After years of terrorizing them, Sheriff Obvious says he's 'a little weak' with 'the Hispanics'

Unless it happens to be an indie Chicano rock group, it’s probably not a good thing whenever someone talks about how much they like “the Hispanics.” We’ve heard it enough from the white supremacist in chief, and, god help us all, now we have to hear from it from one of the guys he pardoned.
"I'm a little weak with the Hispanic community," former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio told the Arizona Republic. The racist and convicted criminal recently announced that he’s running to recapture the seat he lost to Democratic Sheriff Paul Penzone in 2016, and said he wants to win over the same Latinos he terrorized when he was in office, saying, “I have a soft spot for the Hispanics.” When asked how he’ll try to win them over, he replied, “I don’t know. I may want a nice Mexican dinner. You think I’m gonna go to Taco Bell? I’m gonna go where the good Mexican restaurants are.”
Like there’s not enough bullshit in the world to deal with already, now we have to deal with Joe freakin’ Arpaio saying he hopes to use tacos to win over brown voters so he can go back to racially profiling them as sheriff? It’s trolling, it’s attention-seeking, but at the same time, don’t forget that, in 2016, Arpaio still got over half a million votes to Penzone’s 665,478 votes, even after calling his own tent city a “concentration camp.” As with Trump, people voted for that shit because they like that shit.
Arpaio is now set to face four challengers in the Republican primary. Maybe he won’t make it past that, after he was defeated in the 2018 Republican primary to replace Sen. Jeff Flake, winning 76,000 votes. If he does make it, by some miracle, we just have to make sure he faces the same defeat he saw in 2016. Times are changing: Democratic Sen. Kyrsten Sinema won the county in 2018, and the Latino vote is growing. “Arpaio will never be sheriff again,” wrote Arizona Republic columnist Elvia Diaz. “Not on our watch. And not with our vote.” Amen.
