Is he selecting the good guys?
We have to survive official visits to Alabama and Ole Mi$$.
Is he selecting the good guys?
Conliffe might be facing the same thing at BamaAnthony McFarland named a final three:
Alabama
UMD
U of Miami
Read that the Alabama offer may not be commitable. Most are pointing to Miami.
Hope so.Conliffe might be facing the same thing at Bama
That's interesting, and good. I wonder if it was a suggestion from someone outside of the Clairton staff.BTW not sure how many caught this tweet last month:
Wade played a little bit of linebacker at the beginning of the season, too. He's as versatile a recruit as we would have had in quite a while. I know it's a bad word around here, but his versatility is Peppers-esque.
Nah. He's a ball hawk. I think he would terrorize QBs if could could roam the field. He also has crazy coverage skills, but man the way he breaks on the ballI don't see it that way. He's a CB all the way, with the possibility of returning kicks as well. I guess he could play Safety, but we have bigger CB's on the roster that are likely better suited to move to Safety if the team needs them.
Peppers is much larger framed and thus has played some LB, but his NFL position is likely Safety..
If you wanted to put the traditional tags of SS and FS on them:Move Allen to SS and maybe Wade to Free?
I thought Malik did?If you wanted to put the traditional tags of SS and FS on them:
Marcus Allen has always played the more typical "SS" role within the PSU defense.

Ah yes, the Kansas alignment.Yep, if he was the 12th defender and could just roam the field.
Well, that is sobering.
$obering for sure...especially OLE MI$$
People can tag them whatever they want.......I thought Malik did?
People can tag them whatever they want.......
But:
If the traditional "SS" is a guy who plays closer to the box (more often), has run game responsibilities (more often), generally has his pass coverage responsibilities skewed towards the center of the field, rarely is responsible for man coverage on a slot or flanker or split end, is the last guy (from the group of CBs, FS, SS) to be placed in coverage responsibilities - and the first (from the group of CBs, FS, SS) to have specific
"in the box" run responsibilities, and is more likely to have specific assignments against option based run offenses............
Then Allen was the "SS".
I have no idea what anyone might want to call them - including the PSU D staff - but that is the role Allen played (and Golden, just the opposite)
Bobby Campbell -- give me the ball: I'll scoreAh yes, the Kansas alignment.
Great post BTW.. Exactly my logic and the text book definiton of SS vs. FS. Our old Regime deemed the SS the Hero position but that defense was a different scheme altogether... Wade is a cover corner think Antoine Winfield.People can tag them whatever they want.......

an update and some background info on his all-around athletic ability
Still not sure how we fit both him and Webb in.
Everybody says that these are must-takes, that you always make room for, no matter what. I don't know how you make spaces open up magically unless you process.
Think it's PSU vs WVUThis is no the type of move that we typically see from a guy committing to Penn State. An announcement party open to all with a COVER charge? This seems like SEC to me. I assume Tennessee is still in play?
I did also until I read that tweet. I know think it's Tenn, then.............WVU, then............? Love to get him but we've got a great class with the few scholarships that were available so I'll not be that bothered if he goes elsewhere. JMO.Think it's PSU vs WVU

I can't read the Coach's minds (neither can anyone else).......but my gut feel has ALWAYS been that I don't think the staff was ever "all in" wrt Swift being an extremely high-value-added recruiting target

I view Swift as Miles Sanders+ due to his excellent pass receiving skills. And Swift has excelled for four years against a very high level of competition. Having said that (reminded myself of the Curb Your Enthusiasm episode about that phrase), I don't think Swift is a must get this cycle and a similar back, Ricky Slade, is looking real good for PSU in '18.I can't read the Coach's minds (neither can anyone else).......but my gut feel has ALWAYS been that I don't think the staff was ever "all in" wrt Swift being an extremely high-value-added recruiting target
If he says "Hey, I want to come to PSU"....and there is room......maybe they take him
Of course, you "recruit" all the top kids in your region (unless you find that some kid is just a complete azzhole)........because you never know what could happen in the two/three years while the kid is going through the recruiting process .........but I doubt there will be any sleep lost if the kid ends up a Bulldog
