WRESTLING IS BACK 1/8 GDT

Two matches that stood out and surprised me last night:

1: Dylan Ragusin (UM) over Nicolas Aguilar (RU)

2: Andrew Sparks (MN) over Peyton Robb (Neb)

Especially Ragusin with the quick fall.

Bonus - - 6 foot 133 pound Boo Dryden upper body manhandling Greco Champion Alex Thomsen the way he did in the first two periods.

The award for never give up, never surrender this weekend goes to Gardner-Webb. Being shutout going into HWT, 41-0, they lost 3-2 in UTB during the last match. Coaches then proceeded to lose a team point to lose 44 to -1.

Some scuttlebutt that Tan Tom may re-work 65-84. If he's not convinced about Jordan at 184, then Romero would go up, and then either Karchla or Smith would backfill 174.

Rumors on the mat that Karchla is done for the year with an ACL. If true and Ethan Smith can get back to 165 I would assume that is his spot. They also have a Jashan Hubbard who was just 3-0 last year but one of his wins was 5-2 over Cam Amine.

Oh, nooo! Gotdang, that sucks. He was the buckeye I was most looking forward to seeing!

Watched the Illinois Indiana match this morning. I know the season just started, but Indiana really needs to work on their conditioning and their effort. They did not impress on either of those facets.

This made me think. I wonder what we see Saturday. This would be the time of year that we would normally see the team compete after a week of intense condition oriented training and of course the appropriate responding posts of "oh my God, they looked so out of shape."
Obviously, the staff has developed a process to peak at the right time. This year is a different animal. Watching them put together their plan will be almost as much fun as watching live wrestling.
