Travis Wittlake ...

Sure seem to have no clue about a lot of PA wrestlers.

It's true. I don't follow a lot of HS wrestling. I've seen a couple matches of Hoffman. Woodley, the VA kid, and maybe that's it. He looks... fine. I don't follow a lot of HS wrestling. Not sure why anyone would unless you had a kid in it. I'd watch more if he committed to PSU. Ferrari caught my eye as the only freshman in the nation ranked past 120 or so. Looked up some of his matches and was impressed.

Part of me was genuinely asking about Hoffman because of the matches I watched. The responses are hilariously insecure (PA kid) and I'm running with it.

Not too much about Travis in this thread. :)

Prospects of getting Hoffman are exciting. Can't wait to see if Cael can land this stud. Anyone know if he has a college shortlist. Thanks in advance.

Hoffman is awesome.

Methinks Cole Urbas is gonna be pretty good too
Urbas has taken a huge step forward this year. Beating a D1 recruit who has been nationally ranked (Peck) was impressive. He's still undefeated, right? If so, guessing he'll be the favorite at NW Regionals. Tough weight at Hershey, though, with 2 national top 5 guys in Stefanik and Bonaccorsi.

Long-term, maybe a 2x state champ? Many of the top AAA 182 and 195 guys graduate this year.

I for one can't wait to see Wittlake in blue/white.

Hoffman's keeping his college list close to the vest. I'm sure he's hearing from a lot of guys. Bucknell has to be on the list with Garrett there.

You may be giving yourself too much credit here. I think the tone of the responses was more about your limited knowledge of Hoffman (which to your credit, you now admit), and less about Hoffman being from PA. I don't know much about Hoffman either, but one look at the Intermit or Flo high school rankings indicates that he's pretty highly regarded. Also, the "tweener" statement about Hoffman, which you have yet to explain, didn't help your cause any. That statement is completely unrelated to Hoffman's state of residence.

So you maybe had fun with it, but perhaps not for the reason you thought.

Wittlake pinned his semifinal opponent, #5 seed Carter Dahl, at the 1:00 mark.

He'll face #2 seed James Ellis in the finals. Ellis has had a nice run so far, with a pin at 1:12 in R1, a pin at 1:10 in the quarters, and a pin at 5:00 in the semis. It somewhat worked out for him, in that he faced an unseeded guy in R1, faced an unseeded guy in the quarters that upset the #7 seed, and faced an unseeded guy in the semis that upset the #3 seed in the quarters.

So I imagine Travis will keep his weight down to 76KG for UWW Cadets this offseason. Won't see him at around his college weight until next season.

They are in the finals, but it is brutally slow. They are running matches on 5 mats. They are set up as follows:

Mat 1 - 4A Final
Mat 2 - 3A Final
Mat 3 - 21/1A Final
Mat 4 - 6A Final
Mat 5 - 5A Final

They do the same weight class on all the mats. They will not advance to the next weight class until all the finals on the mats are completed.

Makes for a long evening, especially when your interest is in a 170 lbs. match.

Oregon 170 lbs. 4A Final

#1 seed Travis Wittlake (Jr., 37-0) vs. #2 seed James Ellis (Fr, 33-1)

As with the others HS matches I've reported on this weekend, I'm following this on Track, and as such have no idea about moves, OOB calls, stalemate calls, etc.

Per 1:
Wittlake gets an early TD, 2-0. Appears he rode out Ellis for the period, and Ellis was hit with a stalling call during the period.

Per 2:
Wittlake defered, and Ellis took top. Wittlake got hit with a caution. He then escaped, 3-0. He then got a TD, 5-0, and then Ellis got an esc, 5-1. Wittlake then got another TD, 7-1, and Ellis got an esc, 7-2. Wittlake then got another TD, 9-2. That's how it ended.

Per 3:
Wittlake took bottom. He got a reversal, 11-2. Ellis was hit with another stalling, 12-2. Ellis got an esc, 12-3. Then a Wittlake TD, 14-3. Then an Ellis esc, 14-4. Then Track's dashboard showed a video, and I missed the rest of the match. The final was an 18-5 major, so Travis Wittlake, Jr. repeats as State Champion, and wins the 2017 Oregon 4A 170 lbs. Championship!!!
