Mt Dora FL
In 2017 and 2018, both the offense and defense gave up 4th quarter leads to lose a ballgame. Saturday, our defense said, hell no, with a first and goal on our one yard line. Now we need the offense to play as tough when the game is on the line. We gave away two games each to MSU and OSU because poor 4th quarter play. Great job defense especially Cam. They refused to lose.

This is totally unrelated to your post, Mary, but you know how some places are named for famous explorers, like Columbus, or Hudson Bay, or Raleigh? Is your location, Mt. Dora, named after Dora The Explorer?
Just funnin' with you Mary. And I agree with your post. The offense has to step up and win one when the chips are down.

Mt Dora is a misnomer. There are no mountains in FL. Mt Dora is on Lake Dora and much of it is in a bluff about 50 ft above lake level. It is one of the most visited towns in FL. A touch of New England deep in the south.

I'm not sure the level of competition provides validity to this observation. Ohio State (twice), Michigan State (twice), Appalachian State (last year), and a few others simply shredded the Penn State defense in the 4th quarter. Their QBs simply couldn't miss a receiver and had no pressure on them.

I don't know that Idaho, Buffalo, or Pitt rise to that level of competition. On the other hand, Idaho, Buffalo, and Pitt revealed early-game lack of readiness and poor coaching preparedness that Ohio State, Michigan State, and even Maryland next week will use to run up 4-TD leads at halftime.

You can look at all the stats you want - Rush/pass yards allowed, sacks, etc, but in the end the only stat that matters is Scoring Defense. That's not to say there isn't plenty of room for improvement.

That’s a good point- they did step up on that goal line stand and didn’t collapse like some games last year. The only caveat is that it was against Pitt, not Ohio St or Michigan. ;)

This defense is looking really special. Making tons of mistakes as expected at this stage, but they are already very tough to score on.

As disappointing as the O has looked, this D is going to be wonderful. And Maryland is a really good test for them with a lot of speed.

Was happy to see them step up at the 1 yd line. But the ball never should have gotten that far. There shouldn't have been 1st and goal from the 1. That's a big problem.

I went to the Mt. Dora Arts festival this past winter.

Here's what I've learned:

The issues that were highlighted on this board last year, over and over again, are still with us this year. Some here are happy with that, or at least can rationalize it.

Hmmmmm.... last I checked, MSU ran up a total of 7 points at home against ASU and MD throttled Temple with a total of 17 points.

We might lose one or both of those games, but I am very confident that neither team will run up 4td lead on us at halftime.

It's probably fair to say that the defense is deeper with talent, and LB play has improved. With all the substitutions to date the depth should have some experience as well. The next step is for the offense to sustain drives and eat clock.

My home is two miles from downtown. Tradition if breakfast st the Windsor Tea Room with my ex before the festival. It draws about 200,000 over two days. The craft festival draws about 150,000.
I did not know there were two festivals. We were in Florida from Jan to April. When is the other festival?

Oct 26 is the big craft festival. They have a smaller one after the art festival. Where do you winter?
Well, we will have to visit Mt. Dora again in October. For the last three years we visited my sister in Longwood. In March we bought a house in Apopka. We are heading back down this Sunday. My goal is to never again see the first frost in the fall, nor the last frost in the spring in Pennsylvania, nor anything in between those dates if I can help it.

If you miss the first frost you are likely missing the fall leaves, one of the most beautiful sights in the world. That is certainly worth a chilly morning or two.

Plenty of Fall leaves in the North Georgia mountains, the only thing I really miss from the NE is snow on (and only on) Christmas day - other than that this Damn Yankee is stayin' in the South...……...
