2018 Recruiting Thread

1. WR Justin Shorter: The Penn State signee was very much in discussion for ‘Alpha Dog’ honors after an impressive one-handed touchdown catch during red zone work and long catch where he went over top of the cornerback. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound speedster is a physically imposing receiver that certainly can bust the top off a defense, but Monday he did an excellent jump showing his quarterbacks a big target for intermediate completions.

Oweh made Top 5 on defense

5. DE Jayson Oweh: The Blairstown (N.J.) Blair Academy product took over a portion of the scrimmage on Monday. Oweh, a 6-foot-5, 235-pounder known for his pass rushing ability, did an excellent job stuffing run after run. New to football, Oweh is another with plenty of upside moving forward.

Man, do I wish Mustipher was enrolling early. I saw a quote that said he's at around 285 pounds right now to make weight for wrestling. If he was getting here in January, I'd think he could easily be at around 300 pounds of good weight (he doesn't look like he has bad weight now at 6'5", 285) by summer camp.

Either way, it feels like it's been a while since we've had an incoming DT get this kind of praise on the camp/all star circuit.

Mike Farrell said that Jayson Oweh reminds him of Shane Simmons.Jayson is faster, taller, and he has much longer arms.Mike is an astute judge of talent.

Maybe his style of play reminds him of Simmons. The man has been watching Oweh in person for a couple days, I’d say there are worse people to be compared to than Simmons.

What about the video? Is that his twin or a similar build? Don't know, but call me a skeptic here. Maybe it is true and that sucks if that is the case. You would think his brother would be able to validate this claim too.

No idea - just passing this on.

Something didn't sit right with me when this all came out regarding Young. Kid has been in the limelight for years and never had anything negative come out about him and then, boom, an armed robbery. Seemed so out of character especially given the amount of vetting PSU does of it's recruits. Who knows though? There are always exceptions like Dorian Hardy. Whether or not Young gets to come to PSU I hope he is innocent and gets to play somewhere.

Ohio State shill Bill Kurelic put in a CB for Oweh to Penn State today.

The last thing I would want is for PSU to turn their back on him if he was not involved.
He admitted to doing it. So now the get away driver left the hoodie at IY's house and the video was wrong. I mean I know things are jacked up sometimes, but this is a pretty big reach.

Now there are rumors the charges might be dropped. Getting interesting. Wonder if Young would want back in or if he'd hold a grudge for being dropped? Very unusual situation to say the least.

The police claimed, at one point, that Young confessed. That's not enough for me to believe, to be honest.

And even so, I'm not sure if you can conceivably keep the charges and expect to get a conviction against Young if you have at least one other person willing to testify that they did it and that Young had nothing to do with it other than letting him borrow Young's sweatshirt.

The video with the confession is pretty telling IMO. It's a nice gesture by a friend knowing Young has a shot to do more IMO.

Wiltfong

The most consistent offensive tackle on the day was Rasheed Walker, who checks in at No. 6 in the 247Sports Composite at his position. He pancaked Adam Anderson during one 1-on-1 rep and had the feet and length to matchup with those quicker defensive ends. Has a great frame to pack on more. This looks like an Ohio State-Penn State battle down the stretch with the Buckeyes still having an official visit in play this month leading up to Signing Day.

Doubt he'd hold a grudge, who the hell would stick with him or could? PR disaster. Its not like PSU dropped him for some minor reason and other schools were lined up for him.

I don't think we could risk taking Young. If it wasnt him then it really sucks, but feels more like someone taking the fall than actual false accusation. Which is fine for him, but I think as a program you need to do risk reward analysis on this and ultimately move on.

Wiltfong still has Walker pegged for tOSU and mainly due to them getting the last visit I think. He'll get all the attention there with only a couple of spots left so I understand Wiltfong feeling that way. Hopefully Walker is solid to PSU and has a Smith type of moment of visit when he goes there.

It doesn't seem right and Basic Blues is the one "running with the story" on Twitter, so that tells you all you need to know there.

-They post a very poorly written "sorry for the inconvenience" post on social media. Not really the place you make your confession.
-Young confessed to the robbery
-Video looks pretty damn close to Young's facial features and build
-If it wasn't Isheem, wouldn't his brother (Asst. manager at the Wawa) speak up a long time ago?

To me it sounds like a friend is trying to take the downfall of Isheem's mistake, and wasn't thought out very well. Was very weird from the start, as Isheem's girlfriend was posting from his Instagram account trying to collect money for his bail. Wouldn't be surprised if Isheem is not the one posting from his Twitter now.

Hope I am wrong for Isheem's future and he can get back on track.

If true, wouldn't want a guy that would let his friend take a fall like that regardless. Terrible character.

So this friend admits to a felony robbery and says he will confess on the stand but the police don’t charge him, allow him to have his freedom, and will just detain him when he confesses on the stand? Doesn’t make sense.

I started my L/E career in Dauphin County Prison and while there I saw all kinds of people detained on flimsy charges and even a few witnesses housed there to ensure they would show up to testify. The fact this “admitted felon” is walking around just waiting to testify doesn't pass the sniff test for me.
