Thought on the weekend (random order):
- Venue was good. Too bad about the ‘outage’ during the semi’s. Funny how everyone immediately jumps on Flo. My reserved VIP tickets were good but not better than the front row GA tickets where you could see all the mats easier. Shame that every local HS or college coach didn’t have their ‘teams’ there watching. Some of the best wrestling in the world and you could easily get a seat.
- Surprised MyMar wasn’t in the finals. We know he has the talent
- Greco was cool to watch since local kid Peyton Walsh took 3rd and won two matches against Porter in the closing seconds with 4 and 5 point throws
- Provisor is big man. Manville is getting better and appears to be working/trying hard to do so.
- Colton Schultz – changing of the guard. HS senior?
- Too bad RBY got nicked up. Believe it was during the scramble that no one scored on. He seemed to look at the bench and point to his knee. Wanted to see him get revenge in the best of 3.
- Nolf, Zain, and Morelli sat down next to me (I just happened to be sitting there). Must be a pain always having people come up and talk when you’re trying to watch matches. Nolf did say losing weight sucks.
- Nolf looked like he got bigger overnight simply by switching weights. Same thing with his ankle getting nicked up. Strange how it happened. You can see him not pushing off of it very well. Tough, tough kid. He will be a force to reckon with next year since he will get some international experience this year.
- Zain was outstanding. Final X will be fun. Any ‘weird’ calls should be ignored as nothing makes up for the match deciding correct throw for 0.
- I wanted to see Mueller vs Gillman even though Rodrigues got him in the consi’s. Which by the way, he looks really good since the PanAm games.
- Hidlay blew it against Ashnault. Controlled the entire match until… That would have been a fun match up with Green. His little brother looked great winning Juniors!
- How did Faust make 125?
- Interesting how early scores dictate a match. Nico with his mistake against Graf, Hall getting behind Zahid. Still think Mark can beat him and I give him 50/50 next match. Anyone question why ringer is top5 in the world.
- Good seeing Geno and seeing LeFever flip the results against Moore.
- Bo should have lost at the US Open so he could have wrestled more than the finals!
- Great to see Aaron Brooks live. What a Phenom!
- Brayton Lee is very solid but was shocked that Sasso gassed at the end of 1. Not sure what was up there.
- First time at a venue with top level women wrestling. Was impressed by the ladies demeanor and interactions as well as their skill.
- Gable was unreal. Hope he can change a little attitude… got chippy with Bradley based on dumb actions on his part…
- True 2nd matchups were an interesting twist
In summary, glad I went and ‘visited’ my daughter. One rule twist my son brought up that I liked was with consecutive turn situations. For example, leg wraps- the first turn is worth 2 and subsequent turns with the same hold are only worth one. Just don’t like the dominance factor of getting to ankles and ending the match. Everyone wanted to see Green wrestle (I’m sure he is happy with the results!).
