Tom Ryan story

Sometimes you have to give a pass and a shrug to student-grade quasi-professionalism, at least until it rises to appropriate Nebraskan back-fisting levels of hilarity. Otherwise critiquing bad pieces like this is like pulling wings off a moth. Then again, it's not that difficult to write coherently. And yet...

This has turned from a literary lesson about checking one's own written words into a discussion about the team that appears to be second best (right now) in 2017-18.

I believe it's dangerous to count out other teams, and I believe it strongly. The easiest-to-understand reason is injuries. The second is a little harder for most to grasp...and that is the mental side of all this. Over-confidence and complacency lead to less-than-needed preparation, and ultimately lower performance. Thank goodness Cael & Co. are at the helm, as they won't let that happen...they are very good at the mental-preparation (physical too) side of our sport.

So while some fans feed on the bravado, boasting and a little bluster, our coaches will not. They'll get down to work, on fundamentals and basics, promoting an environment where the kids are grateful for the opportunity.
Dang Roar, that works out perfectly. We as fans get to do what we do well, boast with some bluster because our guys are better than their guys. And because our guys are better than their guys we can enjoy our bluster.
Of course come next February and March the bluster will temporarily morph into chicken little screaming about the falling sky.

But hey. The emotional enjoyment of being a fan.

Yes, looking at their potential lineup, OSU might have their best team ever next year
On paper they could theoretically be the frontrunner.
Unfortunately on the mat they meet the actual frontrunner.

There was a SI article many years ago about a boxer. I think it was Ernie Terrell.
He was scheduled to meet Ali in a couple weeks.
The article was 3-4 pages long and was a glowing tribute to Terrell, both as a very good boxer, and also a very decent and fine man.
He had overcome all sorts of obstacles growing up and in his career, and he gave back to his community and so on.
The article never once mentioned his upcoming opponent.
The article ended like this:
“In fact you might say that Ernie Terrell is a Prince among boxers. Unfortunately he is meeting the King. Good night, sweet Prince.”
Or, as Mike Tyson once so famously said, "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face."

Maybe summing up all points scored for the entire season? We missed Reno ...

This. Because they wrestled in more matches than we did, it's is probably true that their total points is greater than ours. Talk about a tortured interpretation of data . . .

Right on! In fact, it is INCONCEIVABLE that tOSU can ever beat PSU again. :)

I hope that word means what I think! ;)

Well said.

I have no problem with any of that. O$U is fine. Some of the things TR doesI don't care for but his team is terrific and a credit to the sport.

That's a strong sales pitch:

“You sell the dream, you sell the big picture, you sell that you can win four national titles here. Now you can sell world titles and Olympic titles.”

Yeah! And don't just walk in. You move across the room. You use your face. You use your body. You use everything. Just send out this vibe. They will respond. :)
