Will Betancourt

Look, we are way to young and good for a new guy. So, it would have to be a one year rental for the weights 141-157. Haines, Bartlett have redshirts if needed. Insert possible national champ in for one year while Haines or Bartlett RS. Second possibility is 125 with Howard medical redshirt. In this case Vito or Glory but not Betancourt.

Are the Carr rumors simply because he is close friends with AB?
Yeah and the fact he's graduating and had a "subpar" tournament. I will say his friendship with AB is definitely stronger than the high five after a good match one. He said he confided in AB when he lost in Round 2, which is interesting, usually you lean on teammates and coaches during this tournament for that (no matter how good friends you are with others) and he was the first to find AB basically after AB won on Saturday night.

I forgot how bad he beat Paddy. That to me shows how ready he is. Paddy is a beast and is going to step right in next year and do really well. Also, Paddy is physically ready to go right now and Levi more than matched up in that department. Would a redshirt where he can continue to mature both physically and mentally be a good thing? Absolutely but I truly believe that he is a kid that can go from day 1 and be in the conversation at the end of the year. I think Levi can have a freshman year similar to what Hamiti did this year.
he did not "put it on" paddy. he was the clearly better wrestler, but was losing that match with 30 seconds left before going takedown to turk. no need to exaggerate. and i think he could be better than hamiti was this year just because 157 won't be as tough as 165.

What are you saying? We're a bunch of Mineos?

Your offseason will be shitty enough, not sure why people need to try to make it any worse… lol

Yeah - I think the match that showed Levi's potential is obviously the Cerniglia match, not Paddy. Cerniglia is much more proven and Levi was on pace to major him (definitely hurt him with the bow and arrow in the first though) Paddy is the "big name" since he was #1 PFP in 2021 but if anything, the Paddy match should tell us to pump the brakes a bit on Levi since they were neck and neck and Paddy's results during his redshirting year haven't been mind blowing (mainly because he hasn't wrestled any big name and he lost one to the Buffalo guy)

PSU scored 3.5 at 125, 149, 157, 165 combined this year. We scored 4.5 at those 4 last year. If we can even find one 8th place finisher at any of those weights next year, we instantly score more than the rest combined lol.

Show me where I said he “put it on him” since you are so into TRUTH. I didn’t say it. I watched the match and like you said he was clearly the better wrestler. I also said that Paddy is a beast and is going to be very good. I wasn’t throwing shade at him in any way

I think Ivy Leagues have strict rules about who is allowed to compete for them. Like once you graduate, you're done or something. They don't allow redshirts. That might be where the rumors of an Ivy transfer is coming from.

have to progress and get beyond the opponents detailed scouting after a few big time matches\

Rhino said it. So now he will come back with “well, you said you forgot how badly he beat him …which is pretty much the same thing as putting it on him.” Then you will hit him with, “Why you putting words in my mouth MR TRUTH? How do you know what I meant when I said that?” And he will then come back with “ I’m Mr. Truth… I know the Truth…. and you really meant he put it on him when you said that.” Then you will respond, “ shut up, go back to HR where you belong.”

After a few more pages of this, you two will eventually move on….

And johnstownsteel will continue to be one bad ass mother******. :)

Yeah this could see all kind of movement.

Quincy Monday, maybe?

Pretty much spot on! I really do love you as a poster. One of my favorites and always make me laugh. I will stand by my take that 8-3 is beating someone badly however🤣

I get that we are all high on SVN and probably Beau at his real weight, but Max Dean just happened. I'm not ruling anything out based on what we already have.

I hear you… but when a high schooler wears down Ohio State’s top redshirting recruit (who went 17-2 on redshirt) and takes him down late in the match AND turns him… it’s fair to call it that, IMO. After all, Ohio State is our biggest challenger to the team title year in and year out. :)

JS, You're a smart guy and I respect your posts and knowledge but you're just wrong on your assessment of this match. I went to watch this in person because it is only 20 minutes away. I thought Paddy was going to handle him. The truth is, Paddy should have been stalled out of this match in the 2nd period. Levi controlled the mat the entire time. He shot (not pushed) Paddy out of bounds at least 5 times after getting a stall call in the first minute of the match. The ref never called another.
The takedown Paddy got was from Levi being overly aggressive and got sloppy. Like a veteran PSU wrestler, he remained calm and fixed his mistake. The poetic justice was Paddy wearing the Myles Martin singlet. Carter looked much better in Mark Hall's when he won the same Open.

Ahhh beware the ides of March

I don't know if I would want anyone coming in next year, we are pretty well set.

Carr is the kind of kid that would fit like a glove in terms of personality, ability and team cohesion. I like the idea of Levi getting one more year to develop despite his appearing 'ready' to AA next year, a small sacrifice to have a shot at being a national champion out of the gate. Despite a 3rd finish for Carr, that is under performing, and if he indeed graduates in May, I think it makes sense from almost any angle.

Vito at 125 makes me drool. I think RBY returns so no need to speculate about 133.

Now let's look at last year's rumors

Suriano = F = soap opera & self absorbed. I am glad he passed.

Hildebrandt = C - a solid kid, his 2021 4th was not dominant so he might of performed about as expected. I don't think he fully returned to form coming out of retirement. In the end we didn't need his points, and by every measure he was a quality kid that made us all feel much better leading off duals.

Griffith = WD - a pipe dream, and the rebirth of the program needed him to lead. Good for Stanford.

Wick = F -we really missed out on this one and he probably missed out on becoming a champ. Administrators once again proved to be self important bureaucratic dolts.

Berge = B- - he shouldn't count as he was a home grown transfer back out of retirement. He too he didn't get enough time in at weight to be firing on all cylinders. I wish he decided back in October.

Dean = A+ - great for team chemistry even in a difficult situation with Michael. Exceeded expectations, provided huge excitement and bonus points all season. A great man by all measures, humble and appreciative. I hope he comes back and let the best man win.

I know I am missing someone but it illustrated that the rumor mill is well below 50%. I won't trust any rumors until they are official..... Except Vito and Carr ;-)

The only reason to have wanted Suriano back is for the additional degree of meltdown on HR over PSU having 6 champions and nearly 160 points (PSU would have won the B1G, too...). Given how the season unfolded, I'm not losing any sleep over it, but if he had come back, at least it would have been entertaining. I agree that it was never likely given the circumstances of his leaving in the first place, though.

not a hill to die on, but losing on a takedown in the final 30 seconds is not getting it put on you. also don't agree with the characterization of paddy's takedown. just rewatched for a second time today. it was just a really nice single. not sloppy at all from levi. he just got beat in that position.

i really like haines. could see him having a starocci trajectory. maybe not a title his first year (don't think starocci would have won as a true freshman either), but i think he'll be in the mix most of his career.

what about ferrari? he skipped an osu dual meet to go to a fight. maybe a falling out? could that be the frl transfer? redshirts next year, then takes over for dean?
Less than a week after NCAAs and PSU has been connected to both Ivy League 125s, David Carr, AJ Ferrari and Daton Fix on this board.

Even funnier, this is the year where PSU really doesn't need a transfer if we get RBY back.

125 - Howard
141 - Bartlett
149 - SVN
157 - Haines
165 - Facundo

Now how good each will be in terms of scoring in late March? That's tbd but Cael put on the full court press for all of those guys for a reason I imagine.
