The rumor was of a high level title contender looking to transfer. Wasn’t even clear if it was to PSU. Askren guessed Carr to PSU and pyles didn’t shoot it down. That was about it.
Askren did not mention Carr. He promised not to reveal the name. He just looked a bit stunned and said...."To Penn State?" We have been filling in the blanks as we always do :)

The new portal rules are not good for the coaches and the fan base of fringe teams in all sports. The rules are good for the athletes. I truly am not fond of what goes on now. I do believe a graduate should be allowed to transfer without a year of delay.
Just my thoughts.

Random thought. Would Wittlake be a take if he said he were comfortable staying at 165?
I believe Wittlake is from Washington and De-committed from PSU because it was too far from home and he didn't have any hunting buddies at PSU. I am pretty sure he mentioned hunting and that OSU was a better fit because they all hunt. Pretty certain it isn't Wittlake. Where would he fit?

For the record I don’t believe any big name transfer is in the works for PSU but I wouldn’t read into interviews or social media likes after and during NCAAs. You have to be all in while you’re there. Few people said they talked to Suriano during 2017 NCAAs and he said he was all in for PSU and seeing us go 5/5 was so motivating for him.

Willie made it sound like he wasn’t sure Cael actually wanted him that bad. He committed without Cael’s knowledge. I don’t think he’d be a 165 anywhere but Oklahoma State also.

That was a classic face-saving reason. I don't think anybody bought it at the time.

The funny thing was, when he and RBY committed together, we all thought he was the primary target -- because he had previously talked about wanting to wrestle for Cael, patterned his technique after Cael, etc. -- and RBY was a surprise bonus.

Turns out Cael was after RBY, and Wittlake was the surprise.

He may enter the portal, but like you said he is not a fit at PSU.

If RBY comes back, we're in great shape at every weight.

But if any talents call Cael and said they would like in (and are going to walk on basically) like Max Dean did last year, Cael is not going to say no.

I hope it didn’t sound like I was starting a rumor, but I think it’s obvious why I even asked: (1) Smith’s comment, and (2) prior interest from TW. And to whoever asked where he’d fit, I’d note he’s 3 years ahead of Alex and when not injured had a pretty solid showing.

I truly believe Alex has a higher ceiling than Wittlake and will be better than him in short time. But if Wittlake wants in and he's coming for free, he's very welcome.

And by reading this board, Travis has learned that there are indeed many good hunting spots in the State College vicinity, and he’s learned the proper way to secure yourself in a tree stand 😁

If the team photo is evidence, then approx 10 guys didn't made the trip. I counted 29 wrestlers' heads (though I might have miscounted by 1-2), vs. 39 on the official roster.
I know of three, spoke with them at the grocery store in State College Tuesday evening before our group headed to Detroit Wednesday morning.

It would be a bad look if he announces for Penn State before entering the portal.
That would be like the Rutgers' staff knowing Nick was going wrestle at Rutgers and how much scholarship funding had been agreed upon about 7 weeks prior to asking permission to talk to Nick about wrestling at Rutgers.

If he wants to come to PSU I imagine he would be welcome. He most likely isn't beating Facundo though.
I wouldn't go that far.

Wittlake was 4th last year, and 4 seed 27-2 in 2020.

He and Facundo would have a strong competition.

He most likely isn't coming to PSU, so it only matters if they meet in the brackets.

TW IMO one more example of talent stymied by an unrealistic cut. I hope he finds a home and goes 174, then we might see his real potential. We certainly don't have a need at either weight.

This is exactly what people said about Beard and Dean, too. Facundo would either beat out Wittlake or push him to be a national champ.
I did not say that. My take was having Dean in the room would drive Beard towards improving certain techniques and achieving elite cardio making Beard a title threat. Or Dean competing with an improving Beard and training daily with Jake, Cael, Casey, DT, Aaron, Carter and Kerk would be a threat to win the title. Either outcome was something I was good with.
Turns out I was right.

So me saying Wittlake most likely would not beat out Facundo is not "like what people said about Dean and Beard.

First, Wittlake is not Max Dean nor is he ever going to be so Wittlake doesn't present the assumed Lion starter the same threat to his starting position.
Second, Facundo doesn't struggle with cardio.
Third, Wittlake would be trying to recover his health.

Wittlake I am certain would be welcome to come to Happy Valley, train and learn inside Lorenzo and compete for the starting position at 165 or 174. If he would come (which he isn't) I would actually expect him to spend the year training, eating, getting healthy and strong and then in 2 years maybe fill in at 174 if Carter bumped a weight or maybe took an ORS.
What would not happen is Wittlake beating out Facundo for the spot at 165.

Wittlake is actually from Coos Bay, Oregon, which is approximately two hours north of the California border. Coos Bay and North Bend border each other. I grew up in North Bend and my family still lives there. My sister actually lives two houses down from where Steve Prefontaine grew up.

Wittlake did beat out Aaron for the Jr world team, then got hurt and Aaron filled in and won gold.
That always struck me as a Freddy Stoker moment for Wittlake. The 4th of July Cael is at the Stoker family picnic, a short time later Cenzo is using Freddy as a mat mop and Cael forgot Freddy's name.

Honestly Wittlake should look to go back home. Oregon State is clearly doing an awesome job developing. He can go either 165 or 174 for them. He can medical redshirt next year and fully heal up because from what I hear (and what everyone can see) his knee was in very very bad shape by Big 12s. Then he'll have both IMar and Pendleton to practice with.

What would not happen is Wittlake beating out Facundo for the spot at 165.
Just curious what you are basing this on? I tend to hope/believe in our guys to make jumps too—but Travis lost 1 pt decisions to Marinelli and O’Toole this year, and Alex didn’t look ready to compete with any AA at the Scuffle. I agree he has more upside—I’m just genuinely wondering if you know something I don’t about Alex’s progression. That said, I’m happy with Alex as our guy.

I think the best hope is Alex's freshman year was like Bo Nickal's. Bo didn't have impressive results particularly either ... and ABSOLUTELY NOT results that indicated a career like he had was coming.

One thing that is very encouraging, Alex dominated weaker opponents, think he scored 20 a few times. He just didn't have the setups to score on NQ level guys (Cael said it himself) but we have the best coaches in the world to teach him that.

We have heard some of his older teammates say he is definitely going to be a national champ. I trust their opinion since they are rolling with him every day.

Breakdown of the conversation on the Tuesday FRL;
Christian discusses Nick Lee graduating and Beau possibly moving down. Then immediately goes quiet for a moment before continuing "I think, you know what I think...and this isn't forshadowing to Nick Lee or 141 replacement for Penn State. I think we are going to have one of the craziest, or THE craziest transfer season ever."
Askren's face lights up a little "Really? Why do you think that?"
Christian hems and haws and tries to throw Ben off the scent for a bit talking about the current wide open landscape for potential transfers. They talk about transfers and past transfers to PSU for a minute, before Ben decides to press him.
Ben "Alright who? Give us a prediction"
Christian looks down into his lap "Huh uh, no."
Ben smells something juicy "Oh, you got something you don't wanna say?"
Ben cajoles Christian for a minute and finally gets Christian to crack a bit.
Ben "Give us some hints."
Christian "He's really good."
Ben "Like, how high did he all american?"
Christian's voice cracks under the strain "HE'S GOOD, he's good."
Ben thinks he knows who it is. "A national champion?"
Christian composes himself "He's national champion caliber, certainly."
Ben continues to bug him. Christian promises to tell him after the show. Ben can't stand the suspense (gotta love Ben) and Christian agrees to text it to him.
The conversation starts to move on, but trails off when Ben's eyes grow to the size of dinner plates after getting the text.
Ben "Nooooo. Not to Penn State though?"
Christian smiles and lifts his eyebrows. "i didn't...I didn't say.."
Ben is shocked and you can hear his Wisconsin come out "THAT'S WHAT'S GOING TO HIAPPAN! WHAT? STOP!"
Ben freaks out a little more and Christian looks both amused and embarrased before finally succeeding to change the subject.

TL/DR VersionL: It's totally Sasso

Kennedy Monday is officially in the portal, but I guess he's not exactly NC caliber at this point, other than his genes.

He looks like a National Champion one match than like a non NQ the next week. The definition of inconsistent.

Carson Kharchla’s Twitter banner is a lion’s den / pride of lions. Check it out. @CarsonKharchla.
LOL his banner is a bunch of lions. As watertight as that is......
Meanwhile Sasso has not posted nor retweeted anything pertaining to Nationals or his team or team mates. His timeline is all about Nazareth, Sonny and that Wordle thing.

What makes you think Facundo couldn't beat out Edsall? did they even wrestle off? I just assumed Facundo would redshirt.
just his results. you guys have tons of young talent to brag on. why pick the guy who couldn't beat caleb fish? lol this is almost as silly as when some were saying they preferred hildebrandt to suriano.
