.

So your fantasy version wasn't reality... Sorry to bust your imaginary bubble.

This format has some advantages, which many posters may enjoy over time. However, it takes away a very efficient and effective Thread View format that thousands of posters used for many years. You could quickly see hundreds of replies, organized in order, if you wanted that option.

Your mileage may vary. Your choice. But the reality remains, many posters enjoyed the much more efficient and effective format that has been removed.

Well put MontereyLion.

The tunnel vision comparison is right on point with this new version.

Some posters may not have understood or appreciated the ability to use Thread View to get the the bigger picture quickly, to aid in decisions about where to quickly participate as a reader or a poster.
