Listening to ESPNU radio this morning, someone mentioned that we were near the anniversary of when Andy Griffith's stand up bit about a small town bumpkin describing his seeing a football game for the first time. If you haven't heard this, it is really a treat! Much like the Who's on First bit from Abbott and Costello, it's really funny without having to use F bombs or whatever (although I enjoy blue humor a lot). Check this out:

Andy Griffith was an amazing talent (or his writers). I often wonder why the entertainment industry doesn't redo TV series like they do in movies. Perhaps the will & grace reboot will change that.

Regardless, I'd love to have a shot at bringing old episodes, The AG show case in point, up to date, recasting them, refilming them and distributing them. It would be a much lower cost and a lot lower risk.

I agree with the recycling part. Everything now is basically borrowed from a previous show, they just don't make it obvious. I've thought specifically about remaking older movies and who would star in various lead roles. I personally think that the Eiger Sanction would be perfect for a modern remake. I think the same about music. I'm a huge fan of classic country music and sometimes I hear an older country song and then try to imagine which current artist would be appropriate to remake it.

wow...eiger sanction...one of my favorite little known movies.

I think of something like Giligans Island. If you watch "Last Man on Earth" has a similar theme. So you could recast that, rewrite several episodes, and have a great show. I Dream of Genie, Dark Shadows, etc.

Jerry Clower was another old comedian/storyteller who talked football. He played defensive tackle at Miss St and played in the first game he ever saw.
I bought a CD of Jerry Clower's stories... he actually was some type of Ag related salesman after college and got to be so famous for telling his stories that people would have him speak at banquets, etc. He never set out to be a comedian, from how I remember the story.

The Eiger Sanction was a great movie with legendary actors. We also enjoy The Parallax View, another less know movie with a great plot. So many wonder movies that could be redone for an enjoyable double take.
