I agree....why does it have to be Paternoville? I'm a big Joe fan but we need to let some things go.
We let EVERYTHING go. Can we have ONE THING?!

I grew up in Beaver County, not far from the towns of Beaver and Beaver Falls. Both are on the Beaver River. Point is there is a long history of geographical landmarks in PA that celebrate the Beaver, so why not one more? After all we could all use a little more Beaver in our lives, no?PA already has Blue Ball, Intercourse and Bird in Hand. So, I second my own suggestion...
"Beavertown"
It's not only American, it's Pennsylvanian!
LOLNo disrespect to JoePa, one of the greatest ever....but why not...
Franklinville...?
It was changed illegally. Per the clubs constitution it required a meeting to be called with a vote. But it happened over Skype meeting with the officers over the summer so no one else had the chance to stop it from the current regime in charge. #neverforget #stillsalty
Actually they did. When I was young it was Hickory Township but was changed to Hermitage when I was in college.Because that's where it started so the name should just continue. Did they change the name of the town you live in? No.
Why not let the residents name it what they want?
Who cares! FWIW let it up to the students. They are the ones living there.
The students did name it... Paternoville.
The students named it Paternoville over 10 years ago. 95% of current students never watched a Paterno coached team.

Agreed. Paterno to the current Penn State students is not much more relevant than Bo Schembechler to current Michigan students or Woody Hayes to OSU students. I doubt very many students at Michigan or OSU spend much time thinking about or honoring their former great coaches. Right or wrong, I think Penn State students are in the same boat.
I don't think the current students have an issue with honoring Paterno. They just don't worship him the way some here do. They have a much more objective view. Time has moved on, the students have moved on, they are living in the present, not the past.Agreed. Let's just chill on idolizing coaches. Jesus.

So? Ever notice all the alabama students who wear houndstooth hats in honor of bear bryant? That still happens.
I think it is more because the kids think the hounds tooth hat looks cool. If Bryant wore a boring looking or less stylish hat, then I doubt any kid would wear it.

Pretty much the only place on the planet that people wear those ugly hats is in Tuscaloosa. I think it's pretty clear they wear them because of Bryant.
The houndstooth pattern itself has become another symbol that represents Bama. It appears in the form of hats, skirts, purses and many other items. And it is not limited to Tuscaloosa display, it can be spotted all over the South.Don't get me wrong, I am not saying the hats are not a knod to Bear Bryant. They are. When I see a camera panning the crowd on game day at Bama, I tend to see more girls then guys wearing the hats. (although I could be wrong about that but I know a large contingent of women wear them). I suspect most of them are probably more concerned about looking cute in the hat then honoring Bryant. If Bryant was known for thick black reading glasses instead of that hat, I doubt we would see many students wearing them.
It a student run organization. If the want to change it they can. It should not be some old people telling them what to name it. If they want to change it back they can. It not up to us to decide for them.
I saw the post. It has nothing to do with my personal feelings on Paterno. The current students in charge can change it back if it was clearly important enough to them. Obviously it is not. My point still stands that it should come from those currently running it not from alumni or fans. It their organization now. If they want it to be Paternoville then they should change it.you clearly missed the post on HOW it was illegally changed by a small cabal of students under the influence of the BoT.
but don't let these pesky facts deter you from your Paterno hate
So what is preventing the group from changing it back? It appears that there is a lack of support for doing that, otherwise it would have happened.you clearly missed the post on HOW it was illegally changed by a small cabal of students under the influence of the BoT.

Should we "chill" on "recognizing" a coach who accomplished much and was a huge part in building the Penn State reputation?Let's just chill on idolizing coaches. Jesus.

Why is recognizing a man's accomplishments viewed as "idolizing"?
