TRIVIA......Which team went UNDEFEATED in 1951 and did NOT play in a Bowl Game?

shameful on the part of the bowls
Why use the plural for bowls? The story is about the Orange Bowl. Their current story that two higher ranked teams were invited can probably be supported and I would guess a small West Coast school was lower ranked.

However, the USF version of events is probably more the reality of the 50's and early 60's. Penn State had its own problem with the Cotton Bowl, if my memory is correct. Spring training baseball was the same thing - Bill White had stories about him and Bob Gibson dealing with the same issues.

Shows how far we have come in 65 years - hard to believe that was the attitude of the time.

At least Bill didn't have to deal with that much in his home town of Warren, Ohio (my old home town as well) while growing up, as well as when attending college at nearby Hiram. His best friend from Warren and Basketball teammate at Hiram College was my neighbor and pediatrician, John Vlad. Dr. Vlad used to transport Bill to and from college all the time since Bill had no transportation. A far cry from the pampered college athletes nowadays. Over the years they have remained good friends and Bill used to invite the Vlads to Spring training where they got to rub elbows with celebrities and Major League Baseball players.

The south, however, was a different story back in those days. It's hard to believe how bad things were back then and since I was never exposed to the southern ways as a child I never had a clue of what was going on until I got to high school and learned about the old south in history class. I still remember thinking how could people be like that!
