2018 Recruiting Thread

Its great we offered to let him play offense when he gets to Penn State, he said it "helps the chances of him actually coming" to penn state.

We can really use a very athletic big body like Micah for short yardage situations. Guessing they will have other plans for him too. Perhaps in an H-Back role?

He sounds like the most uncommitted commitment Penn State has had since the Michigan duo last year.

You can say that again. On one of the other sites it mentioned that he went to an OSU basketball game, at Maryland.

Ah well. His recruitment will not end until the ink is dry on the paper.

For those suggesting I pulled the qoute out of thin air, here you go, in today's pennlive site about him:

It was after Parsons showcased both attributes against Governor Mifflin on Nov. 18 that he said Penn State offered him to also play offense for the Nittany Lions. Parsons said his heart is still on defense, but getting the offer to play both ways was “the icing on the cake” and added that the offer “made a better chance of me going there now.”

Nothing better than having a commit that wears his OSU gloves during his high school playoffs. I am so happy to hear that we have made a better chance of him coming here by offering him the opportunity to play offense. Maybe if Franklin offers him his office we'll even have a better and "morer" chance of him committing with us.

If he can help on both sides of the ball, what's the down side?

I think you are missing the point dmd. We are all acutely aware of his talent and that he could help us at any number of positions. The problem lies in the very uncommitted nature of his commitment i.e. wearing OSU gloves to games, visiting basketball games of other schools, visiting schools, talking about all the "love" he shown by other schools, and multiple quotes like the one above that do not elicit much confidence he actually signs with us come next year.

The downside would come if it's not our ball, I suppose.

I'm taking deep breaths on this one, but there's only so much you can rationalize, if he's wearing tOSU gloves during his football game when PSU coaches are freezing on the sideline to be there for him, or spending free time traveling to watch the tOSU basketball team, if true. At some point in time we just look stupid.

Exactly Lurker. I will certainty get called out for this because apparently recruits parent's come on our board, but I would have a very tough time engaging in the dog and pony show this kid is warming up to play if I were on the staff. I think(or hope) we will soon be at a point where we can tell kids you are either Penn State or you're not, we are not interested in playing games for the next year and a half. It has been pretty apparent in a few occasions that certain kids were using a penn state offer to get a better one. I actually believe Penn State does not do that to kids in return like an alabama or a michigan that will pull a scholarship a week before signing day. Id like to think we ask for the same respect in return.

I suppose I wonder what kind of teammates some of these kids will turn out to be, if they are so disrespectful of the process.

I have no issue with kids playing the field during recruitment, particularly if they are true studs. They've earned it. But, do it before you commit. Or, don't commit until you've had your fun and you are ready to settle down.

Ah, that's the old fart in me talking, I guess. I expect too much from some of these guys.

I think some of you are wringing your hands far more than the PSU staff regarding Parsons. He wanted to commit as a frosh, waited until he was a soph. Since then he's been having fun from with the attention he's receiving. A lot can transpire between now and Feb. of 2018. I think you can trust that James and his guys have their eyes squarely on the target.

Why don't you let the PSU coaching staff handle this?

They are in the game, so I'm sure they are used to this kind of stuff. There's probably stuff that goes on behind the scenes that we don't even know about, for better or worse. But I'm sure the staff does have it all figured out.

I don't see anywhere in that article where Parsons said that us allowing him to play both ways gives us a "morer" chance of signing him. I'm really not sure what the point is to make it appear as though the young man has poor grammar.

As for Parsons, he's been committed here for months now, and has scholarship offers from every school in the country. He's going to play out his recruitment until the very end to determine which school best suits his talent, as he should. He'd be selling himself short if he didn't give due concern to every school that recruits him. But for now, we're the school he feels best suits his talent - and I hope in February 2018 that's still true. But to keep him, we're going to need to consistently show him that we're the best fit for him, and if we sit around for the next 14 months and expect to still have him, we're going to lose him. He's the potential #1 player in the country less than two hours down the road - he's as close to a must-get (or must-keep) recruit as Franklin has ever had, and I don't think Franklin cares what color his gloves are if he ends up signing on the dotted line.

Ha, okay. The grammar shot was unnecessary, I'll admit. But I strongly disagree with the rest of your argument here. I am ALL for him using the next year to gauge his interest with every single potential suitor. He should not sell himself short. You know what else he should not do? Commit to his home-state football program then. I also think we are recruiting at a level now in which he is not either a "must get" or a "must keep," especially if his attitude is not aligned with the locker-room(not saying it is or isn't). And his glove color does not matter, nice strawman, I am more concerned about his gloves having the Block "O" and bucknut on them as our coaches are there to show support for the kid...nice try.

My apologies, guys. Not sure how I missed that. Even did a keyword search. Maybe they were editing the story... looks like they removed the word "actually."

Nope, I did misquote, there was no "actually." It doesnt change the context too much however...."it made a better chance of me going there now" I actually think my original misinterpretation was kinder.

I think, was it not, that coach Franklin said: "he makes it CLEAR to kids" what exactly the word "Commitment" is?

It was WIMBUSH who originally broke that vow thanks to his mama and his HS Coach.

Gonna find out just what he asked for this coming Autumn...

Let it play out, please.

This feud is boring. This is a recruiting thread.
I beg your pardon, Judge. My post concerned fake recruiting news about a 2018 prized recruit, similar to what appears to have been a false tweet about another 2018 prized recruit. The difference being the Humphries baseless false recruiting news originated here, at this site, begun by the person I mentioned. No more.:)

Is there any sense among those who know things that Slade is close to committing?

He's visiting for a bowl practice, allegedly. We'll see what happens. He originally was going to decide in the spring. Now, or 5 months from now. As long as we get him.
