US Open

Question I always forget to ask. What goes into wrestling under titan mercury? Do all those guys literally train together somewhat frequently, or is it more of a sponsor thing that doesn’t really compare to the nlwc, and Ohio rtc? Also would that be something the staff wouldn’t allow if someone wrestled at NLWC and had titan mercury sponsor them?
There is a brick and mortar Titan Mercury Wrestling Club in California. I know they do youth there, but not sure any senior guys train there or how frequently.

Most athletes are sponsored by them (I forget who the big-wig is that bankrolls TMWC... I though they had something to do with Milwaukee Tool?) Many RTC's tend to have athletes sponsored by certain sponsor-centric clubs (IE: Cliff Keen WC and NYAC, Arizona State guys with Sunkist Kids, Minnesota guys generally wrestle for the Storm, and a gigantic chunk of the country wrestles under TMWC). In fact, many times you'll see this listed by their name in things (IE: Logan Massa, Cliff Keen WC/TMWC). I've started to see that creep into youth/HS a bit, too. You'll see a kids name, their hometown club, and then the super club that they attend as well. It's an interesting deal.

Long story short, I don't think many SR guys actually train in CA at TMWC, but I'm sure a few do here and there. Most are simply getting payment to represent them, which is ****ing awesome.

Second to last note: Storm Up!

Last note: Anybody know what happened to Gator WC? Thought it was a OK-centric club from back in the day?

How does Spencer get the 1 seed? I am in no way shape or form trying to take a dig, he is a generational talent, and it has been a pleasure watching his career from elementary to the collegiate level. But there is usually a criteria for seeding. Does Spencer have any senior level results? If not, I don’t see the justification for being the 1. Like I said, he’s a tremendous talent, and the favorite for some to win it, I just don’t agree with him being 1 ( If there’s no senior level accomplishments ). If someone knows of any, I sit corrected.

Just guessing they assign some weight to the three age level championships along with the NCAA titles

The Wrestling Nomad seeded him 6th, which of course means nothing...

While I agree that those should definitely not be overlooked, I would think senior level competition would hold more weight. As the old saying goes, seeds don’t matter, still have to beat the man across from you, not the number in front of the name. Just found it interesting and was looking for others thoughts.

Great, thanks for the in depth response

Medically....

or more specifically, his surgeon.
Okay, so the reason for my question is there is no NCAA liability and no school liability to clearing a post-grad athlete. So, what, exactly does "cleared" to wrestle mean, and who requires the clearance in this situation? If the doctor says, "I don't think you should wrestle," who is stopping him from saying, "Okay, thanks for your input," and then going and wrestling? The question just sounds silly to me, for a post-grad.

I would think that most likely be his doctor.
See message 87. And, I'll add this... presumably more people know about injuries at PSU/NLWC, than with a post-grad. If we don't hear anything in the former situation, why should we think we'll get that info in the latter?

Well sorry if you think it was a silly question. Of course the final decision is up to the person, but doctors clear people for activities all the time. Going against your doctors advice could mean a debilitating injury, or not.

and, as graduates, people have twitter and such where they post things, he posted about his surgery there. But I am not checking social media all the time, so I was wondering if someone else saw something.

Maybe cleared is too specific, how about, does anyone know Nico’s surgery recovery timetable? Is that better?

So, I still stand by my question, despite you thinking it is silly. Of course I find your objection to my question a bit silly. But oh well..

Doctors "clear" people for activities where a governing body requires a clearance. (NCAA has rules regarding clearance, for instance.) Otherwise, they tell people the risks and people decide for themselves whether they are "clear" or not.

To me, there is a clear distinction between "Is Berge cleared to wrestle?" and "Is Nico recovered from surgery?" NCAA requires certain protocol for Berge, but only Nico's decision is required for the other.

No offense intended, and I apologize for offending you with my silly take on the subject.

I will now be more precise.

Has anyone either spoken with Nico, read his social media posts, or listened to any possible podcasts that would give an indication of what advice Nico’s doctors have given him about continuing his wrestling activities?

by the lack of response, other than the criticism of the wording of my post, I would say no one knows when he will resume. I will now end my part of this discussion so it doesn’t become some endless back and forth series of posts like a few others I have read recently.

Nico put a post up and basically said he will be back after the new year. It’s on Instagram

Awfully wordy, just to ask if Nico's been cleared or not.

I only saw the pre-seeds,with registrations still open, how are they seeding this already?

It’s called “PRE” for a reason. Everything has always been pre-seeded. Big tens are pre-seeded. People drop out because they can’t make weight
And walk-ins are allowed, if that is the correct and precise terminology. The preseeds are for the internet registrations that were cut off a few days ago.

Does anyone know if Nolf has been cleared? ;)

It's actually a serious question. I cancelled my Flo subscription at the end of last season, but I'd consider re-upping just to see Nolf wrestle.

who said Cenzo isn’t going? Are you going based off pre-seeds? He can still register as a walk in

True, maybe he's making a last minute decision. I guess I just thought he may have registered when the other PSU guys did. Anyone else hear anything?

His doctor sent a nice note to the tournament director for the US Open.

It's obviously Silly Season.

Especially for the Wailer fans out there.

I have a question about travel, housing and entry fees. Is this on the wrestler (and families) or NLWC, and is the answer different for a NCAA wrestler, ie Cassar or Brooks, versus a post grad?

Thanks Mr. Brooks, I thought that might be the answer for post grads but wasn’t sure if there was a different answer for someone like your son, currently on an active NCAA roster.
