Because they're adding a quality win to the resume while ND is going to beat a 1-6 FSU and BYU has Utah.
The entire resume is compared--you never have to beat someone ahead of you to jump someone. Never.

The resume changed--ND adds a win over FSU. Bama adds a win over LSU
It's not a difficult concept
11 being higher than 14 doesn't alter 14 is higher than 1-7 FSU (edit-sorry 1-9 FSU)

And, 'Bama is, well, 'Bama, and their recent history alone counts for something. After all, that's what largely places rankings at season start. Furthermore, the SEC is the SEC, and has been considered the NFL of CFB for years (why do you think ABC/ESPN wanted the SEC so badly?). NIL/portal is playing havoc with SEC domination and it's allowing other SEC teams besides the usual heavyweights to challenge for the crown, and newcomers like Texas are upending the SEC.

Alabama has the easiest path to winning out of the SEC contenders (MHO), and could very well end up in the SEC CCG and win it.
