But the point is legit--we need a real playoff. 4 teams isn't enough--it's not even close to enough
I would still pick GA, MI or maybe Bama over Utah. But other than that, Utah is tough. Very well-coached as well. They actually look like the best team in the country tonight, which is why it’s absurd that there isn’t a real playoffs yet.
Shocking that you would post that…of course you would post the same thing if we were playing Boston College in a bowl game.Psu wants no part of Utah won’t be close
The also lost to UCLA and Oregon. They're a really good team just not Georgia/Michigan levelBut that was the first game. I think PSU would have a much easier time with Purdue if they played again.
This is a championship game, the Rose Bowl is just a glorified scrimmage (that’s what I keep reading on here), so they won’t be nearly as motivated.Let’s hope Penn State plays someone else. No one is beating Utah in the Rose Bowl this year.
No doubt...but Utah is a really good team that has arguably the most underrated coach of the last decade or so. USC has FAR more talent and Utah beat them twice. Should PSU make the rose bowl vs utah, it would be a very tough game. They’re playing the 91st ranked defense, let’s keep some perspective.
Isn’t that what penn state wants? It will be nice matchup a would be a nice winNo doubt...but Utah is a really good team that has arguably the most underrated coach of the last decade or so. USC has FAR more talent and Utah beat them twice. Should PSU make the rose bowl vs utah, it would be a very tough game.
Absolutely, but I don’t think Utah has played against a really good defense this year. I don’t know if we would win or not, but the hype on this board about Utah because of this game is a bit overblown. Every game is different and what happens in one has no effect on another. No doubt...but Utah is a really good team that has arguably the most underrated coach of the last decade or so. Yup good point every game is different and the transitive property doesn't apply in sports… but stylistically, the way utah plays, how it's so reminiscent of Michigan, physical teams that dominated the line of scrimmage… all I'm saying is stylistically they are a bad match up for a typical James team…. but again just like you said every game has its own life.Absolutely, but I don’t think Utah has played against a really good defense this year. Wonder if he tore a ligament. Bet he surgery next week.Caleb Williams can't move and is a sitting duck if he can't get the pass off quickly. He has no mobility and it's tough to watch him.
They only scored 17 points against Oregon and 21 against Washington State, so they didn’t dominate the line of scrimmage too much in those games.Yup good point every game is different and the transitive property doesn't apply in sports… but stylistically, the way utah plays, how it's so reminiscent of Michigan, physical teams that dominated the line of scrimmage… all I'm saying is stylistically they are a bad match up for a typical James team…. but again just like you said every game has its own life.
I don’t think that they are the best team, but they played tonight as well as any team that I’ve seen this year. My main point was that they could’ve beaten a UGA or Michigan tonight, and it’s just a shame that both PSU and Utah, as well as several other teams, don’t have a chance in an expanded playoffs.I would still pick GA, MI or maybe Bama over Utah. But other than that, Utah is tough. Very well-coached as well.
Epic as in Georgia kicking their heads in? Because the Buckeyes are going to get drilled if that game happens. If the Buckeyes thought Michigan was physical, just wait until they have to deal with Georgia’s lines.UGA-OSU should be an epic game.
I would not put money on a favorite in this year's CFP. Even Georgia could get beat.I don’t think that they are the best team, but they played tonight as well as any team that I’ve seen this year. My main point was that they could’ve beaten a UGA or Michigan tonight, and it’s just a shame that both PSU and Utah, as well as several other teams, don’t have a chance in an expanded playoffs.
No doubt we would in …..IF!One has to wonder if those final nine minutes against Ohio State go differently... Penn State may a playoff team right now.
Well maybe Penn State should have had its 1st string defense on the field for that 4th quarter Ohio State 3 play drive instead of 2 backup d linemen, Sutherland, and only 2 of the 4 starting d backs. One has to wonder if those final nine minutes against Ohio State go differently... Penn State may a playoff team right now.
Let’s see UGA deal with OSU’s offensive skill, which they didn’t see too much this season in the SEC except for the Vols.Epic as in Georgia kicking their heads in? They were losing 17-3 before Williams got hurt. Could have been a USC blow out had that not happened.I don’t think that they are the best team, but they played tonight as well as any team that I’ve seen this year. Could have still been an easy SC win if that coach doesn't force that kid to play on 1 leg. They were losing 17-3 before Williams got hurt. Could have been a USC blow out had that not happened.
We’ve heard that before - then the SEC team with NFL talent all over their D proceeds to hammer the flashy offensive team.Let’s see UGA deal with OSU’s offensive skill, which they didn’t see too much this season in the SEC except for the Vols.
Then had him in down 23 on the last series and was calling timeoutLincoln "win at all costs" Riley. 20 transfer portal rent a players. And he makes his starting qb play on 1 leg for 3 quarters.
This loss is on him.
We’ll see in the next few days. What about how many Utah players sit out? They have way more seniors than PSU does.
I think that he totally was negligent in keeping Williams in there for as long as he did while risking a further, possibly career-threatening injury when he couldn’t protect himself. I guess he’ll just have to have the old Hollywood sycophants shell out more money to get some more ringers and mercenaries.Lincoln "win at all costs" Riley. 20 transfer portal rent a players. And he makes his starting qb play on 1 leg for 3 quarters.
This loss is on him.
Pretty much every coach would have played him….you don’t sit a Heisman leading candidate if he can go. And maybe their backup isn’t good enough to lead them to a win…not many teams have two QB’s good enough to win a Heisman.Could have still been an easy SC win if that coach doesn't force that kid to play on 1 leg.
You know what this game reminded me of?
Most are too young to remember, but the 1988 National Championship game, when Don Nehlen forced Major Harris to play with a separated shoulder from the 5 minutes mark of the first quarter...all game long, and ND won easily.
A Heisman trophy winner with one leg, is the same as any other player with one leg.Pretty much every coach would have played him….you don’t sit a Heisman leading candidate if he can go. And maybe their backup isn’t good enough to lead them to a win…not many teams have two QB’s good enough to win a Heisman.
Utah will be much more motivated to win the Rose Bowl than whoever they end up playing against. This is a championship game, the Rose Bowl is just a glorified scrimmage (that’s what I keep reading on here), so they won’t be nearly as motivated.
Yeah like the Guy in your Pic.Kyle W is a really good coach...his teams are physical, rugged, and keep their poise.
I would think a Penn State team that began unranked, and was a consensus 8-4 team, would be plenty motivated to win the Rose Bowl alsoUtah will be much more motivated to win the Rose Bowl than whoever they end up playing against.
Waaa. Waaa. Waaa I didn’t realize Williams played defense. They were losing 17-3 before Williams got hurt. Could have been a USC blow out had that not happened.
If ifs and buts were candy and nuts what a wonderful Christmas we would all have. You realize Utah rang up 47 points on SC right? Williams didn’t do diddly after the 1st quarter even before he got hurt.Could have still been an easy SC win if that coach doesn't force that kid to play on 1 leg.
You know what this game reminded me of?
Most are too young to remember, but the 1988 National Championship game, when Don Nehlen forced Major Harris to play with a separated shoulder from the 5 minutes mark of the first quarter...all game long, and ND won easily.
Ohio State is a LOCK now. You are 100 % correct. One has to wonder if those final nine minutes against Ohio State go differently... Penn State may a playoff team right now.
With all of the smoker and bbq talk here this made me think of a Horned Frog brisket....yuckBama isn’t getting in unless TCU gets smoked
Unless Purdue, ah, never mind, 😀Crank up the bus and get those 🌹 bowl tickets ready
It is always a lot better to beat the best. High risk, high rewards. Our best decade was when we played Alabama and Notre Dame. Beat Utah and we end in the top 5.No Alabama Utah is a really good team that has arguably the most underrated coach of the last decade or so. USC has FAR more talent and Utah beat them twice. Should PSU make the rose bowl vs utah, it would be a very tough game.
The other side of this is that USC got run off the field on defense and thisbgame was not the 1st time it happened this year. Yes, Williams is a very good player but he needs help on the defensive side and if you go back and look at Lincoln Riley's teams at Oklahoma it was the same story - absolutely no defense. They were losing 17-3 before Williams got hurt. Could have been a USC blow out had that not happened.
Hamstring injury.Wonder if he tore a ligament. Bet he surgery next week.
You mean both defenses were atrocious. Both offenses look scary good so far.
