WRESTLING IS BACK 1/8 GDT

Who is the announcer “Ray” for this Rutgers/Michigan match??

Way behind on my recording, but first time I’ve heard Joe Grello called “elite”.

grello stalling like crazy late - adjusted his knee pad about 40 times

The season has officially begun with our first, Brought his hips to the party", from Gibbons. Now it's time for someone to put his nose over his toes.

Who does Jamenz got in this dual? Great to have wrestling back. Height mismatch at 133. Dryden for MN Over 6 feet tall at 133? Good wrestling though. He uses his leverage very well

OMG! that broadcast team were the biggest Rutgers homers I have ever heard. If they said Vanbrill was doing a great job one more time I was going to poke my eyes out with a sharp knife! Rutgers got their ass kicked correct? My god you would not have known that from the broadcast idiots!!

And a familiar “he’s got the chin” flashback to the Bo vs. Martin match. Nice stroll down memory lane. “That’s who we are “

Last year he had a 73% bonus rate, lowest scoring matches were 7-5 vs. Cass and 8-6 vs. Parris.

Well, though that data would seem to disprove my point, there sure were a lot of matches I saw last year during which he didn’t appear to be putting forth maximum effort. Last night he came out on fire and kept up the pace the entire match. Or maybe I’m just spoiled by watching our guys!

Note ICYMI: during Van Brills match, they posted in the ticker under the score: Van Brill participated in 2 Big Ten Championships.

That is pure comedy.

That's like saying Jason Nolf's right knee participated in 1 Big Ten Championship.

Hey, look, @jammenz' team won.

If anybody is interested, found the Ohio State wrestle-offs looking for any wrestling matches that were on today:

Heinselman and Decatour won first two weights. 165 is not being wrestled today for whatever reason where Karchla seems to be the guy.

Some scuttlebutt that Tan Tom may re-work 65-84. If he's not convinced about Jordan at 184, then Romero would go up, and then either Karchla or Smith would backfill 174.

I wondered about Ethan Smith possibly going to 184 as that seemed to me like his best chance just talent wise but I know that could be quite a jump considering he was 165 just two years ago.

Hoffman just beat Singletary in OT, 4-2.

Orndorff beat Traub, 2-0 (escape and 1:56 riding time).

D'Emilio beat Echemendia 5-4 (or maybe 6-4 with RT?) and was in on a shot at the end.

D'Emilio beat Echemendia 6-4. Big takedown and probably 2 minutes of riding time in the first. This seems like a low-hanging fruit comment but Echemendia had nothing to offer on bottom and took neutral in third. Echemendia seemed to have better of the action on the feet in the last two periods but just couldn't finish at the edge. Think D'Emilio ended with about 1:20ish of riding time. His other two points were escapes (choice and after Echemendia takedown).

Edit to say 6-4. Completely forgot about Echemendia had two TDs.

At 197 G. Hoffman defeats Singletary 4-2 in overtime At 285 Orndorff takes out Gas Tank Gary 2-1 on riding time. You know those matches where there was lots of action and not a lot of scoring. These were the opposite. D'Emilio defeats Echemendia 6-4. 1st period TD by D'Emilio and 2:00 of riding time. 2nd period....escape by D'Emilio.....TD by Ech. Quick escape.....4-2. Ech. takes neutral to start the 3rd. Quick TD by Ech......Quick escape. Add riding time.....6-4 final.

In the interview after Ryan said 141, 197, and 285 are still the hotly contested weights. That is his starting lineup right now but this will not be the only factor and guys who lost need to pick themselves up and that this is not the end. Held back on camera but seemed to be really upset about Singletary. I forget that exact quote but said he needed to take intelligent risks. If you only take one shot all match, the most you can score is two points (his two points were both escapes as he did not convert the takedown).

I think Tom was also upset about Echemendia's loss and was hedging both weights. I'm happy for Gavin though he had a really tough year last year.

Also FWIW I believe Gas Tank Gary beat Singletary in 2018-19 wrestle-offs at HWT and Singletary ended up starting anyways. Only reason Traub started last year is Singletary got hurt.

You are probably right. I have now seen Echemendia wrestle for a total of 7 minutes so I am no expert on his body of work but bottom was a problem today. I don't even remember him attempting to come to his feet off bottom. He did reach back and grab ankles once to try and create a scramble. I was surprised neither of them were hit for stalling in the first period. It is one of this situations that if it was the third period I think they would have (just one of the inconsistencies of stalling in my mind that is a pet peeve of mine that the situation should not matter).

I would also like to see Echemendia against a non-teammate. It seemed like D'Emilio had a much better plan, especially in the first period but Echemendia just couldn't recover from basically a 3-0 deficit after the first even though he looked better in the final two periods.

Ya Echemendia also looks really short even at 141. He was giving up several inches in both his matches today. Plus he doesn't look nearly as jacked when he actually has to make weight.
