The Lady Lions lead 9-4 early.

I haven't followed the Lady Lions closely this season, but one of the announcers just said that they are 10-1 at home and 2-4 on the road.

Just like that, the bed-crapping has started. Penn State is down 18-12 in the final minute of the 1st quarter. The past few minutes, Penn State has shot poorly, turned the ball over, and played no defense.

Penn State down 31-27 at the half. The score belies the fact that Penn State is playing poor defense and is undisciplined on offense.

I didn't know that they played defense. I've watched every game that has been on BTN and they have no organized offence. The first person across half court throws the ball toward the hoop. I don't like to be critical of any team but......

That's what I've seen tonight. iu has been beating Penn State down the floor consistently. On offense, Penn State has been chucking 3's, often early in the shot clock. It's a mess.

Indiana wins, 72-66. It wasn't as close as the score would indicate. Penn State looked bad.

You should go and root for UCON women, they never lost so we dont hear any more complaints

Yeah, Coquese is fine. Penn State is doing just fine. Besides, Coquese hasn't been there very long (since 2007), so she obviously needs time to build the program. Oh, and indiana is, of course, a juggernaut.

Duh.

That is just plain stupid. The women's program used to be a top ten program. It is maybe, maybe fifty. Coquese Washington may be a wonderful person, but is a really mediocre coach. She should be retired early.
It is hard to fathom that she played for, and coached under, Muffett McGraw.

Watching Penn State games, the best thing the announcers say game after game about Washington is that she has a law degree from nd. Granted, that is unique in the coaching ranks, but the point is that they can't say much about her as a coach because she hasn't been effective in her actual chosen profession.

Indiana did not have a lot of talent, but they were very well coached which led to a lot of easy baskets. CW seems to be a great representative of the University, but I think it's time for a coaching change. This is an OK PSU team talent wise, but there was enough there to win this game by 10 points.

There are a lot of coaches in this profession who would consider three conference championships in ten years to be "effective".

And, to be honest, I'm not sure if it's fair to characterize a program that has only three Elite Eights and one Final Four to their name in 35 years as a top 10 program. I think there's a bit of revisionist history that tends to go on here when it comes to Penn State's former coach.

We were a top 15-20 program most years under Rene, with some top 10 rankings. However, her teams had a habit of crapping the bed and losing to a lower seed in the NCAAs. I'm not sure if we were overrated in those years, or we just were bad at tourney ball.

Coquese had good teams for a few years, but they all underachieved in the post-season.

And this coach has won how many B1G Tournament titles?

A girl I used to coach was on the hook early to go to PSU but the coach didn't stick with her and the girl ended up at Michigan State where she's the starting point guard as a freshman and one of the top freshmen in the country. Big miss there.

Coquese had 3-4 good teams, but I'm really starting to question how much of that success was her, and how much was the core group of players that didn't need much coaching. She had at least 3, and I think maybe 4, WNBA players on those rosters during those years.

Agreed. Maggie Lucas did her thing. Those teams didn't play much defense and won primarily on offense. They had better skill players than a lot of teams, but they faltered against talented teams that played a system on offense and defense.

Not just Maggie "I never miss a 3 point shot" Lucas, most of her run of success she also had Alex Bentley and Nikki Greene on 3 of those teams. That's 3 WNBA players on one team, three years in a row.

After Alex and Nikki left, Maggie was forced her senior year to try to take the ball inside much more, which was not her strongest suit.

You are correct. I cited Maggie as an example. She was fun to watch in those years, but she definitely benefited from having Bentley running the offense (especially the fast break) and Greene underneath.

She should go practice law. She is a bad coach.
