Wrestling: Keystone Classic

Would of had 9 but Berge medical forfeited

Very dominate performance.

PSU 2nd stringers probably could finish in the top 10 in the nation.

Wrestling -- No.1 Penn State Wins Keystone Classic in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.; November 18, 2018
– No. 1 Penn State (1-0 0-0 B1G) won the 2018 Keystone Classic, rolling up a lofty 192.0 points and crowning eight champions. This marks the third straight year that Penn State has claimed the crown, wrestled in the University of Pennsylvania's historic Palestra.

A total of 18 Nittany Lion wrestlers competed at the event. At a weight where the Lions had more than one athlete competing, the top point scorer at that weight had his points tallied into the team score. The entire Penn State contingent tasted success at the event, with every Nittany Lion collecting at least one victory and 14 of the 18 Penn Staters competing placing.

Penn State crowned eight champions at the event. All-in-all, Penn State had 14 place winners: eight champions, one runner-up, one third, one fourth, one fifth and two sixths. Penn State posted a gaudy 60-16 overall record, including 10 majors, 11 technical falls and 21 pins.

Penn State is dominant in wrestling. Ohio State and Iowa are trying to catch up, but Coach Cael has shown that dominating recruiting and world class development are how to deliver 8 national titles in 10 years.

He's doing this with 9.9 scholarships....

And with no foreign kids - not an issue to date in wresting, but rampant in NCAA mens soccer

This is a wrestling thread. If you have issues with foreign kids playing on American university college teams, by all means feel free to create a thread on the subject instead of coming up with a way-out-of-left-field response the way you did here.

Yeah. It really underscores how well Cael develops talent. For the most part, the foreign players who play NCAA soccer are far more developed due to the club structure in the rest of the world. Cael is dominating a level playing field. It’s an interesting comparison.

didnt see anything on this site, PSU dominated and crowned 8 champs. Apologies if already posted
The downside of having so many talented wrestlers is that it can be tough to get out of the room as you may be wrestling against the best in the country at your weight even if you're really good yourself. At 285, PSU's Anthony Cassar, who wrestled at 197 and did well last year before getting beaten out by Shakur Rasheed (who went on to place 7th), beat PSU's Nick Nevills 7-2. Nevills came back for 3rd. Nevills was 7th at 285 in the NCAA tourney last year and ranked #2 nationally coming into the year. He did have shoulder surgery in the off-season, but he handled the other wrestlers pretty easily, so I'm not sure it affected enough to explain any of the outcome. It sounds like Cassar's a beast. Things could change, but there's a good chance an All-American last year won't even make the tournament this year.
