2018 Recruiting Thread

https://247sports.com/Article/Colle...t-Tuesdays-Army-Bowl-mega-practice--113105160

1. Micah Parsons, DE/LB – The Penn State signee would be the alpha dog had he competed in the intersquad portion of the practice. He made the most of his one-hour session against his East teammates, though. In fact, Parsons had the most impressive play of the day with a sack on Phil Jurkovec that caused a fumble which he recovered. It was the second sack fumble/recovery that Parsons created on the day. He was unreal as an edge rusher with bend and he may not even start at that position in State College. He may play inside linebacker first.

Why would anyone believe what Mike Farrell has to say about recruits, he has shown time and time again that he cannot judge who is great and who is so-so

There are really only two people who know anything about Penn State recruiting: Sean Fitz and Greg Pickel. Everyone else is just guessing.

Was Parsons playing LB at The Opening? Recall he made a nice impression there with an athletic INT and return.

So, it's not just PSU has a good amount of numbers at these AA games, the players attached to PSU are dominating and doing very well. Shorter = freak. Slade tore it up today. Oweh is a high priorty target has been on some top 5 lists. Mustipher is really showing well as is Parsons who we all know is just a FREAK. Think about how early JF identified and offered most of the guys committed.....they really do a great job there.

Yes, I believe Parsons played linebacker at The Opening, at least during the 7 on 7 portion which included the interception that you recall. He really bounced around at a couple different positions during the summer circuit, though - he did some of the 1on1 OL/DL drills, and some of the pass coverage stuff at linebacker during 7 on 7s. He even played a little corner.

Ricky Slade dominant during All-American one-on-one competition
Future Penn State running back Ricky Slade put on a show Tuesday at Under Armour All-America practice.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- For the first time during Under Armour All-America Game week, the running back and linebacker prospects got to participate in live one-on-one passing reps. Tuesday's effort was up and down for the group, but there wasn't much debate as to who the top performer was.

It was Ricky Slade.

Very impressive.

“Justin Shorter is as good a high school wide receiver that I’ve ever seen, on film and in person,” James Franklin said Dec. 20 after the Garden State product signed with Penn State.

Nittany Lions receivers coach Josh Gattis explained the staff recognized his talent early, and that helped pay off as Shorter spent more time committed to Penn State than any other member of the class.

“I remember seeing his tape as a sophomore and I felt at that time he was the best receiver in the country, regardless of any recruiting rankings,” Gattis said. “I’m excited. Obviously, everyone sees the talent level that he has. He’s a phenomenal player. You know, God only blesses so many guys at his size with the speed and ball skills that he has. … I really believe he’s going to be able to blossom here at Penn State in the future.”

Considered the No. 15 overall prospect in the 247Sports composite rankings for 2017, Shorter will arrive on campus in June surrounded by immense expectations.

Though Shorter said he appreciates the accolades, he is quick to point out other Penn State newcomers who will help increase competition at receiver. Along with Anderson-Butts and 4-star Maryland prospect Daniel George, the Nittany Lions landed scintillating in-state standout Jahan Dotson via a commitment flip from UCLA during the early signing period.

Shorter long had expressed admiration for Dotson, and he spoke about the possibility of them playing together dating back to his junior year. That partnership appeared unlikely as Dotson spent the 2017 season pledged to UCLA, but it’s now an impending reality.

“I think once we both get up there, if we can both play, it will be good to have me go deep and knowing he can work off any route and get open,” Shorter said.

He is also targeting another blue-chip 2018 receiver in Solomon Enis. Another 6-4 talent, the 4 star Enis is a Nittany Lions legacy and roomed with Shorter during The Opening.

Fitz, yes.
Replace Pickel with Snyder.
Pickel, no....he gets his information from Fitz, Snyder, and others.

The receiving talent of this class is just mesmerizing. 5 Star Shorter, 4 Star George, 4 Star Dotson, 3 Star Butts (may play safety), and potentially 4 Star Enis? Then two very high end 4 Star TEs on top of this? Add in a great receiving threat out of the backfield in 5 Star Slade? How do you attempt to cover this?

Shorter and Slade are absolutely tearing up the UA practices and they are just the tip of the spear. This offense will slice through any D in a few years. 40 points per game average was so 2017.

Trace better pad those career stat records this year Bc the Big Red Dog (my impromptu nick name for Clifford) is coming for them with all this talent.

Skill players will be in place. Just have to keep recruiting great OL prospects so that the OL can match up against the top DL's. Obviously why CJF mentioned DE and OT on 12/20.....

I totally agree. Greg Pickel is not in the same league as Fitz when it comes to PSU recruiting. I listen to Keystone Podcast and Greg is always non-committal of where he thinks a recruit will go. I find it annoying. And then you have Sean Fitz who places places Crystal Balls and gives good reasons why he thinks someone will commit or not and he is usually spot on.

Greg knows a lot, but for some reason he's always light on the predictions.

1 for 2 there. Fitz and Snyder IMO.

I don't think Greg is doing much of the calling, texting and keeping track of individual recruits anymore.

Thanks, Judge. Shorter's wingspan is ridiculous.

Would a push off been called there?
Either way, I know we now have a receiver that will not have any problem getting off of bump & run coverage.
There is a difference between bump and run and hold and run....yes the push off was a flag, but there probably could have been one on the line.
