It may be because I have only been watching CFB for 50+ years, that I have become confused. So can someone please explain to me why we called a time-out with 1:01 on the clock in the first half, after a sack, brought up 4th down, Michigan had ZERO time-outs, to get the punt team into position? Here's my thinking, and you guys can say I am being irrational, but who GIVES A SHIT IF THE CLOCK KEEPS RUNNING! We could have punted the football with less than 20 seconds on the clock! As it played out, Michigan got the ball on the 25 with :54 seconds left. Please tell me that a player inadvertently called the TO. Do not tell me that this came from the coaching staff....because if it did, that to me is very telling. Oh, and the other TO used in the first half was to get the punt team organized as well. It's only our 9th game, not that this should have been taken of by now....

This team is very weak on fundamentals. That is 100 percent coaching. It is surprising and it does need fixed. I find it amazing that a team like bama is so fundamentally sound with so many young players. Yes they are good but they are young and yet disciplined. You did see saban coaching the entire game.

Franklin might have worried that the punts would be blocked.

Ok...lets explore that theory. The TO was called as soon as the 3rd down sack over. The ball had yet to be marked ready for play, which would have been 4th down. So, if you are worried about getting a punt blocked and you want to make sure you have the correct punt team on the field, why not let the play clock run down to ONE SECOND and then burn the TO? Even if UM blocks the punt the would only have had 15 seconds to do something with it.

Even if that's the case, you don't have to call the timeout until the play clock runs down. Didn't PSU call the second one - the sack before the half - almost as soon as the play ended?
BINGO>>>>The TO was called before the ball was marked ready for play on a 4th down. Sorry, this is seriously telling to me. No way someone can be that bad at clock management at this level. Even if CJF is horrible, he has to have someone in the booth helping him out.

The first timeout was the worst. It’s 4th and a mile in your own territory just 2+ minutes into the game. The play clock running out isn’t going to mean anything in the scheme of the play - Gillikin can get that yardage back with a good boot. But yet, let’s waste what could be a valuable timeout to save us those 5 yards.

It’s almost like it’s everyone’s first day some weeks.

If your are in a panic, you don't analyze every tick of the clock.
Somehow I don't think it's good for leaders and decision makers to panic when it's time to make decisions. That could just be me though. I sure hope he didn't panic. Because he took the timeout right away, I have a feeling that his thinking on this was - and we've seen it in the past with CJF - that there was still time for PSU to somehow score, even though possibilities were limited and the probability was low.

One of the strangest TO decisions I have ever seen. Perhaps they were thinking of going for it but it was fourth and 17 from midfield
