The first half was a very messy one for both teams. Penn State turned the ball over 17 times on 40 possessions and only put up 24 points. To put that into perspective, the Lady Lions have averaged 16.3 turnovers per game through their first three games of the season.
Princeton was unable to capitalize on the offensive struggles of the Lady Lions and found itself trailing going into the half by a score of 24-21.
While the Tigers didn’t turn the ball over nearly as much as Penn State, they couldn’t get anything to fall from the field, shooting only 23 percent in the first half.
Teniya Page got into a bit of a rhythm as the half came to an end, getting a mid range jumper to fall and then forcing a turnover with under 10 seconds that led to two free throws for herself at the other end.
That rhythm carried into the second half as Page started to take the game into her own hands, especially on the offensive end. Page led the Lady Lions in scoring with points.
Princeton came out of the locker room with an improved offensive look as well. After shooting just 1-10 from beyond the arc in the previous half, the Tigers started the second half 5-6 from deep and took control of the game.
Princeton dominated the third quarter, putting up 24 points and taking an eight point lead on the back of forward Gabrielle Rush.
Rush shot the three-ball extremely well and put up 20 points in the game.
After the third quarter it really looked like the Tigers were in control of the game, but the Lady Lions ramped up their defensive effort and attention to detail on the offensive end which led to their victory in the end.
