Was wondering if anyone had any details as to the the official wrestle-off dates and challengers for PSU. I'm assuming there will be multiple wrestle-off dates being that a weigh class such as 174 is in theory up for grabs (Skakur, Morelli, and possibly McCutcheon).

Also, if anyone could point me in the right direction for details on other top ranked teams' (tOSU, Ok State, Iowa, etc) wrestle-offs, I thank you in advance.

Unless I am confused, PSU doesn't have "official wrestle off" dates. There is competition in the room, the coaches may decide on a wreslteoff at a certain weight (rumor has it that Cutch and Nickal are going soon at 184), but they also look at season dual and tourney results (including head to head sometimes in tourneys) and in very close calls might wreslteoff immediately before BIGs.

Cutch and Nevels are going at 184? Huh?

correct. there is no official wrestle-off date. as situations warrant, there may be additional wrestle-offs during the season. plus, it's not a cut-and-dried you win, you wrestle in the next dual. it can be multiple wrestle-offs, it can be coach's decision, etc.

PSU does not publicize the wrestle-offs. The above is an overview of the situation.

Man i want to see Bo at 174 bad,,,,That is MAJOR bonus points and great shot at a NC....He can win it at 184 but the bonus points will be limited.....Hope he goes at 174....

I love the Cael model. If kids are comfortable moving up then do it. Especially when there are top level options in the weight vacated.

So Bo (and DaddyBo) against the world? Sounds like an over-weight of drama. It's an interesting post JD but there are still too many wrestlers (Matt, Bo, Shakeer, Stout, possibly Cassar, etc) in 3 weight classes for everyone to see the mat. I get that Matt is a fan favorite and all of this could either work out poorly (or not) for him, but these are the challenges all of these guys have signed up for at this level. Many of these kids will have a growth spurt at this age. Having seen the team in action last year and at Nationals, I think they all get it's an individual pursuit inside of a team sport and they'll figure out what's generally best for them and the team. Bo looked like a leader to my amateur eye last year.

That's rather interesting input from JD. 184 is absolutely loaded and just placing top 3 is going to be a real challenge; at 174 Bo is clear preseason #1. As the saying goes, careful what you wish for because you just might get it.

That being said, it is possible that this could work out better for the team. I know a lot of people feel McCutch can AA, possibly high, at 184, however going off results, not sold on that perspective and it would't surprised me to see round of 12 again, or low AA at best. If Bo can make the finals again, Rasheed has the ability to do well in what appears to be a pretty open weight class, this could result in net gain of points.

Interesting enough that he deleted it.

Maybe someone who was at the Friday event can comment on how divided the team was. It didn't seem that way in the pictures.

Also no Rodriguez or Tavanello.
Who is Rodriguez going to wrestle at 125#, he's the only wrestler at that weight class. I would've loved to see Rodriguez vs Pletcher. I'm sure Rodriguez isn't weighing 125#, so why not have that match.

Somebody very talented was going to be on the bench if Bo stayed at 174. Somebody very talented will be on the bench now that Bo has moved to 184. It sounds like Cael wanted both guys to have a backup plan. Bo obviously believes he doesn't need a backup plan. I doubt the team is divided. I'm sure most of the guys feel bad for whomever is not in the lineup, but this is D1 wrestling on the the best team in the country. You eat what you kill at this level. I thought Bo looked very skinny last year and I'm guessing the added weight will be easy for him. 184 is stacked, but it isn't stacked with guys at Bo's level imo. I will be stunned if he isn't top five, and mildly surprised if he isn't top three. I also believe the Cutch/Rasheed winner will be a 4-6 place guy at 174. I don't see how the team suffers in this unless you are simply determined that Cutch gets an automatic spot and Rasheed should have to earn his spot. If neither guy at 174 proves to be capable (highly unlikely) there is a fairly solid kid redshirting who could compete ok.

Why not have him face one of the 133 backups? It's not like this is really wrestleoffs -- whoever wins the 133 and 285 matches will not start.

I have no idea how Bo and Cutch match up in the room (although my money would be on Bo). Bo certing at 174 would be a hedge against losing the wrestle-off at 184. Bo doesn't strike me as the type who entertains the possibility of losing.

Do you think Bo is going to get as many bonus points at nationals at 184 as he would have at 174? or wins for that matter? I hope I am wrong!!!!

Why? Don't you want to know? He is telling us what is going on.

A divided team? Don't you think that's being a touch judgmental at this point? How's he know the team is divided? It's a bit extreme on Oct 14th, come on. Maybe he did a survey to arrive at his 90/10 result

Bo could have at least certified at 174, just in case there was an injury or something unexpected happened down the road.

Guys like Spyker and John Doe have given us some valuable information in the past. They are also entitled to their opinion. You don't have to accept it.

... As the saying goes, careful what you wish for because you just might get it...
Divisive allegation about team divisiveness, how ironic ...
I can't help noticing the irony that we want information from insiders, but when we get it (especially if accompanied by an insider's opinion), we sometimes wish we did not get it. To be honest, I do not actually want inside information, anymore. I'd rather Cael run a tight ship with shipmates that help him run a tight ship. To mix metaphors, I would not like to be on a team with untrustworthy loose lipped people that air team laundry.

I actually believe he will increase his bonus points. Bo looked tired in the 3/rd period at 174 which is not unusual when a tough cut is constantly required. I would expect a fresher Bo in the last minute which should make those 4-6 point wins 8-9 point wins. Time will tell. Q,DT,Ruth,Zain, etc. have moved up with strong results. I believe Bo is in this talent vein and will do quite well.
