What happened to the Cecil the lion thread?

If he did what is alleged , he was poaching not hunting . He wasn't following the rules . Rape is a crime , consensual sex isn't.
I was laying out what normally goes on with legal African hunts . You can't compare poaching to hunting, it's two different things .

his non apology is very telling. crafted by a PR firm (hopefully not La Torre!). It is the equivalent of "I'm sorry I got caught"

he really falls into that same arrogant category of the PSU BoT: on the one hand, they tout how they run an outstanding institute of higher learning, then turn around and treat the alumni like we're idiots.

the guy has bragged incessantly for years about being a world class big game "hunter". then he tries to play all ignorant when sh*t goes sideways. someone with as much experience as he claims HAD TO KNOW this hunt was illegal.

Cecil is now on the menu at the Station Brake Cafe in Wilmerding, Pa.!

I'm sure the guy knew it was illegal , and if it was he's a poacher not a hunter .

Can't we all just get along?

They eat lion, all forms of deer, antelope , giraffes . It's usually tradition that the meat is donated to the locals . Oftentimes they have a big feast .
Personally I've eaten deer, elk, bison, rattle snake , ostrich, bear, moose, and a few others .
People are saying , " I never ate ..... "Without realizing it. Normally the whole animal is used.
Taste like chicken?

cmon fellas we can multitask

you sound like the people who constantly cry, "what about the VICTIMS??" when we discuss Paterno's legacy.

Nope, just noting how outrage is selected. Kill a single lion that was given a name, oh the horror. Do you think the Lion knew it was a lion and that its name was Cecil?

Don't watch this if you don't want facts

Excellent video. Thanks Gitzit. If those who care about Lions and preservation of wild populations in general would take the time to watch it, maybe it would change a mind or two regarding the role of legal hunting in wildlife conservation. Or... will they be too busy and just accept the MEDIA NARRATIVE that all hunting of African (and other?) big game species is inherently a bad thing.

Reading this thread, it just dawned on me that our class tribute was "Born Free". First class to graduate from the Wyoming Valley West H.S.-had 720 kids in the class. Actually chocks me-up a little

It was good that you linked Born Free by Matt Monroe. Matt had as good a voice as anyone of his generation. Sadly, he died all to young, at age 55, in 1985.

Step, rattle snake is like great chicken as is alligator . Ostrich is s fantastic steak.

thank you elvis...you left it wide open..I couldn't resist. My father ate rattlers when we lived in Colorado he enjoyed it. My son, while supposedly studying at PSU in the mid 80's wondered to New Orleans with some friends for about a week and had alligator and several other delicacies he enjoyed all. I love calves' hearts the way my grandmother prepared and my wife made me her recipe several time in the early years when the hearts we easy to obtain at the market. haven't had hearts in two decades or more. I asked my wife if I could get some hearts if she would treat me..she frowned :( !

Can't you still get chicken and beef ones?

If we ate lions, there wouldn't be any outrage.

At one time, the Station served all kinds of exotic game as entrees and appetizers. Lion was on the menu. I presume it was domestically raised.

Love this song, have it on Neil Diamonds - I believe- "African Trilogy album". I'm a big Neil fan from the 60's. I had most of his albums but they were on vinyl. I don't have quite as many cd's.
leaving for the mountains...I'll check you fellows out tomorrow

The lady singing with the Tokens on the far left is Donna Groom of the Skyliners. Donna is an absolutely terrific singer, very attractive, and a real sweetheart.

chicken liver are great wrapped in bacon, never had chicken hearts. The calves hearts are difficult to obtain. I don't want beef hearts, the young hears are sweet and slightly tender but still chewy

The Bedford Hotel, Pa. has a sandwich on the menu "Gizz Sand". I had stopped for a beer and I said are those chicken gizzards and hearts? BT says yes. I ended up eating two. Beef hearts you either have to slow smoke/BBQ or chop up finely. I'll see if I can find my mom's recipe for gizz & hearts..it's in a buttery roux with onions and celery leaves, like a gravy.

So will this be like the rebel flag crap? Will the nutters demand Teddy Roosevelt be removed from Mt Rushmore since he went on a year long safari, killing all sorts of animals
