Where we stand with Recruits 2017/2018 10/22/16

I probably would have commented on this without the win on Saturday. There have been legitimate concerns that are not excuses. You should appreciate that you have Franklin prior to Saturday and now tough shit because your stuck with him! You have no more excuses

I have no idea what you are trying to say... who do you have concerns about? Who is making excuses? Who is stuck with whom? I honestly tried to piece everything together, but it's like there is something missing...

Its called schizophrenia. Lots of pieces from different puzzles do not a nice picture make

Please clarify to what this post refers.

Thanks bmw199

2018 4* OT Rasheed Walker from MD was also at the game. Was at Lasch Bash and does not yet have an offer.

BMW didn't believe that R.Walker had an offer. But apparently he does.....

Rutgers RB commit that visited this weekend. According to Rutgers fans he has visited several times and his gf goes to PSU. Wouldn't be surprised to see a quick flip.

Looks like CJF is intent on getting a RB in the 2017 class. Wouldn't be surprised if he offers another RB as well, as the high school season winds down and the staff continues to evaluate the later bloomers.

PSU has 16 spots available for sure. My guess is that 2 will leave and we'll wind up with 18. 14 have committed so far so that means 4 to go. There is definitely a spot for Wade and 1-2 LBs. Another DT wouldn't hurt either. No room for 2 RBs. Maybe 1 RB with versatility to also play safety.

(Possibly offering another RB to try and get 1 for the class)

I believe most here expect a class of around 20, and possibly up to 21 or 22.. Sorrell announced the end of his football career today, and there will be more attrition.

DB: 2 (CB & Safety to replace Pitts in the class)
LB: 1-2 (At least 1, but CJF may take 2 more from among Anthony, Proctor, and potentially Zandier, among the possibilities)
DL: 1-2 (At least one true DT and possibly another big DE)
RB: 0-1 (Looks like CJF wants a RB in the class if he can get a talented one)
WR: 1 (CJF definately wants a taller WR to complement the 2 WR's already committed)
TE: 0-1 (Will CJF find a TE late in the cycle as he did with Bowers 2 years ago? He offered additional TE's as the cycle has gone on and if he finds talent he will still try for one. He could hold on TE's until 2018 with all the talented TE's he has offered for 2018 and one already committed)
OL: 0-1 (I'm not convinced that if a top OT shows interest that CJF closes the door on OL, but OL class probably full)

That's likely at least 6 additional players in the 2017 class.

17 now. I see +/-4 more voluntary/mutual decisions to be made, and you can normally count on one bonehead a year (it would be great if that were not the case but it's normally how it goes). I think 21is where we'll end up.

Who might be next?

How about that big DT from Jersey?
Any 2017 commit would surprise me at this point. It's just unlikely as anyone uncommittted at the moment is in the heart of other visits. Now 2018, they are over a year away so anyone looking at it now may pull the trigger at any time.

Was hoping for some momentum from the biggest win in 11 years. Oh well.

...If we can somehow get Wade....

I think the first breakthrough was Sanders, now if we can just get Wade...

I think a 9 win season lands Wade, particularly if Pitt stumbles. He knows the future at Pitt is not all that bright in the near term.

Think of it like the Lasch Bash this year, Miles. Immediate gratification? No. Effective? Yes. Just watch, big dividends ahead. What happened on Saturday with 150 recruits present is the best recruiting tool imaginable.

I really have trouble seeing 21 but who knows. Sorrell was a surprise. I remember when Barnes left early and didn't get drafted. Will Godwin & Gesicki leave? Is it possible that a guy like Thrift was only promised 1 year?

2020 recruit: RB Blake Corum, Laurel MD. Toledo offered him in 8th grade. I guess we should remeber the name. He was present this weekend as well as earlier this year. Holy lightning! He is smallish at 5' 9, 180 but has years to grow. His freshman yr. higlights are on Hudl. Think Ray Rice with homerun speed.

There is the 2019 kid we offered already too. Jordan Houston. He is only 5'9" 168. So much time for both to grow.

Thrift was recruited to play in years 2017 and 2018. He is young and has grown much since leaving high school, where he played DE/LB. He came to PSU with 3 years of eligibility, as an athlete that will continue to grow and play DT in the FUTURE. Why would anyone believe he was only promised 1 year......

Chavis, on the other hand, was recruited to come in a play NOW, which he is.... This year and in 2017.

I'll go 19 altogether sir.

Just my thoughts.

I'm certainly not trying to disparage any players or start any rumors. I just realize that any number over 16 must be accompanied by an early departure. This team seems to have fewer candidates to leave early because few are NFL ready and most are still too young to write off. I hope the best for Thrift and every PSU recruit. I mention him because he was a much lower rated prospect. For all I know a kid like Stevens will leave for more playing time (again, not trying to start a rumor). There just aren't as many candidates for early departure. That's part of the reason we only signed 20 last year.

Can this be a redshirt year for Thrift, still allowing him three years to play? I think Thrift is gonna be a good one when he's ready, based on his videos at Gateway.

When he signed with PSU on LOI Day...

Thrift started his collegiate career at Temple before transferring to Lackawanna.

Thrift will have three years of eligibility at Penn State, which is different than most JUCO players who typically only have two years of eligibility.

I would be upset with the staff if they lost Stevens due to playing time. Just a hunch, but I think he would be better than McSorely if given the same opportunity for experience. They have got to find a way to get him on the field. Too much talent/improvement to stay benched. It reminds me of the days that Michael Robinson, a truly gifted athlete, stood on the sideline because the staff had someone else (Zach Mills) that they thought was more QB ready.

This staff doesn't have ingrates on it's roster: It recruits quality kids. That's one of the best things about this staff. Trace is our man. If Trace gets hurt, Tommy is our man. They are BOTH good men to lead this team and they are BOTH winners.

You are mistaken in how you are viewing it.
