Do you think they’d make the season/home opener a Whiteout game?

In our miraculous 2016 run Franklin called more multiple impromptu Whiteouts and it was fun. I like the idea of two, and on different networks for this year.

Why not? One for NBC and the other for ABC. Its an incredible sales tool for the program and the university. Screw Fox and their Big nooner. They can keep the strip out in November.
Well definitely not for ABC. ESPN no longer will broadcast any Big Ten games next season.

It kind of takes away from it being an event but I'm not opposed to it. I understand why others would be though.

have to be careful not to dilute it. if we do too many, it will become meaningless. With one per year, it means a lot. People have told me, non-PSU fans, it is on their bucket list of sporting events to attend. We lose that notoriety if it becomes commonplace.

Didn't we do a strip out or something like that? I can see a whiteout and a stripe out. We also tried to do a blue out but that didn't do very well.

I voted Iowa strictly because the weather would be warmer for a night game but I'd be fine with Michigan too.

I'm OK with two in this scenario. I've seen suggestions that WVU may be a stripe out, and there's no way I'm wearing dark blue that early in September. I sit right on the edge of a section, so I'll just lean into the "white people" if forced to.

I used to be of the opinion that one was enough, but I'm ok with this scenario since WVU is a longtime historic rival. (We will probably be a yellow out for them at famed Milan Pusker Stadium. And it's labor day weekend, and most will be wearing white anyway barring a crappy weather day.

But we really need to see the TV schedule and hope NBC puts us and scUM on at night, or at least dusk. Something for NBC to think about since that's a bye week for the Domers. Depends I guess on NBC's other commitments, if any.

This is the key reason why it will be Iowa. If they tried a white out in November and it was cold, it would lose its impact. A stripe out would be easier but still pretty difficult.

I voted michigan but part of me wants it to be iowa. I hope nobody forgets Ferentz’s comments about psu faking injuries from 2 years ago
People need to get over this. We had players that faked injuries in that game. It was plainly obvious to anyone in the stadium that day. Iowa fans went overboard with booing given that most were legit but some weren't. Sorry. The truth.

Read somewhere that WVU game might be a CBS 330 kick vs Iowa and Michigan likely being FOX nooners (as long as Iowa doesn't stumble early). Remember, Minnesota was a White Out in '22. WVU has more draw the Minnesota I would think (but probably near the same).
True that's a good point

You reminded me how much I hate Iowa. I changed my vote to Iowa. I’d love to destroy those douche bags during a white out.

Let’s face it, it only meant something because it was a huge game vs. O$U and Michigan. Fox will ruin that so why not have 2 a year?

Per MattSarzSports.com, one of the best CFB TV sites, NBC will have two prime time windows to fill for Week 1. In addition the CBS window on week 1, his way too early guess for week 1 and it's meh schedule, is:

Fox Big Noon: ECU @ scUM
CBS 330 is WVU-PSU
Saturday NBC night slot: OSU@Indy
Sunday NBC night slot: Mildcats @ Buttgers

If you ask me, us @ night is better either night, although playing on a Sunday would enrage the fanbase (or would it?). But this would at least give each new media partner a marquee name to promote.

And for 9/23 (my speculation, not any other persons):
OSU @ Domers, afternoon NBC window
NBC best night options: Iowa@PSU, Buttgers-UM or Wisky @ Purdue
Fox may have first pick for Big Noon, but has plenty to choose from in B1G and Big 12.

And for 11/11:

Knifefight in the media room phone booth for:
Sparty @ OSU and UM@PSU, best B1G games of the week. As noted above, no ND that week. Perhaps NBC will want/get two games? Since there will be prime time games every week for NBC, I would think that would bring an end to any formal/informal B1G rule about no prime time games after a certain date.

Just my .02.

Just checking to see if you know for sure (or anyone for that matter):

Doesn't Fox get 1st pick every week? CBS gets 2nd pick with NBC picking 3rd right?

Meaning that it's going to be near impossible to face OSU or Michigan on any channel but Fox...

Or am I wrong?

We don't know the specific details but IMHO you are almost certainly wrong. It's likely that there is a sort of draft just like there was between FOX and ESPN. They drafted weeks that they got the first pick and it alternated. So FOX invariable would take the last week of the season (to get tOSU/UM) and ESPN would then take the week of the second best game of the year, etc.

I would imagine this will be the same. FOX will get the first pick each year of which week to get the top choice. What I'm not sure about if FOX will have "more" weeks of first picks than the other two. Perhaps it might be split something like FOX gets 1st pick 50% of the weeks and CBS and NBC each get first pick 25% of the weeks. I dunno. Maybe they each get a third but FOX just gets the first choice.

CBS and NBC didn't pay as much as they did to never have the top pick in any week of the year.

Also, 2024 is a fluke since CBS won't carry as many Big Ten games due to their SEC contract. They still have the SEC for one more season before ESPN gets all the SEC rights in house.

I do not know who picks first or second or when. What I've heard is that in the past years, the media partners select the games they want in a "draft" type selection early in the year, especially for prime time. (FoX has selected OSU-UM first every year if my info is correct.) It doesn't work that way for every week, of course. Others may shed more light on the selection process, and I encourage those interested in the selections and minutiae to check out mattsarzsports.

I would think it's informed speculation that NBC and CBS will occasionally pick first. They would never pony up what they are paying if they had Iowa-Buttgers or Nebby-Indiana type leftovers every week.

I'd be shocked if tOSU/ND is anything but primetime on NBC. NBC still will carry 1-2 primetime Notre Dame games a season so it's not clear how that will work with the Big Ten deal but my gut is that those weeks CBS might carry a primetime game with NBC using the 3:30 slot for the Big Ten. But we'll see in 2024.

The Big Noon is all about OSU and UM not playing in a Whiteout at night in the Beav. My bet would be IOWA for the whiteout this year.

I don't disagree, but I think you'd agree that my speculation would enable NBC to make a huge splash early in the season with a high profile DH.

You're probably right, though. Although, if I'm reading the tea leaves correctly, NBC broadcasting B1G in prime time is their contracted deal. If that's the case, then they would need some type of dispensation, correct?

The other possibility is that since the Domers are playing a B1G team, NBC will be "allowed" to use this as a "non" B1G prime time game.

We don’t know the specific details of the contract really. Some have guessed there are going to be some weeks where NBC carries a ND game at night and a Big Ten game earlier in the day. Maybe they swap time slots with CBS or FOX those weeks? The contract will the Notre Dame includes IIRC 1-2 prime time games a season

"Unlike with its longtime SEC deal, CBS will not be guaranteed the first selection of football games each week with the Big Ten. Fox, CBS and NBC will hold a draft for games, allowing each network some opportunities for first selection in a given week."

Not explained in detail, but some info.

"FOX has 'first dibs' on the biggest games each week."

Then there is this. So who knows?

We'll find out eventually, but relatively small differences in how much each network paid for their packages doesn't fit with FOX having first choice every single week. It might not be clear until 2024 though when CBS has a full package and USC/UCLA are on board.

I think "first dibs" for FOX is that they are the network selecting first to determine which week to they have first choice.

If we can get Michigan as a night game on NBC then that should definitely be the White Out. If that is a Fox noon game then it should be Iowa.

Nobody wants a technicolor White Out which is what you will have if Michigan is it. I know for a fact that nobody in my family seven has a white coat and only one of us is dumb enough not to not wear a coat and hat if it is cold (will be in the student section) and we'll all be there. Imagine 6 seats (3 in front and 3 behind) of black breaking up the white out in prime TV camera viewing area.

You can't buy xxxL t-shirts in white to go over the coats? If it's cold enough for a coat, an extra layer won't hurt.
