I have to admit to being a realist, even a pessimist sometimes.
I've seen many predictions this year, but most seem to top out at 10-2, followed by a nice trip to Florida.
But why not more?
Why not the whole shebang? Why not 13-0/12-1 and into the playoff?
We will be favored in 10 of 12 regular season games. Maybe more if Sparty is down, and that's a possibility after seeing their opener.
Yes, we have to go to the 'Shoe. But we've won there recently (more than usual). Yes, we got pasted two years ago. But OSU beat us at the Beav one year after we pasted them. It's not impossible.
Yes, the OL was terrible last year. But if we can achieve what we did last year with that type of line, then an improvement would seem likely, correct? And if we can take the eventual national champ to 2OT despite the musical chairs line that night (not to mention the refs), then I think we can do something better with an improved line. And all this is assuming one thing: We've got one of the best QBs in the country. As long as this kid is on the field and upright, then we'll have a puncher's chance. And that's what I believe.

13-0, We Are Penn State!!!

I'm going to assume this was tongue in cheek...we're not even one year removed from the worst sanctions in the history of college football, we have a second year head coach, and we're coming off a year where we weren't very good...and you're talking national championship....really? Gotta love first day delusions.

You say delusion, I say optimism. Are we not favored in 10/12?

If CJF can win 9 at Vandy, then I think he can coach.

And if the sanctions couldn't kill us in 2012-14, then why not now? Why not us? Do you think we're 6-6 again?

I think 8-4 would be a good season and that's more due to us having a weak schedule than being really good. To me that sanctions hurt as bad this year as last year and after this year we can really start improving and reaching toward bigger and better things. I don't think the O line has magically developed into a powerhouse over the offseason and we still don't have the O line recruits that we will get. I have complete faith in Franklin but he's a coach, not a miracle worker.

After watching MSU last night, I think we can beat them. Not saying we will but I've moved that game from the L column to the maybe column.
OSU in Cbus is going to be a tall order.

I'm thinking Franklin corrects some of the game management and play calling issues, the oline is a little better, the schedule is pretty favorable. 10-2 might be optimistic, but hardly delusional.

I watched the MSU game last night and I do think they are beatable. Having said that I also think they may have stayed a bit vanilla and also took their foot off the gas a bit when they were way up. They play Oregon next week so maybe they didn't want to show a lot of different things. JMO

First game is always terrible.. Can't take too much from this.

After sitting through this disaster at the Linc, I have to quote from the original "Smokey and the Bandit" when the Ga. trooper confidently says he doesn't need backup and has "The Bandit iin his sights", then flips his car down an embankment:

"Headquarters, please disregard my last transmission."

Watching this team since 1976, it was one of the most disappointing performances I've ever seen. If anything, the offense has regressed, as has the QB (is Rahne getting paid, and if so WHY?!?). I have to review the game and refresh my memory of some plays, but my immediate takeaway is that we were outplayed and outcoached. OTOH, Temple fans have a lot to like. That team took a punch, got off them mat and then meted out punishment. I'd also like to know more about what happened to Haley and Wartman-White.

It would appear that 10-2 is delusional. After today's game, 6-6 might be a tall order.
