"W" is a "W", so don't get me wrong... I'm not a big moral win kind of guy, but I do understand how hard it is to win from week to week. It's tough... just look at Wiscy. However, our lack or slow to adjust with success OR failure on both sides of the ball is still shocking to me.

Just some game breakdown #'s:

Pass (top performers):
  • Patterson: 24/41 | 276 total yds | 6.7 avg | 0 TD/1 Interception
  • Clifford: 14/25 | 182 total yds | 7.3 avg | 3 TD/0 Interception
Patterson clearly outplayed Clifford with more sustained drives and 3rd down conversions. However, for better or worse, living by the sword, Clifford without question had more explosive plays yielding greater returns - 3 TDs. However, living off those plays are great when they work, you win, but I'd prefer the more regular 3rd conversions, long drives, eating up time, beating down the opposing defense and putting points on the board. Of course, knocking out a few big plays is always good... just don't like relying on them so much.

Rush (top performers):
  • UM: 41/141 | 3.4 avg | 3 TD | 14 yds (Longest)
    • Charbonnet: 15/81 | 2 TD | 5.4 avg | 14 yds (Long)
    • Patterson: 12/34 | 1 TD | 2.8 avg | 13 yds (Long)
  • PSU: 29/101 | 3.5 avg | 1 TD | 44 yds (Longest)
    • RSlade: 3/48 | 0 TD | 16.0 avg | 44 yds (Long)
    • JBrown: 4/19 | 0 TD | 4.8 avg | 11 yds (Long)
    • NCain: 5/19 | 0 TD | 3.8 avg | 13 yds (Long)
    • SClifford: 11/17 | 1 TD | 1.5 avg | 10 (Long)
Charbonnet almost equaled ALL of our backs, including Clifford. IMHO, CJF's willingness to play all backs, or lack of a goto guy is for two reasons... keeping as many on board so they don't jump to the portal, and using the 'everyone plays' to attract new RB recruits. I get it... he's trying to have it both ways, which I get, but still unclear if it'll be a long-term detriment or positive for the team.

Receiving (top performers):
  • UM: 24/276 | 11.5 avg | 0 TD | 35 yds (Longest)
    • NCollins: 6/89 | 0 TD | 14.8 avg | 30 yds (Long)
    • RBell: 4/71 | 0 TD | 17.8 avg | 35 yds (Long)
    • NEubanks: 4/47 | 0 TD | 11.8 avg | 19 yds
    • DPeople-Jones: 5/46 | 0 TD | 9.2 avg | 19 yds (Long)
  • PSU: 14/182 | 13.0 avg | 3 TD | 53 yds (Longest)
    • KJHamler: 6/108 | 2 TD | 18.0 avg | 53 yds (Long)
    • JDotson: 1/37 | 0 TD | 37 yds | 37 yds (Long)
    • PFreirmuth: 3/28 | 1 TD | 9.3 avg | 17 yds (Long)
I'm still NOT sold that we have more receivers than KJ and Freirmuth (tongue/cheek)... I would prefer to spread the ball around more and taking advantage of those not named KJ or Freirmuth when you know defenses will be keying in on those two - C'mon man! Most likely a void due to both Clifford's inaccuracies and everyone else not named KJ or Freirmuth unable to get open/separation.

Just my own armchair observations from a PSU grad that bleeds blue & white... I know there's many more on here with a more experienced lens which I always appreciate reading.
