Carr is the obvious possibility given his relationship with guys on the team and graduation. So that makes me think it’s not him because Askren shouldn’t looked shocked at it being him.

I saw it looks like Kennedy Monday is looking to be on the move. Said he just realized he has 2 years of eligibility left. I'd share it, but I have no idea how to share a post on here.

I don't think he wrestled this past year and had a rough end to the year before (0-2 at the ACC tourney). Don't think he would be much of an addition, but would make for a heckuva room guy for guys like Facundo to work out with and make us stronger overall!
I'd love to see this post. (For most posts, just copy/paste the URL or use the share link on the phone.)

Am skeptical that he'd have more than 2023 left if he returned. He could conceivably request a medical extra year for 2019, when he did not wrestle in the spring -- who knows if the NCAA would do that or not for most guys.

Guessing not for him -- he spent 2022 in MMA instead of using an eligibility year.

Also: he was in MMA this year. Will he be into it? A talent if so.

I'm calling BS on that -- it's a Facebook fan site, not Monday himself.

It appears to be a screenshot from his tweeter -- but that tweet does not exist on his acct. Which means either he deleted it or they faked it.

Either way, that isn't evidence that he's considering leaving MMA for college, or that he'd leave UNC if he did.

Funny, the portal wasn't so toxic when Bulk Job moved from Nebraska.
Sour grapes. Think about it though. How many seasoned wrestlers would want to transfer into a culture of sucking big weight. I'm sure Smith will get his fair share, but come on man.

If you go by the stunned look on Askren's face and his Immediate reaction to ( Apparently off-the-cuff ) connect the name to Penn State it has to be:
1. Someone Quite High Level
2. Someone who has an obvious connection to PSU and/or it's athletes
The most high level wrestler that has been the most visible friend/connection to PSU athletes that would illicit that immediate reaction from Ben would be.....in my opinion......David Carr. Ferrari? No way. Fix? Can't fathom it... OSU in his blood. Sasso? Not sure why Ben who associate him immediately to PSU. Glory? Small chance...none if he has yet to get his degree. Vito? Again......why an immediate connection to PSU from Ben. Unless Pyles texted him (Blank) to PSU.........I really don't see any other reasonable possibility. Of course that doesn't mean the rumor is accurate........just saying that I would bet a 20 that the rumor involved Carr unless Pyles gave a different name....like Deakin and included the "To PSU" in the text. So.....problem solved. Carr is the rumored wrestler.....PSU is Ben's assumed destination. Time will tell.
PS: If this turns out to be complete Bull.....I will do a "Mineo" and make this post disappear so don't anyone copy it for eternity :)
Pyles just figured out PSU is getting Gabe Dean's little brother!

not a hill to die on, but losing on a takedown in the final 30 seconds is not getting it put on you. also don't agree with the characterization of paddy's takedown. just rewatched for a second time today. it was just a really nice single. not sloppy at all from levi. he just got beat in that position.

i really like haines. could see him having a starocci trajectory. maybe not a title his first year (don't think starocci would have won as a true freshman either), but i think he'll be in the mix most of his career.
You're right. Not a hill to die on. Do you at least have an opinion on the shoot out non-calls? I can only imagine what the average Hawk fan would have been doing. ;)
But hey, it's the Edinboro Open and not the NCAA finals.

Well . . . he does graduate from Cornell this Spring + he has a former teammate down in State College who seems to like the place + there is a space waiting for him at the NLWC to fortify our chances of attracting and developing the lower weights.
Imagine the noise that would come from hr if yanni transferred to PSU. Now that would be awesome the explosion would be unreal

I may be in the minority, but unless Robbie Howard isn’t healthy, I see no reason why we need a stud transfer.

If RBY is coming back, we have 4 returning champs, and Kerk who will be ranked on top 2 or 3. We have Van Ness and Facundo coming off redshirt and primed and ready to go. We have Beau moving down to his more natural weight. And Haines will be ready if called upon come January.

I’d love to see Carr or Yanni or some other stud in blue and white as much as the next guy. And I’d relish watching us curb stomping Iowa and demolishing the field. But not at the expense of seeing our young studs flourish. And if RBY is back, we win going away with our current team.

The only weight for a transfer I'd like to see if it is a clear step up is 157, but I'm OK with Bearclaw there and shirting Levi.
Terrell just needs to spend the summer at Treigning Lab.

Yeah, for the handwringing about PSU transfers this year, we won with our recruits (plus Kerk, who wasn't technically a recruit but never wrestled anywhere else). Even taking Dean away, maybe Beard doesn't win (maybe the does, though, against Warner...), but he's a likely AA and worth enough points that PSU still wins the team trophy comfortably. The other transfers contributed very little in terms of team points. Nothing against Dean (or Hilde or even Berge if you consider him among the mercenaries), but it's definitely more special to win with the kids you've had in the room for their entire careers.

Bringing in a Carr and/or Yanni level recruit is only worth it for the lulz over the HR meltdown it would cause.

Great points. I will say this though. A real reason I’d like to see Carr come here is because I think he’s super talented and I want to see how high his ceiling could be. The truth hurts sometimes but that’s my truth, lol.

Barring injury concerns, and assuming RBY returns, it’s difficult to imagine the need for a high level transfer at any weight other than 157.

(Of course, I would have included 197 in the “no need for a transfer” category last year too.)

Well there is this.

Justin Basch mentioned on Baschamania that he will have Aaron Brooks and David Carr on his next show. I believe it will be this week.

If there ever was a time to announce, this may be it.

It would be a bad look if he announces for Penn State before entering the portal.

The rumor was of a high level title contender looking to transfer. Wasn’t even clear if it was to PSU. Askren guessed Carr to PSU and pyles didn’t shoot it down. That was about it.

Random thought. Would Wittlake be a take if he said he were comfortable staying at 165?
Would he say that though? We had him projected at 184, before...

Smith being mad at the portal after his last several years and especially this year is kind of a sad look, if you ask me.

Wittlake once wanted to come to PSU, until he didn't. Never say never, but hard to imagine he'd change his mind back.

I'd second your statement. To add. As an Iowa state grad as well as a PSU fan, I think Carr would be a great fit. He fits into the mold that Cael recruits. His dad Nate is really awesome. Just my thoughts.

If you listen to his Sat post-finals press conference, he sounds ALL in at Cornell.
