Why am I vexed?

Basketball is LAUGHABLY inferior to wrestling.

We all know this, but I felt obligated to say it.

One of the dumbest things about modern basketball, aside from the rampant cheating, is the justification for the the shot clock. Introduced in 1985-86, it has actually done nothing to increase scoring. Average team scoring in the last 10 NCAA final games was actually lower than the 10 final games that preceded the introduction of the shot clock.

Your stats are so specific and odd that they seem like Jammenz stats. Are you sure you weren’t cherry-picking? #fourcorners :)

As a fan, I like basketball, but love wrestling.
For exercise (for me), I can't wrestle any longer, but love basketball.

As to your question, BANGER, "why are you vexed?", I can't answer that except to say thanks for the post, as it provided fans with perspective on how successful Penn State athletic teams are currently.

Do you live anywhere Conewego creek? Fish it?
(kind of a weird thread so trout fishing question probably fits in:rolleyes:)

I mean, if I have time, I'll look into it, but I feel fairly confident that the shot clock did very little to actually change scoring rates.

And there's a very simple reason for that: if every team had just run the 4 corners constantly, without trying to score, then NO ONE would ever want to watch pre-shot clock basketball. :)

I'm in Adams County, near the Conewago - yup. I do not, however, fish it. I always see the stock trucks going to fill her up, though.

I can't vouch for the credibility, but I read somewhere recently (Before this successful run) that PSU's Men's Basketball team was one of the more profitable ones in the country due to television and low coaching costs.

I enjoy so many sports it's hard for me to decide what to watch often. Even cricket if you can believe that. lol

PSU athletics being good in the most profitable sport in NCAA is a good thing. Helps out all our other sports and finances better salaries for coaches and assistants.

posting this on the wrestling board provides a safe space @lionlover

It seems every time I open up BWI all I see are BB posts since they are ranked #13. Is that such an accomplishment? We've been at the top of the national wrestling scene for a decade and all of a sudden basketball gets the headlines? Penn State Lacrosse is at #1, Hockey at #7, Wrestling #2 and our other winter teams are great, so where's the love? Don't misunderstand me, I love that the basketball team is having some success after quite a few years of mediocrity at best. Let's just have some parity on the main page shall we, although I've seen some hockey coverage, or am I just a bitter wrestling fan? What say you?

PS, It's seems it is the same over on the Iowa board too, I never see wrestling coverage on their main page.
It's all about performance versus expectation and, relative to expectations going into this season, basketball's performance has been off-the-charts. Did a columnist recently write something about "...a final four team"? Don't recall hearing much talk about that kind of thing last Fall or, for that matter, since approximately forever. Wrestling, on the other hand, has much higher annual expectations to meet and, although it's ranked significantly higher than basketball in the national polls, expectations-wise it's not doing nearly so well -- because Cael has created a monster, the like of which has rarely been seen in any sport, which now has to be fed come-what-may. This season, loss of 40% of the projected starting lineup to injury has dropped the Lions to "only" a #2 National Team Tournament Ranking -- thus putting somewhat of a damper on national championship expectations to which PSU fans have become very comfortably accustomed. So at the moment they're only too happy to compensate by hopping onto the basketball bandwagon for how-ever-long it may keep rolling. Time will tell how long that might be.
