Utah- USC

But the point is legit--we need a real playoff. 4 teams isn't enough--it's not even close to enough

They actually look like the best team in the country tonight, which is why it’s absurd that there isn’t a real playoffs yet.
I would still pick GA, MI or maybe Bama over Utah. But other than that, Utah is tough. Very well-coached as well.

Let’s hope Penn State plays someone else. No one is beating Utah in the Rose Bowl this year.
This is a championship game, the Rose Bowl is just a glorified scrimmage (that’s what I keep reading on here), so they won’t be nearly as motivated.

They’re playing the 91st ranked defense, let’s keep some perspective.
No doubt...but Utah is a really good team that has arguably the most underrated coach of the last decade or so. USC has FAR more talent and Utah beat them twice. Should PSU make the rose bowl vs utah, it would be a very tough game.

Absolutely, but I don’t think Utah has played against a really good defense this year. I don’t know if we would win or not, but the hype on this board about Utah because of this game is a bit overblown. Every game is different and what happens in one has no effect on another.

Yup good point every game is different and the transitive property doesn't apply in sports… but stylistically, the way utah plays, how it's so reminiscent of Michigan, physical teams that dominated the line of scrimmage… all I'm saying is stylistically they are a bad match up for a typical James team…. but again just like you said every game has its own life.

They only scored 17 points against Oregon and 21 against Washington State, so they didn’t dominate the line of scrimmage too much in those games.

I don’t think that they are the best team, but they played tonight as well as any team that I’ve seen this year. My main point was that they could’ve beaten a UGA or Michigan tonight, and it’s just a shame that both PSU and Utah, as well as several other teams, don’t have a chance in an expanded playoffs.

I would not put money on a favorite in this year's CFP. Even Georgia could get beat.

Epic as in Georgia kicking their heads in? Because the Buckeyes are going to get drilled if that game happens. If the Buckeyes thought Michigan was physical, just wait until they have to deal with Georgia’s lines.
Let’s see UGA deal with OSU’s offensive skill, which they didn’t see too much this season in the SEC except for the Vols.

They were losing 17-3 before Williams got hurt. Could have been a USC blow out had that not happened.

Could have still been an easy SC win if that coach doesn't force that kid to play on 1 leg.

You know what this game reminded me of?
Most are too young to remember, but the 1988 National Championship game, when Don Nehlen forced Major Harris to play with a separated shoulder from the 5 minutes mark of the first quarter...all game long, and ND won easily.

We’ve heard that before - then the SEC team with NFL talent all over their D proceeds to hammer the flashy offensive team.

Lincoln "win at all costs" Riley. 20 transfer portal rent a players. And he makes his starting qb play on 1 leg for 3 quarters.

This loss is on him.
I think that he totally was negligent in keeping Williams in there for as long as he did while risking a further, possibly career-threatening injury when he couldn’t protect himself. I guess he’ll just have to have the old Hollywood sycophants shell out more money to get some more ringers and mercenaries.

Pretty much every coach would have played him….you don’t sit a Heisman leading candidate if he can go. And maybe their backup isn’t good enough to lead them to a win…not many teams have two QB’s good enough to win a Heisman.

A Heisman trophy winner with one leg, is the same as any other player with one leg.

Utah will be much more motivated to win the Rose Bowl than whoever they end up playing against.

I would think a Penn State team that began unranked, and was a consensus 8-4 team, would be plenty motivated to win the Rose Bowl also

If ifs and buts were candy and nuts what a wonderful Christmas we would all have. You realize Utah rang up 47 points on SC right? Williams didn’t do diddly after the 1st quarter even before he got hurt.

It is always a lot better to beat the best. High risk, high rewards. Our best decade was when we played Alabama and Notre Dame. Beat Utah and we end in the top 5.

The other side of this is that USC got run off the field on defense and thisbgame was not the 1st time it happened this year. Yes, Williams is a very good player but he needs help on the defensive side and if you go back and look at Lincoln Riley's teams at Oklahoma it was the same story - absolutely no defense.

If we'd have won against OSU they'd put Bama in even with two losses because of the way Michigan beat us and OSU. Saying that embarrassing loss is too much to overcome vs close losses in the tough SEC. The same thought pattern and rules don't apply to OSU, so they're in because everyone knows how great and deserving they are.
I could be wrong, but sadly I believe that Michigan will old school steam roll all of them. No Corum hurts them but they are not playing the offense that teams are made to stop. Maybe Georgia has the horses, but athletes alone isn't enough.
