A note of interest; the Maryland wrestler at 141, Ryan Diehl, had 2 PIAA state championships for Trinity Catholic, including a win over Jason Nolf. Nolf was 176-1 in High School.

Is Jeff Byers the wrestling announcer on gopsusports? I love the way he calls falls. He gets a lot of practice.

Which Trinity? Camp Hill or Washington PA? I'm assuming Wash PA.
Thanks.

EDIT: NEVER ASSUME, BOB! COME ON!
It is Camp Hill Trinity, West Shore side of Harrisburg area.

Didn't see the match yet but if Jimmy dominated Ryan Diehl like that, Jimmy is wrestling at a level we have not seen from him before. Diehl is a stud. Wow.

And Diehl is unranked?

Thanks @JonZ for taking the time to keep everyone up to speed on the play by play for Penn State wrestling matches. It is much appreciated!

Hopefully Penn State can win both the dual meet and the ncaa tournament national championships this year.

Jon, thanks much for these postings. Very much enjoyed and appreciated.

Why was the pinfall awarded to Rappo when scrambling against Law at 133? It didn't appear that Rappo was in control, and wasn't even awarded a take down. Alternatively, JG had Diehl in control when Diehls back was on the mat while he was working to escape. Diehl never seemed to pause on the mat, but it seemed that Laws pin wan called immediately when it touched. I'm not complaining so much as I am trying to understand the difference. For the record, I don't thing JG pinned Diehl, but I don't think Law was pinned either.

You don't have to be in control to pin a guy. If you force your opponent's shoulders to the mat, even when your opponent (or neither of you) has control, then you have pinned him.

Another question/observation from the MD match. After Nolf pinned his guy and the referee held up his hand in victory, the ref said something to Nolf with his hand over his mouth. I've seen referees act in a manner that indicates that they were congratulating the wrestler. In this case, I couldn't tell. I'm sure that the crowd noise and the ref's hand over his mouth made it impossible for anyone other than Nolf to hear, but was wondering whether there would have been anything other than congratulations being said by the ref... was Nolf being scolded for some potentially dangerous moves? I don't remember a particularly noteworthy example. Did the ref know him personally, and was asking about his family? I guess nobody else may care, but I just found it interesting that the ref would say something that he wouldn't want anyone to be able to lip read.
