Villanova estimates 2016 national championship was worth over $1 billion to school

O.....M......G

Funniest post in months

Who are they trying to kid? And why?

I would hope folks WOULD actually (critically) read the article.
As utterly ridiculous as the Villanova ICA contention is - - the article does (maybe inadvertently) point out a few of the more important "hypocrisies" (a better word might be "lies") that Infest Universities (and especially ICAs at Universities)

LOL!!! One Billion dollars? Where did CBS gets its information from " The Onion".

Impossible. I've been informed that basketball doesn't matter, and coaches get lifetime contracts.

Vast majority of what they count as $$$$$ is the value of the PR/Media mentions. Of course, they would NEVER actually spend that much money on TV advertising so that number is ridiculous. But Nova has seen a 22% increase in applications this year and have been able to actively fundraise for the $65 million they are spending on renovating the Pavilion. Single donor gave about $22 million. Made another million or so from increased merch sales post championship.

That's all terrific, but it's stiill quite a bit short of a billion.

That's absurd. And I'm saying that as a Villanova alum.

I'd love to see how much of that 'billion' could be converted to actual, spendable greenbacks. My guess is, not too many.

If it is, the place should be tuition free for the next hundred years or so.

And if I'm Jay, I'm having a sit down with Father Peter.

Winning is irrelevant. Hiring only coaches with connections to your school or home town, is everything.

You seem to repeatedly make the case that Chambers was hired because a couple of his siblings went to Penn State. Simply ridiculous. Perhaps some familiarity with Penn State made Chambers want the job, clearly one of the most difficult jobs in a Power 5 conference, so a Chambers family connection indirectly was a good thing for Penn State. But the Chambers family had no influence in Curley's decision.
