So now that the tournament is over and we had time to digest I don't know why any PSU fan would really be that upset. I don't care what anyone says the loss of suriano was the reason PS did not win it. As for rest of the team, it's mostly all positives. Zain and Nolf are monsters. Cenzo, Cutch and Nevills wrestled great. Hall was right there with Bo jo! Ok, so Bo Nikal loses to my-mar, big deal! $hit happens. Other than Jimmy, the team wrestled really good, got bonus points out the ass. That's all we can ask of these guys, they are wrestling hard!!

A lot of positives based on BiGs not being NCAAs.
- Rather Bo lose this weekend, if at all. Odds are he won't lose again to Mymar and the showdown with Dean will be fun
- Mark will improve, especially now that he knows he can win
- Cutch needs to come up quicker on his low singles but improved! Up another notch!
- NN: another match with Medbury could be fun..
- JG - anything can happen with him. I'd say his odds of winning any match at NCAAs has gone down a bit, but we all know he has a chance at winning any match. I don't like him getting caught like he did.... imagine that will be the next lesson on his attacks..
- NS.... really am interested exactly what the injury is. I really wanted to watch him on the big stage (and live and in person) in a week and a half
- Joseph - getting better every week. He still has a chance against Imar. Mich kid will be a hell of a match. Think the last time they wrestled they bumped heads pretty good (freestyle match last summer).
- Zane & Nolf - lucky to have. just marvel...
- Hoping Law could pull the upset... knew we needed the injury on CC to flare up if that was going to happen.

Well that and 41. We went into the tourney knowing we were wrestling only 9 guys (i.e., that 25 would Inj Dft and then MF out). The collapse at 41 was a killer, but better at B1Gs then NCAAs -- Jimmy still has his shot at writing his ending, that's the silver-lining for the tourney for him (i.e., Jimmy doesn't win that first Consi Bracket match, he might not be going at all).

In life, champions learn from their mistakes (turning them into something of value rather than a waste) and make the most of "opportunities". The reality is that Jimmy has a real "opportunity" here - all is not lost; he should stay positive, thankful and grateful for that....Jimmy has an opportunity very similar to that speed-skater Jensen in the Olympics - he fell and cam up short in a bunch of races he was favored in (didn't even medal if I recall correctly), but then came up Golden in the last race in which he wasn't favored in. The heart of a champion only demands one thing - "never quit, never give up, never give in" (my ancestors have a saying, "There is no shame in being knocked down, there is only shame in refusing to get back up." - sometimes this pride works only to create more pain and damage, but it can also make you stronger if you don't allow your will or spirit to be broken).

The only under performance in the B1G from PSU was Jimmy. I knew Gasca was gonna be a difficult test but he should have been able to come back and placed much higher than he did. Nobody in that consolation bracket scares me or should have scared him. He's beaten most of them this year already.

There's a reason most NCAA champions in a given year have at least one loss. It is extremely difficult at this level to win them all. That's what makes Zain so amazing. Even when he doesn't have his best stuff, he figures out how to win. I think too many people take wrestlers like Zain, DT, Ruth for granted and try to compare everyone on the team to what they accomplish. They are special and bunches of them don't show up on the same team very often.

Not worried about Bo at all. Wasn't his day. Can definitely turn that match around at NCAAs.

It didn't help to have six byes in the first round and miss those bonus points. No one else had more than four.

That is an excellent point. Even with the byes, however, doing the math, Penn State scored 129 points, I believe, with 7 wrestlers (Taking Jimmy's one point away). That is an astounding average of 18.4 points per individual. Even with Jimmy, you have 130/8 or 16.25. Suriano--if healthy--would have made the difference.

Underperform is an unfortunate term for a result that doesn't match seed. It's still a process, even this late in the season, and this coaching staff will use every individual result and team result to improve. A loss is a learning opportunity, and I'm 101% certain the sky isn't falling with the 3C's.

Also noted and somewhat related, I like Varner.

Agree. Could have been worse at 41 - Jimmy got an "auto-bid" spot which is huge relative to the true "opportunity" you speak of.... Jimmy might have lost the battle, but he can still win the war (ditto PSU), which is huge at the end of the day. PSU is taking 9 wrestlers to Nationals with as much firepower as anyone in the nation.

Agree.

Honorable mention goes to 21 Guns, who posted 2,357 times over the weekend about the same 4 topics and challenged 3 different PSU fans to fistfights.
I'm very happy I have Gumby on Ignore. Made the board flow a lot nicer over the weekend, and I guarantee that I didn't miss any information. I would have hoped that Ignore follows the Rivals different boards, but, unfortunately it doesn't. I enjoy reading the HR board, as they do have a few great, knowledgeable posters, but, as luck has it, Gumby popped up. Go take a look. To paraphrase, he said that OSUs wrestlers lift more and are more like weightlifters and are stronger, so it really isn't fair. He's getting hammered pretty good on HR.

Spyker, on the other hand, I just can't put on Ignore. I'm pretty certain he hasn't posted a "fact" yet, but, like a traffic accident, I'm always looking for the lopped off head or pool of blood. Not certain if he is the Best Troll Ever, and Idiot Savant, or just an Idiot.

Another poster on another thread told someone else to un-ignore him for the entertainment value. I think I would rather, from everyones responses to his posts (it is obvious which are his, as he is the only one on ignore) see the blank spaces.

The best I could tell, he now believes the Bucknuts won because of more weightlifting, no way for Suriano to be back with two more weeks, JG sucks, and PSU is no longer the favorite. He has turned into one of his own "haters" as he is now even disagreeing with himself, it seems.

Although Suriano being 100% hurts us, I hope he is back close. Not worried about Nickal, think he is finalist if that loss doesn't drop him to #4 seed. JG has been hot and cold, never know which will show up, but I think he gets you a couple of points somehow. Haven't had time to run the numbers, but wouldn't be surprised if after the seeds come out the Lions are still the favorites depending on Suriano. Lots of good wrestling in St Looey that I will have to miss for a damn hs baseball tourney!

Can't argue with that. I enjoy Spyker, the biggest cheerleader on any board. Enjoy the ride, just take any info with a (VERY SMALL) grain of salt and enjoy the drama.

No way Bo is a 4th seed. He'll be no lower than 3rd based on his record and stats against common opponents, which happen to make up 45% of the criteria for seeding. Conference tourney results make up 10% of the criteria.

Agree. Personally I think Bo will get the #2 seed as he only lost once this year and beat Brooks (Brooks also lost to Jackson). No way he is anything less than a 3 seed though, but based on the criteria and their weighting he should be a 2 seed imho.

I agree that he shouldn't be. Just have seen seeding committees do some strange things.

Not sure who would be seeded #2 if not Bo. One loss, returning finalist.

I'm always looking for the lopped off head or pool of blood.
Oh man. I actually saw something of that nature once, in real life. I would not want to see it again. Let's just say that what they call "grey matter" is actually pink.

You have been told to stop stalking me by moderators and other posters, numerous times. Nobody wants to see your constant stalking. Stop, for the boards sake.

No, he's not. And you getting off on that, makes you even more messed up. Get some psychological help.

Biggest under-performance was some of the posters/fans here
THIS^^^
Was really surprised at some of the constant posters here who after Saturday night said 'It's over', 'We're done'. Fortunately some of the more level headed posters showed a potential path forward; it was a 'Hail Mary', yet it was possible AND the Nits nearly pulled it off.

Was really impressed with how the team wrestled on the Sunday. They could have thrown in the towel, as some of our posters did, but they came out firing.

Zain and Jason are as good as advertised and I would be shocked if they are not national champs.

Cenzo upped his game with a solid performance to place 3rd.

Even though Mark lost, he clearly showed he has to be in any discussion on who wins at 174 at nationals.

Bo put the loss to Martin behind him and finished 3rd. He'll be in the finals in St Louis.

What a gritty performance by Cutch to take 3rd; probably some PSU posters sorry to see that as they have been on his case since day one. Very impressed with what he did.

Nick N showed he is as good as anyone not named Kyle Snyder. Was second only to Zain reference pins; who would have thunk that.

Props to the Buckeyes; they had to wrestle lights out to beat us and they did. Things will be different in St. Louis though.

Hope we get Suriano back; even a few points at 125 will be important.

We lost, yet having seen how the team battled back on Sunday, I'm actually feeling pretty good and like where we are going into St. Louis.

Nickal will be the 2 or 3. No shot at 4. Nickal pinned Boyd and Brooks MD Boyd. Boyd will be the 4. All depends on how much they value head to head (Bo's pin of Brooks) if he gets the 2 or 3.

Hth is #1, and worth about a quarter of the criteria. My guess would be a 2-seed for Bo.

I actually thought, as a team, that we wrestled great. A mild upset at 184 but a strong third place finish, and by the way that is his absolute worst possible case scenario. At 141 perhaps the inevitable happened, and otherwise, every either met, or exceeded expectations.

Great tournament by a 7 man team. Did as well as you can do with 7 wrestlers.

You need 8, to win.

Jimmy just didn't add up. To go from pinning a guy twice to this makes no sense. On top of that, being pinned 3 times in a row is pretty unheard of, especially for a AA. Very happy with the team, just very puzzled by Jimmy. Hope everything is okay with him.

Jimmy is gonna be fine. He had a bad tournament. It happens. The dudes a warrior though. Despite the vitriol he takes from people, he goes out every match. I'd be more worried about Nick. Even if he's cleared, I question his ability to wrestle dinged up.

It very rarely happens that the 10th ranked wrestler in the nation gets pinned three times in a row. Sorry, something was wrong. 10 days to try and address it, we have team doctors and psychologists, use them.
