Verkleeren to PSU

2019.

And you can bet Cael will have some serious questions about this incident:

Honestly, it took me three attempts to actually note the 'head butt' because it seemed so incidental. Appeared to me to be an intimidation move gone bad when he got too close. As for the second penalty, I didn't know that chest pumping and yelling to the crowd was taunting. Maybe it is in high school in MD. I really don't know.
Agree, didn't see anything in the video that should be a concern. Heck PSU has a few guys now who play to the crowd at times. Probably a bigger concern regarding McHenry is the fact that he is at 106 as a Sophomore, will he be big enough for a college 125 pounder? He still has 2 years of high school and a red-shirt year.

Which lines up pretty darn well w Nails time in the lineup.

Cause i just have a feeling buseillo isnt a 125.

Sounded like the adult coach fanned the flames - at least that's what the story alludes to and some people on TheMat that were there said.

Great find!

Skip to 13:15 of the interview -- Verk on the challenge he faces at PSU: "I embrace it. It's definitely exciting. A lot of the other colleges, I could've taken the easy route and had a pretty easy spot to get on the team, but this is gonna be fun."

Competing for a spot is f@& ? There goes that narrative.

He sounds like a fun guy :)

PSU/NLWC had 8 guys place top 5 among Juniors and Seniors (freestyle) last weekend, plus a 9th - Manville - take a greco World Team spot.

1. PSU: 9, 3 champs (Anvil, Taylor, Hall)
2. OHST: 5, 1 champ (Pletcher, (plus 2 world golds sitting at home))
3. ASU: 6, 2 champs (JO, Zahid)
4. OKST: 5, 2 champs (Fix, Marsden)
5. MINN: 5, 2 champs (McKee, Steveson)
6. IOWA: 5, 0 champs

And here's a fun look back at senior freestyle rankings, after the 2009 world team trials. Shocking how different things are, not just from the undergrad schools represented, but the "club" teams in particular.
Jordan Oliver went to Oklahoma State.

Playing up to the crowd didn't bother me. The head butt did. Classic sorry not sorry juvenile cheap shot (though I do think the opponent and bench oversold it). Not a red flag yet, but a mistake to not be repeated.

As far as adults fanning the flames goes: no D1 coach has ever gotten emotional on the mat, right? Certainly not Brands or Manning.

If he learns better composure, he looks like an awesome successor for Suriano.

Nice to read that you boys are very happy and heck yes u should be.. All this domination by u r team will save me lots of money. Mom didn't raise no dumb boy here... When a team can 20 deep no way will I travel and spend around $1,200 dollars for hotel, tickets, and food.
When you know in advance there is no way anyone else can come close to make it interesting. Enjoy enjoy and live it up my time has come and gone and I had a great fun time also.,

tOSU fans don't agree, they think they're the frontrunners. Just sayin.

They are talking about frontrunners for second place, I think. ;) Just kidding. Minny's comment about skipping nationals sort of confirms my suspicion that a good portion of Iowa fans don't really like wrestling that much, they just enjoyed being king of the hill. If I am not mistaken, Cael in eight years at PSU has equaled the total number of championships Iowa has won in the 20 years since Gable retired. And Brands, unless something totally unforeseen occurs, will have a poorer success rate at Nationals than did Zalesky (3 titles in 11 years vs. Zalensky's 3 in 10).

Zalesky coached 9 years at Iowa, if I'm not mistaken, and the 8th, 2nd, 7th, 4th NCAA finishes his last 4 seasons, as well as the 4th and 6th place finishes his last 2 years at B1G's, were not acceptable to most associated with Iowa wrestling. Brands hasn't had a team do worse than 5th, except his 1st year. Slightly better overall, which has earned him some time.

Plus, Zalesky was left a powerful team by Gable. He did not leave the same for Brands.

But Brands had the double recruiting class added to the inherited team in his second year. I guess Zalesky won 3 in 9, whereas Brands will be hitting 3 in 11 years in less than a year, with none in 8 years and only a share of one B1G title in those 8 years. Idk, hard to understand why Brands isn't on the hot seat.

Count me among those that see tOSU as a legitimate threat next year. They've got 4 legitimate title shots: Tomasello, B Jordan, Moore and Snyder. They have strong prospects of top 4 in M Jordan, Martin. They have significant scoring potential in Hayes and could get some points from Rodriguez and Campbell. I certainly wouldn't favor them, but if there are injuries and some unexpected results . . .I wouldn't count them out.

Yay, the double class discussion!

Moore has to be the preseason #1 at 197, coming into the season. This would give Ohio State two consensus #1's and possibly 3, including Tomasello. This is a formidable lineup.

Ohio State will probably have their best team ever. At the end of the season I believe the nature nuts will have a very legitimate claim to the title of best, second best team in NCAA wrestling history.

This will allow Delaney and the Big10 to have a celebratory dinner acknowledging the Nature Nut achievement.

If Michigan finishes 3rd the conference can add some Woody Bo trophies while proclaiming the OSU and UofM as true representives of Big10 academic and athletic excellence.

He's a great coach. I hope they keep him in place there until he's at least 80 years old. They have a great coach. The best. They should keep him.

And show highlights of "The Game" from April until the Ohio State Michigan Football preseason shows start August 1. Of course they will make room for a week of osu/um spring game highlights.......sort of a spring break like event.
