I know this sounds crazy, but I think Hack can have the best game of his career and beat the Buckeyes IN THIER OWN STADIUM. Our Defense is strong enough to slow their Offense down and allow Hack to throw a game winning last second TD! We should have beat them last year, and WILL this year!

I would ridicule this, but then I remember last year when in fact we did win.

Good luck! I have no doubt Coach Franklin will have his kids ready to play, night game, our fans will have all day to prepare, environment will be electric and we'll get your best shot.....should be a good one. I'm looking forward to it!

Would love to believe that and think we have about a 20% chance of pulling it off, but it would definitely be a shocker. We'll see if the refs even are willing to permit an even playing field. One thing is for sure, there will be a number of people watching to see if the fix is in again and perhaps the media might even be keyed in on it.

6-0 vs 6-0 in prime time. I'll be watching from Mexico that weekend.

Anything is possible. With good officiating, we beat them last year. Thats why the games are played on the field. I give us a 40% chance!!!

Well, read it here first actually, but why be picky. If it happens, I will give you credit, if I remember, which is unlikely. OK, what's this thread about again?

umm.. Whatever the OP is having, can I have that on the rocks? Anndd can I buy a round for the house while we are at it? y'all are welcome!

What are the odds that the string of blatantly bad calls that always go Ohio State's way will not only end, that maybe PSU will be aided by a blatantly bad call?

I wouldn't say it's crazy, but it's not likely. We're in a different era now, so it's hard to say what we should expect to see on the field out of PSU football. Near the end of the Paterno era (I'd say late 90s - end) we had a pretty good idea of what to expect....beat the teams you should beat, win some games against equally matched teams and always lose to teams that were better. I can't remember too many big upsets in the later years of the JP era (OSU in '05 seems like the only one). As we distance ourselves from that era, I think we're going to see more of a mix.....some big upsets, but also some unexpected losses. How many people expected us to get blown out by NW last year? How many expected us to blowout Iowa on the road in 2012 or win at Wisconsin at the end of the year? Now, I wouldn't call those big upsets, but I'd certainly label them unexpected. Once JF has a chance to get a few more recruiting classes in here to build depth/talent then we may get more of a polished and consistent product on the field.

I love your enthusiasm! But yes, that does sound crazy. :)
(And I hope you can come back here and say you told me so after the big win).

I maintain my position, we WILL WIN THIS YEAR! Yes, we will be even better in a few years. but no need to wait. Our team is ready to play their hearts out again, especially since this is likely Hack's last year.

I don't know why we wouldn't: we beat them last year.

Home vs road will be the difference, I think. Lest we forget that *two* years ago, it was 14-63.

If either of the Buckeyes fans (or any others) are still watching... I assume you want us to be 6-0 coming into that game? I know I hope you are. Most likely MSU will have a loss on their record when you get them from Oregon.

It really doesn't matter to me. I expect it to be a good game, and I expect us to win. That's all.

Of course it matters. If PSU is 4-2 with losses to Temple and Rutgers going into a night game at Columbus...that is a nightmare for your SOS and also for the TV ratings/viewership. With how close things are in the new playoff format, how can you possibly not wish for the best out of each team you play this year, other than on the day you actually play them?

It only really matters if tOSU loses a game early in the season. Our SOS is good enough that, if we end up undefeated B1G champions and defending CFP champions, we'll be in the playoff. The only thing that would hurt the TV ratings is if PSU is totally sucking in the early season, and I don't expect that. Most CFB fans know that OSU/PSU is going to be a good game, regardless of everything else, and will tune in.

Now, if OSU was still trying to climb the mountain, and did not go into the season at #1, I might be inclined to agree with you. Our circumstances this year, however, are a little different.

Can you pin this thread so I can get a good laugh on 10/18? Thanks. :)

You weren't laughing last year! Keep in mind that was the worst OL at PSU in more then a decade....This will be a much improved OL this year and our D will be even better then last..

I agree that it is OSU's "title to lose." But, you just never know when it's left in the hand's of pollers and such. I'd err on the side of caution and wish for good luck for my opponents in the case another VaTech comes along and rains on the parade. Then, SOS could certainly play a huge factor in getting you in like last year. You just never know. 1 loss and saying you beat a 7-5 Penn State team isn't as good as 1 loss and a 10-2 Penn State team. Same goes for any opponent you face this season.

No, that was a tight game last year. And it could be a tight game again this year. It could also be a blowout. You just never know with these two teams.

When OSU won the BCS championship back in 2002, I had tickets to the OSU/PSU game in Columbus that year. It was a crazy game, pretty much everyone was on their feet the entire game, and the 'Shoe was literally vibrating. The final score was 13-7. In 2014, it was a 2OT game.

As far as the teams this year are concerned, I know that PSU is on the way back up. At the same time, if OSU is playing anywhere near the level they reached at the end of last year, you guys will have a hard time keeping up. Plus, you'll be in our house this year.

I wish I could have gotten some tickets to this game. I had it circled on the calendar, and tried to buy some, but you can't find group tickets for under $250. There are some single seats with poor visibility, and they're $150+.

I agree that an OSU loss to another team changes what I said about the SOS, etc. At that point, everything is in play.

I will be pulling hard for PSU to be 6-0 heading into the game in Columbus. Number 1, It's in our interest in terms of national perception and tv share, and the crowd will be much more into it making a better environment for all not the least of which will be gathering of recruits that comes to all home games, but a much bigger deal for night games in an electric environment and, Number 2, I'm a PSU fan 364 days a year.

Go Nits!

You and kybuckeye2 are good posters. This is how football games (emphasis on the word games) should be discussed without all the venom. Will look forward to more from you guys. Have a good day.

Beating them in Columbus will be a very tall order....

Penn State is 2-1 in Columbus the last 4 games. Wins in 2008 and 2011, loss in 2013, and 2010 was vacated.
And no, I didn't "read it here first" - I said it a couple of weeks ago on another thread. I said that I predicted that the officials would finally be fair for one of these games. (No evidence to support that - I guess I just feel that we're "due".) I got ridiculed pretty badly for it. (To be fair, I've ridiculed people for worse, so I don't mind.) But like someone else pointed out, we win 17-7 last year with fair referees. Maybe 24-7. (Who knows how that first drive would have ended, if the replay boot was working properly?) And in the thread about Ohio State wearing black jerseys that night, I said that I hoped their pants were black, too, because of all the sh!t stains in their pants by halftime.

Thanks, Nits74. I appreciate the compliment.

Full disclosure: I did my undergrad at Washington and Jefferson College, in Washington, PA. Played football there for 2 years, and met my future wife there. Her family lives an hour or so from the PSU campus, in the Altoona area. So, I have a lot of back-and-forth with my in-laws when it comes to football.

One year I took my wife to an OSU/PSU game in the 'Shoe. It rained the whole game, and she got to sit in the rain and watch her Nits get a pretty good thumping that day. And when my daughter was exploring her college options, we took a trip to the PSU campus. We took a picture with the lion statue, and I threw up the obligatory "O" as a protest. After all these years, my wife has slowly come to her senses, and now has an OSU plate on her vehicle, and enjoyed herself tremendously at the B1G championship game last year.

Good luck to you guys this year. See you on October 17th.

I have a brother who played football for W&J a loooong time ago. Not sure which years but they had a string of 5 seasons where they won a TOTAL of 3 games; he was QB for 3 of those years. He told me that is when he learned to smoke and drink.

That was probably a couple years before I got there. John Luckhardt took over as head coach in 1982 and they began improving quickly. By my freshman year in 1984, we won the conference and made the DIII playoffs for the first time in school history. They've been a powerhouse program pretty much since then.
