is participating in the Oregon States this weekend. He's wrestling 170, in Class 4A, and is seeded #1. You can follow his progress on TrackWrestling (It's listed as "2017 OSAA/U.S. Bank/Les Schwab Tires"). You can also follow his progress at http://highschoolsports.oregonlive.com (you'll have to search for the article which provides live results/brackets).

He pinned his Round 1 opponent in 2:50. He majored his Round 2 opponent, 22-10. It appears that the semifinals take place tomorrow. He'll face the #5 seed in his semi.

Where do you guys see Wittlake settling in college? 184? Heard we were in pursuit of Hoffman, perhaps for 197.

Yes, Wittlake to 184.

Hoffman makes a ton of sense for 197, though there is some chance he might go up to HWT -- in which case he's behind Snacks. Also quite possible he joins his brother at Bucknell.

Yes. 'He's the best uncommitted wrestler in that weight range, and he's better than nearly all of the committed wrestlers (except Beard and possibly Borst and Woodley).

The only underclassmen who have beaten him are Beard (headed to NW) and HWTs Steveson and Schultz.

He also fits the psu model of....coachable, talent ceiling is not maxed out today, is mature for age not requiring coach over shoulder, grades are good, family near by.....I can go on.

Also as athletic as they come. The kid he did this to is no stiff, ranked 5th in PA.

I mean he's an elite recruit. When you ask if he's "really" the best option it implies it's not a very good option.

Hoffman is the #20 overall Junior in Intermat's high school rankings. Seems like a pretty good option to me.

Then your definition appears comprehensive since you cited Cox, who wrestled 220 most (all?) of his HS career.

A 220 who moves down? Tweener. A 195 who stays there? Tweener.

Don't think "comprehensive" is the best word choice here ...

12 on Flo, Gonna be the top guy at the weight assuming Beard goes 182. At worst 2nd at the weight. If we're really complaining about that then this fan base is jaded as hell.

Singular fan in this case. No need to smear the entire fan base.

You guys are fast, lol. I edited my post just to be clear I think he would be a real nice pick up, especially considering we already have 3, 5, 14 with 2 a distinct possibility. Hoffman might be the guy that puts this class into the redickoulous category.

Fair. Just frustrating. It's the same attitude that sees guys like Gulibon and McCutcheon get dragged down because they're not complete studs.

Jesus. This is why I love Cael recruiting nationally. Look at all the crybabies because one poster isn't thrilled with a PA recruit.

HS wrestling is pretty awful in general. Who cares about your state?

And yet you act as though the PA boy might not "really" be the best option nationally, because you didn't do your homework.

Then you invent excuses, like he's a "tweener." Don't know what level of recruit he is, but know he's a tweener. Uh-huh.

I don't even think 2018 is necessary if Rasheed sticks around and Cassar gets 3 years. You said yourself he could be a hwt.

That's an entirely different argument. Though there's nobody comparable in 2019, and probably not 2020 (except maybe Garcia if he grows to that size and doesn't play football).

But even so: Rasheed can't stick around. He graduates 2019, which would be Hoffman's shirt year.

Plus, if Cassar does get the 6th year, and Hoffman only starts for 3 years, that's just terrible news. That scenario worked out so badly for Matt Brown.

I think Garcia wants to be Southerns and perhaps the states All Time Rushing King First, that's a huge deal that I couldn't see a kid walking from. Although his future is probably on the mat I'd agree

AJ Ferrari is an amazing upper weight recruit for 2020. but I have no clue about him other than his wrestling. But regardless wrestlers emerge all the time. You can't just look at the rankings and say Hoffman is the best 197 recruit for the next 3 years.

Garcia is ranked #4 in the state already, which is pretty damn impressive considering he's a freshman and missed most of the season with a broken ankle. He's into the D4 finals.

If you regularly make posts that 90 percent of the board disagrees with, maybe they're not the ones who are wrong. Just spitballing here.

Which would be a less egregious mistake than not looking at the roster to know what year Rasheed graduates.

I also made the mistake of watching Hoffman for a few years.

Ferrari is at 160 now, so even if you think he's better than Hoffman in the future, projecting him to 197 is a real roll of the dice today. Hoffman and Garcia were/are both 170 freshmen.

Dude's got length. Wrestled some 170 this year, I believe. I know when Rasheed graduates. Been Team Rasheed my whole life. Didn't know redshirts were mandatory. Sorry, Nick Lee. It's Pipher time!
