Word out there is that PSU is ruining college wrestling.

Yep. And TNT are stuck in that model and unable or unwilling to change. Kids realize that practice and prep don't have to be a complete beat down of your body.

With Cael's model, you go into March better prepared, in better health, and with much more energy. Quite honestly, it's not that difficult to figure out. I'm amazed that no other team can come close to replicating it. OK St with the weight cutting. TnT with beating the hell out of everyone and the handfight mindset. And who knows what is going on in Columbus.

If anyone starts to get it, I hope it's ISU or NCST. Anyone that kicks Iowa further down the ladder.
The only thing missing from a Cael wrestling (dodgeball) practice is a wrench.

Bama, Georgia and osu didn’t ruin football

Duke , Kentucky and whomever didn’t ruin b-ball

Immediate eligibility through the portal, in conjunction with NIL, has made this the wild west in college sports.
Please explain Suriano boarding the cruiseliner.

Or, incoming: David Taylor.

Yep and in pro sports, usually the worst teams gets next year’s top draft picks and vice versa.. they want to keep most teams balanced and all fan bases engaged.. so when there is a dynasty it’s even more impressive.
In pro sports, the draft means only veterans get to pick their teams. Unlike college athletes.

If someone wants Penn State to stop dominating college wrestling they need to step up. Until then, Penn State is king, long live the king.

For those trying to drag this into politics, i recommend the extra heavy duty tin foil for your next hat. There's still some bad shit getting through to your head.

Politics has nothing to do with the rise of the PSU dynasty and will very likely have nothing to do with it eventually ending either.
But what about FAUCI!?!?!?!?! He and Bill Gates are working together to put tracking chips into headgear!!! Freestyle is the only thing that can save us!!

College football? Alabama stomps through everybody, instead of whinning about the unfairness of Alabama being better than us Georgia hires Kirby Smart and Kirby does what Nick does. He hires an unbelievable staff, they out recruit, out coach and out do everybody in everything and low and behold Georgia is now king.

Alabama has won 6 championships since 2000. As far as dynasty comparisons in college sports you have to compare UConn's women's basketball, North Carolina Women's soccer, Iowa wrestling, and a couple others. Of course there is a uniqueness now because of NIL and transfer rules so anyone who makes a definitive statement in uncharted territory can't be taken seriously because nobody knows. We can all make a prediction on factors we believe and I would not think it would ruin the sport however if there is a lack of competitiveness for a niche sport it may produce less drama and less viewers. The original fans will be as fervent and some newcomers may come on following a specific athlete but others may be turned away.

Then again if the sport goes the way of Jason Nolf type style and as a fan I will say more offensive like Penn State then this could actually grow the sport.

Penn State Fencing in the day.

In my opinion, guys may not go to Penn State to win championships anymore. They do and will go to Penn State to train with the best, be coached by the best, and to become the best wrestler possible. Winning individual or team championships is the outcome of the aforementioned. If you want to give yourself the very best chance to be the best, you go to Penn State. Guys are willing to give up scholarship money, and maybe they'll even be willing to give up a year or two of eligibility for the opportunity.

I do worry some about the competitive balance in the sport (but I don't blame Cael and company one iota) because I want the sport to be successful. Each year, duals become less and less interesting because of our increasingly dominant lineups. The season becomes 2-3 duals, Big Tens, and Nationals. The success does rob us of some of the fun. Levi would be wrestling Messenbrink for national titles, but we won't get to see it. But did Mitchell make the best decision for his wrestling career? Of course he did.

What problems we have.

Wrestling is a niche sport, we love it others don't care. Most fans seem to have wrestled or maybe competed in weight class sports.

Manville for example, though he went ROTC.

While I agree that freestyle and folkstyle should be kept separate, the version of freestyle we have now in terms of quality and the rule set is the best we’ve ever had.
yes esp when your get points when the guy is not even close to being on his back, the step out which is many times a push out I could go on and on and on, final point wins a tie match are you serious?

Penn State recruits better, has a better NLWC and has more gold metalists. Almost like Alabama in football. Only thing I don't like is portal. Bottom line, they are not breaking the rules and are setting a new standard for the sport.
Penn State wrestling is WAY more dominant than Alabama in football.

Remember: college football has long had an inherently fake means of determining a national champ. An 8 team playoff would be perfect, but 4 is stupid.

So, for example:

2009: Alabama beat Texas after Colt McCoy got hurt, which, to put it mildly, was a big deal. I am also of the opinion that Iowa, with its absolutely ridiculous NFL level front 4, would have beaten Alabama if Ricky Stanzi had not been injured in November. Ohio State (Cam Heyward) probably was better than Alabama too but choked against USC and Purdue. Remember, this was not a spectacular Alabama team; they were a plodding offense and a great defense that struggled to miraculously beat a bad Tennessee team. With McCoy, Texas would have won. This is an extraordinarily lucky national title for Alabama.
2011: Alabama didn't even remotely belong in this game as Oklahoma State, statistically, was a clear choice for the title game. This is a totally fake national title for Alabama. And, yes, I'm still salty about the bogus fake punt spot Bama got at Penn State that year.
2012: Alabama won fair and square, but remember! Ohio State stupidly chose to take their bowl ban for 2011 instead of 2012. There is no question that the 2012 Ohio State team would have beaten Alabama. This is a mixed legit and fake national title for Alabama.
2015: This is a legit national title for Alabama
2017: Not only was UCF more worthy of Alabama's spot, but so were Wisconsin, Ohio State, and even 2-loss Penn State! Alabama played a mediocre (but media-hyped!) schedule, played like total trash against Auburn, but got in anyway because ESS EEE CEE! This is one of the fakest national titles in the history of college football!
2020: COVID SEASON - ENTIRELY FAKE NATIONAL TITLE

Alabama has ONE (!) national title, in 2015, that didn't require a global pandemic deal, require extraordinary luck, extraordinary SEC homer voting, and so on.

Nick Saban doesn't belong in the same breath as Cael Sanderson.

Most people look back at John Wooden's run with nothing but praise.
Those people are naive. John Wooden was a dirty, rotten cheater.

But Bill Walton is awesome. So there is that.

I beg pardon for digressing into hoops, but, as for hoops dynasties, the "villain" of college basketball that shouldn't be is Adolph Rupp. Very few coaches have been so unfairly maligned. Rupp was NOT a segregationist or a racist. Rupp was at an institution we would now call racist, but was famous within Kentucky for doing things like telling one black player from Louisville something to the effect of, "I want to recruit you here, but I can't do it because of the university. Let me make some calls for you." He got that kid a scholarship at Duquesne because he urged Duquesne's coaches to recruit him.

Rupp gets called a racist while people look past Wooden and Sam Gilbert's flagrant cheating. That's the way it goes.

yes well Wooden did manage to get the best players from all over the country!now how, that's another question!

TEN Championships led by Cael & Company. I think the double-digit number has finally woke some people up. It's like all of a sudden there is a pretty good team at Penn State. When PSU stood at "X" (where x = any number from 1 to 9), National Championships the idea of reaching 15 to tie the awesome run of the Dan Gable days at Iowa seemed so far out in the future. But, now, we have TEN. Such a big difference in perception. Like my 2011 National Championship t-shirt said: "It has begun . . . " So prophetic.

Sam Gilbert was why UCLA suddenly went from good, as they were in Wooden's first 15 or so years, to breathtaking.

He was, to quote a 1981 LA times article, a "one-man clearinghouse who has enabled players and their families to receive goods and services usually at big discounts and sometimes at no cost.”
